List has been updated!

Penguins hold the line as the champs, with owls, macaws, and my beloved ducks staying strong. But the grey crowned crane stays the king with the highest individual votes.

Without further ado - weekly community poll - I could be wrong, but I'm bracing for a news drought for the next few weeks as the hype REALLY builds up again in late summer. So let's return to the one that started it all! What are your top 5 birds you NEED to return from Planet Zoo 1, and why?
  1. Sussex Chicken - I am very odd and the chicken is my favorite animal in the game. I'm also very firm that domestics are necessity and the base game should include the petting zoo feature at launch. Let's not neglect children's zoo till the twelfth hour like last time.

  2. North Island Brown Kiwi - the one "oddball" bird of PZ1 that's just too darn cute to neglect!

  3. King Penguin - I don't want to jinx it, but penguins are one of the returnees I'd be basically guarantee will be at a launch and our Antarctican royalty is my personal fave of the 3. But ofc we all want all of those 3 tuxedo cladded stinkers!

  4. Indian Peafowl - It's Pride Month and their exclusion should earn Frontier a lawsuit.

  5. Common Ostrich - An icon and staple of all zoos. Literally too big to fail.
What about YOU???
My top absolute 5 i want to see back:

1. Greater rhea: an essential animal for South America (important for Pantanal, Pampas and Patagonia) that took wait to long to get in the first game and that i had major problems with the model. I want the updated version. It has to be in base game please.

2. Indian peafowl: with flight now being a thing and how great the new animals look now i can't wait to see the new peafowl. Plus it opens the door to more pheasants. But yeah essential bird for any zoo.

3. Southern cassowary: the coolest of the ratites i honestly don't expect it in base game and i thinks is a candidate to come in dlc with an upgrades look but they are so cool and were very popular in the first game so i want them back.

4. Mute swan: unique among the other birds from PZ1 in being our only anatidae. We didn't got ducks but we got the elegant swan. Is great for filling our zoo lakes, though i admit i would like to get more exotic species like the black swan or black necked swan.

5. North Island Brown Kiwi: i really hope they bring these back. They are so cute and fun and with the new lightning system we could now make true indoor nocturnal habitats for them.

I trust we will get the ostrich, at least 1 flamingo and one penguin (most likely african) in base game. I'm also pretty confident about the emu coming back in base game. The ones i listed (minus the peafowl) i fear we might not see them back so i choose them.

List has been updated!

Not much has changed with a slower PZ week (besides the reveal of that hungry, hungry hippo). Ducks, Owls, penguins, macaws, and cranes continue to make-up the top 5 with a handsome lead.

So! Weekly community poll - with the release of Planet Zoo 2, which potential bird-based habitat are you most excited to build???

With the toucan, I'm very excited to re-create the Amazon (hopefully with some parrots at launch). But I REALLY have my feathers crossed for both the North American forest - wild turkeys, owls, wood ducks (oh please, oh please), bald eagles, etc. AND the Florida Everglades - more ducks, spoonbills, ibis, sneak in some flamingoes.

How about YOU???

Andean cloud forest walk-through aviary to pair up with Spectacled Bear habitat in dedicated section.

It's gonna rely heavily on multiple inclusions of small and not so popular birds (Motmots, Trogons, Coccs, Mountain Toucans...) so I'm not holding my breath, but even one or two of those would be a compromise.

The second we get our first vulture, there will not be a single zoo I build that doesn't include an aviary just for them, lol. Using aviaries to augment different themed areas will be fun as well

FORGET SLOW WEEK! Make way for our first returnee of The Feathered Fourteen!!!

List has been updated!

Some housekeeping - with last week's inclusion of the African Penguin, you are welcomed to swap your votes out for another bird, if you did indeed originally vote for tuxedo boy, just quote your original post along with a new bird. I know I did with this goofball:

helmeted-guineafowl-3.png

Ironically, despite the King of the Africa Pack's inclusion, penguins STILL remain in the top 5, everyone just loves 'em!

But now, weekly community poll - obviously, the hype and anticipation of PZ2 is still very fresh and high. Recently, Frontier showcased the absolutely beautiful Toco toucan aviary and the bird in action. The animation alone is probing to be well worth the wait.
BUT the devs did admit flighted birds are by far the hardest animals to construct in the new game. So it raises the question - weekly community poll - how many birds do you think we'll be seeing at launch at PZ2?

This is a purely speculative question, but considering the lack of reveals compared to aquatics (more than 2 to 1, aquatic to aviary), I'm guessing it'll be a smaller but mighty roster - maybe like 10 to 12 new birds? At least fully flighted ones. But I'm hopeful a hearty number of reprises, the African penguins proves DLC birds are being welcomed back.

What about you??

Whoa so I can actually change my list accordingly if I do end up getting the birds I wish for? I have been avoiding making a list like a sucker thinking that I won’t be able to change the list at all. Guess I was (thankfully) wrong.

  1. Greater Rhea
  2. Emu (I should NOT be asking for these two but unfortunately I don’t feel like they are guaranteed…)
  3. White Stork
  4. Marabou
  5. Great White Pelican
  6. Dalmatian Pelican
  7. African Sacred Ibis
  8. Scarlet Ibis
  9. African Spoonbill
  10. Roseate Spoonbill
  11. Black-faced Spoonbill
  12. Shoebill (thank you frontier, I will replace replace my request for the shoebill with the red-legged seriema)
  13. Hamerkop
  14. Common Crane
  15. Grey Crowned Crane
  16. White-naped Crane
  17. Helmeted Guinea Fowl
  18. Golden Pheasant
  19. Edward’s Pheasant
  20. Western Capercaillie
  21. Wild Turkey
  22. Wood Duck
  23. Mallard

Oh noes it still doesn’t feel enough ;-;

An underwhelming amount. Call me a Negative Nancy (which I won’t deny being so) but I am trying to tamper my expectations to avoid disappointment in immeasurable levels. Also let’s just look at JWE2 started out with very few flyers and how JWE3 only had one new flyer. I am definitely keeping my expectations low…

I'm guessing somewhere around 10 fully flighted birds at launch, I would be quite surprised to see any fewer. I guess frontier could be saving some of the bird reveals for later and that's why we have so few confirmed for now, so we could end up with more than that.

Thank god(s) for the coexistence of aviary & habitat birds!

Late to the party, but a coastal aviary! Something like humboldt penguin (or african as a stand in) together with inca terns! Or a wadden sea one, thats something i already did in pz1, but there are ofcourse limits to the fyling bird mods.

I think it will be quite a few less than the aquatics, id say around 15 maybe. Which would be a decent number to start out with provided they do a nice mixure.
