Standard shipping is £4. Don't listen to the mugs who rushed through the checkout and missed the select shipping option.

When I went through the only option in the drop down was Express Shipping. Oh well, hopefully that means I get it on the 5th April.

I think mugs is a little strong. the very 1st page sayd estimated shipping 57.x quid.

its a very easy mistake to make!. no point rubbing salt in for those who already bit - indeed hopefully some of those people can retrospectively change postage if they choose

also, not everyone is getting offered the cheap postage, i dunno why!

Grrr! I started filling in the order right away. Then at the completion of the order it says "Sorry out of stock"
I go back to the cart and it says in stock ... I check my paypal activity and no charges so I place order again. This time order is placed but delivery is in May instead of April.
Noooo
;-)
So price wise for Australians?, Turns out the 899us they pre announced did include GST. As the purchase price is actually 817us + 110 for shipping to Aus(as expensive as oculus for the shipping)
Add GST to the 817 and its a tad under 899us
Gawd in aussie dollers this is one pricey device. I hope my enthusiasm can overcome VR sickness hehe

I saw the HTC tweet telling people to refresh if they get the out of stock message. (I think I got my order through while people were wondering why they were still seeing the coundown clock showing zero)

HTC is smoking something. WAY overpriced compared to the rift. Good luck selling many of those. Especially considering the additional cost to upgrade your PC to support it.

How is it overpriced? It has everything you need in the package. I'm quite sure when Oculus releases their Touch controllers (With another camera), you'll see those prices are looking real similar. You either want part of the experience, or the whole experience available at purchase. Oculus or Vive. Whatever your flavor.

Don't worry Skaldy, I didn't take offence. When I've paid the lions share of a grand on a headset, I want it as soon as I can. If I had the option, I'd be knocking on HTC's front door asking for my headset lol.

indeed, infact i would not be surprised if the rift costs a tiny bit more IF you want the full package.

It was too expensive for me, but that is only because i can do without touch for now and i prefer the ergonomics of the rift. For what you get in the box, it is largely comparable price wise to the rift imo.

indeed truth be told, for those who got the £5 postage, I dare say it is LESS than i expected.

Maybe it's for the best. I kinda prefer the ergonomics of the Rift's touch controllers anyway.

the funny thing is, I would be perfect for the vive demographic I have a large custom built extension as a games room with plenty of room to move about if i organised it correctly. Full room VR could work for me.

but I am just not bothered.

on the other hand my mate barely has room to swing a cat, and yet he would only be interested in the vive due to the full room tracking, and is disinterested in the rift..

To each their own :)

I'm really curious how the room tracking is going to work out. I don't have space for it, without walking into furniture, but I'm keen to try it.

The issue I can see with that is that if it's really good, increasing your room size isn't something you can usually do very easily, so that'll limit the market for games which use the full 15x15 ft space.

I have an Omni on order (maybe they'll ship it this century), and I think that's likely a better solution for most applications - you're going to be way way into uncanny valley anyway when you walk to a door with the Vive on which doesn't physically exist, so the actual physical movement maybe isn't that important.

Looking forward to trying it though.

cant wait to hear your thoughts on that one. not sure i would use it much, but as something to try out, the omni looks cool.

Hmm the 960€ made it for me. I think i would have spend 900€ if this came incl. shipping, but 61€ shipping made it for me.
For 900€ they could have send it free including all VAT, but it seems they want to save some tax later so they send it from Ireland.

Na might wait now, made the same mistake with the Shield TV, bought it for 199€ at release and a little later they sold it for 169€ inlc. the additonal expensive remote control.

I really want this thingy but i dont see me spending almost 1000€ for such a device to play Elite Dangerous with it.

If anybody is looking to purchase funature (especially coffee tables), I expect there will be quite a few good deals appearing on ebay in April.

I pre-ordered the Vive today. I almost got the Rift, but to be honest I was a bit disappointed that they chose to "shove" things down our throat that we won't really need anyway (Xbox 1 controller, most of us have that already... Plus, those that are serious about VR will end up buying the Oculus Touch controllers anyway). As for the included games, well, that depends on whether you care or not to have it (personally, I don't).

Let's not forget the Oculus' included headphones... Another option I believe should've been made optional. Why would I want to use whatever the Oculus brings when most of the serious gamers out there most likely have a much better pair of headphones? I wouldn't switch out my studio headphones that I use for gaming for any other heaphones, although mine would be pretty hard to replace.

Point being, I was unhappy that they decided to include these things and thus drive the cost up. For $600 USD, plus taxes/shipping, you end up getting the Rift, and a couple of things that you might or might not use.

Personally, I believe Oculus could've offered these things as an optional package, giving you the option to just buy the Rift (and thus, drive the price down).

When those that have the Rift buy the touch controllers later, plus a possible additional camera (for enhanced tracking?), the price will be similar, if not slightly higher than the Vive.

I'd rather pay the Vive's price and get the complete package of things that I actually intend to use, rather than get some unnecessary additions "just because".

Also, while the Rift seems to have a decent lineup of games (while the Vive doesn't), there isn't a single game developer that has an interest in the Oculus (as in, they don't own or had anything to do with it's development, I know there are developers interested in developing for the Oculus).

Vive on the other hand, is backed by Valve, a game publisher we all know and the owners of the Steam platform. At the very least, I expect Valve to push for Vive support for future games coming on Steam. Additionally, there is Google which, in my opinion, is a much more tech-savvy company than Facebook, not to mention much more powerful financially.

Lastly... HBO and Lionshead studios are backing the Vive. Let's just say I would loooove to see a VR version of Game of Thrones, and some movies :p

And I very much like the feature set of the Vive over the Oculus.

The Vive is bundling (inferior) games too.

This is a deal maker for me - I hate having to put on the headset, put on headphones, take off headphones, take off headset - so much better to be able to simply put on and take off headset - my cans are going to be sidelined for the more than adequate Oculus headphones. HTC should have made attachable headphones an option IMHO.

Same with the Vive - I'll never need two sensors as I am not interested in the walking around stuff. How dare HTC assume I need them both! ;)

And again.

And I much prefer the Oculus feature set over the Vive, including the fact it is lighter and, reportedly, more comfortable.

Just providing balance, you came across a bit preachy there mate! ;)

Because it's a pain in the neck having to take off a separate set of cans each time you take the Rift off. Also with the straps, depending on your head size, they fit over the ears as the most comfortable position (to balance the weight), so having headphones embedded in the Rift itself solves the problem of something else to put on/take off once you have the rift on, and also the problem of positioning the headphones with respect to the straps. Also, it's yet another cable, unless you go wireless (which is what I ended up doing).

Do you have a DK1 or 2? Separate headphones are a pain tbh - the built in ones will be ergonically better, and that's probably more of a win than sound quality for most consumers.

Well I bought two Vives. I got an order number but no confirmation of the order. So as there is no decent number to contact HTC on, I cancelled the first order on my debit card and ordered again on Paypal. Their customer services numbers are useless on the site as they go right to technical and they know nothing about the ordering process and most probably not have access to the systems that customer services has. It doesn't really matter as they will get the cancellation long before the shipping comes around. Paypal have taken the money. It wasn't a great experience for a customer though. The strange thing is, is that I got both order confirmation emails at the same time.
