Newcomer / Intro The whole Planet disappeared

I was over at Moore Works in Rish, Rish A 7, then when I went to go back later, its not on the map at all. It still shows all the info in inara and that it was updated recently. Are my game files broken or is this a server side interaction? Anyone else see Rish A 7?

So luckily I had bookedmarked it and I see if I click on the bookmark it shows empty and unexplored where the planet should be with no graphics of a planet or anything whatsoever

I think this can happen when you have the exploration data of the system and you die with it, you basically loose data of the system in that way and it disappears from the system map. Try to do discovery scan and FSS again.

Re-scan the Nav Beacon, or FSS the system. Then be sure to sell your cartographic data so you don't lose it when you die.

no-no
Scanning the Nav Beacon is not the same as FSS-ing the entire system

They DO need to FSS the system, else the next thread from the OP will be that now they're missing Settlements or Planetary Ports

If you FSS / Explore a system but then you die before selling the data to Universal Cartographics - you lose all the unsold exploration data and you do need to revisit and re-explore those systems

You're saying that scanning the nav beacon does not reveal settlements and planetary ports? Since when did this happen?

Scanning the nav beacon is not the same with FSS-ing the system - your planets will still show as unexplored after you scan the nav beacon.
Unless it was changed since U14

Maybe you need to get out more. (In your spaceship that is. ;) )

You see the planet names in the NAV but you "discover" them by flying within 30ls or FSSing.

Yes, you fss the bodies in a system or you fly to 30ls from each body to "discover" the system. Btw, you should try Trappist-1 if you didnt already - it's quite fabulous to pop in the system for the fist time and "discover"all bodies without fss-ing the system

However, scanning the Nav Beacon does not have the same effect as fss-ing the system

Nobody said it was, you are the one that said "your planets will still show as unexplored after you scan the nav beacon" which I said is not the case. e.g. just now:

And the system map becomes fully populated too:

interesting - seems i was misremembering.

so, the nav beacon scan will reveal the entire system, but only for this session - next visit in a future session, the system will be "unexplored" again...

Nope - I checked that to make sure - flew back to ACKYCHA and checked the Nav panel and the System map - all populated.

The only difference you actually have is that there is no explo data to sell unless you "discover" bodies by FSS or by travelling within the passive detection range.

Yea, i did some tests myself - and there more than "no explo data to sell" (admittedly not much more, but still :))

Scanning only the nav beacon will indeed reveal the entire system and the system will remain like that even after a logoff / logon (not tested the scenario where i die - cba to eat a rebuy for this)
However the system will not be marked as explored (FSS will not show 100% - and this was what i remember as "not explored") and the bodies will lack information regarding material composition, gravity, temperatures and maybe some other info (*) until you FSS the system or you flyby within 30ls to "Autodiscover" the respective body

*(basically the panels Description and Planetary Information will have less data if you didnt fss or flyby the body)

Every time I honk a new (to me)system that has a nav beacon, the FSS automatically shows everything discovered. I still have to scan the beacon to get my nav panel and system map updated though. This means I don't get any Human/Geological/Biological signal sources without re-zooming every planet in the FSS. That's easy in small systems, but it's just too tedious in larger systems.

I thought this was just normal ED bugginess, but I'm not so sure now....

No, that is how the game has always worked. The Nav beacon gives you details of the system but not details of the bodies' composition, so no info of what raw elements or of any bio and geo features.

Legacy is just the same (I double-checked that this arvo).

You don't get told of any res sites either - I had not realised that until today in Legacy Horizons.
