The Voyage Chromatic! (sequel to The Search for Color): Revisiting beige worlds for comparison...

Planets are now beautiful but at what cost? I cant help not thinking how long it took them to even admit that the beigefication happened on their side. The community had to push SO hard for them to take act and after how long? Like a year? Its really disgusting and thats the nicest word i can think of about it.
Why the players had to wait and open so many threads and so many videos, why?

Have you checked out the home planet of the engineer Lei Cheung? That is one of the most striking changes I have seen, and the colors are pretty cool. Especially the sulphur yellow areas.

It took 490 days, from Update 2.2 on October 25th of 2016 until 3.0 went live, for Frontier to fix the beigification. Not that I was counting or anything.

Does anyone else not think this looks pretty.... bad?

I mean, there's next to no definition there, it's all washed out.

Terrain detail with regards to mesh complexity is reduced today from what it was pre 2.2, and I doubt it's ever going to be restored to what it used to be. Textures are better though and this compensates somewhat on planets with good texture detail, but on the planets with the lower complexity textures the lack of mesh detail does stand out from what we used to have. This is especially noticeable on ice planets, where a lot of them today look like smooth slightly melted ice cream. Hopefully the Q4 updates to ice planets and terrain details improves this, we'll have to wait and see until the end of the year to find out.

Because this stuff takes time to develop. They didn't just flick on a "make planets look good" switch.

Some of the other pictures look awesome.

Mostly my game never seems to look quite as good. It's probably my monitor though.

Well, that peak in the distance is over 5km tall, so it is pretty far away. Also, I noticed that the file was compressed to jpg when I uploaded from my phone, so that has a lot to do with it.

Sure. But they did admit it, and now they've fixed it. Why are you complaining?

I understand the sentiment. The Engineers had three balance passes and betas in the time it took to fix the bug which caused the planets to all turn shades of the same color. Exploration as a rule has been a lower priority than most everything else in the game for four years, for fans of exploration that neglect has worn heavy and turned to pessimism over time. I've not been immune to feeling it either despite how happy I am today that it is finally fixed.

Back on topic though, I found these twins today orbiting each other, two HMC's which looked almost identical:

Because i dont like it when i am treated like an idiot, or an animal with short memory. But i will explain a little further, since you seem to not being able to understand simple concepts.

My "complaint" is that for even a so serious matter, like the the beigefication, which pretty much hits directly a huge part of playerbase "explorers", they didnt have the intention to even check the planet surfaces to see if something was indeed wrong, and even if they did, no act was intended anytime soon, if it wasnt for the playerbase that was allmost "screaming" about that so important matter.
I believe that things like that shouldnt even make it pass their quality check department (lol if they had any) or the beta!

Got it now?

Yes, I understand why you're upset now. Also,

i dont like it when i am treated like an idiot

No, I just thought it was a bit funny that you explained that you don't like being treated like an idiot, and then very blatantly treated somebody else like an idiot in the very next sentence.

But i didnt treated you like an idiot if thats what you are thinking. I did explained further to you didnt i?
I suggest that you go back and read my very first post that you quoted, and read it again. Its all there from the beginning. You are the one who pretended to be an idiot and opened this small pointless discussion between us two.

Dude, just frakking great thread. It is amazing how we managed to last so long with the old planets. I'm currently working on see how the various types of volcanisms effects the color changes compared to worlds that don't have volcanism. I'm hoping they can tie material % with the varying colors on planets but what they have accomplished so far is outstanding and I can't wait for more.
