More swarms of crazy pirates in anarchy and feudal systems!? yes please :)

I'm personally not a big fan of the heavy USS use as it currently stands. USS for destroyed ships, abandoned ghost ships, smuggler gatherings, pirates hiding in asteroid fields etc is fine. But I'd like to see more activity at SC level particularly the bulk of the assassination type role which is why I was very pleased to see this post from Sandro Sammarco

...having ships you're looking for in super cruise as well as at signal sources, making super cruise traffic and behaviour more supportive of system state

Will cooperative exploration arrive in the "wings" update?

I was reading the newsletter email about 1.2, and I am excited for this update. My friend and I play this game, and we both feel that the cooperative element needs some expansion. Personally, I like exploration more than trading or combat, and I was curious if this update will mean a "wing" of ships can simultaneously explore a system, sharing their scanned data as they go. For example, one ship can scan the main star and its surrounding planets, while a second ship can immediately cruise towards a secondary star 200,000 Ls away, which would save both players time in completing the system.

The newsletter seemed focused on data sharing in a combat sense (knowing what your allied ship shield status is, sharing bounties, etc.), but I didn't see exploration explicitly stated in the e-mail, and was hoping someone could clarify whether that support will arrive in 1.2.

I'll hurry up to get my flying Conda fortress back, just in case. If I have to lonewolf against wings, it better be with 8 guns. Though of course noone can stop the buildup of full Conda wings. I fear lonewolfing will be quite hazardous in PvE and entirely impossible in PvP once 1.2 goes live. I'll study the beta forum very carefully during the test, if it's public as it was in 1.1 beta.

It would give me so much pleasure to destroy this NPC Wing in Wings

How will Wings affect solo players?

In the latest newsletter, it mentions that NPCs will form up into Wings now as well, and it might not be uncommon to see multiple Wings flying around together. So what will this mean for the solo players? Is it even feasible for solo players to remain solo players?

I think trading and exploring should be relatively unaffected unless a wing of players can interdict someone and attack them at the same time, that could be bad. Certain combat missions may be more difficult for a solo player but perhaps the game will take that into account.

I like the reavers idea. Elite needs a group of NPCs like that. Mindless psychos who attack anyone who comes into their system. Maybe they could also attempt to take over a civilized system. This could be a new type of community event.

Meh, I think you're over worried. I've played other space mmo. It's the same. I personally like facing the odds as solo. It forces you to get better at the game and is usally a fun experience.

It also tempts you to interact with other players. Form your own wing with other like minded line wolf players. And that can be really fun.

I'm absolutely sure this is gonna be a really good thing.

Lol. You maybe see a little bit of a contradiction there? :D

I play solo (or lone wolf if you want to call it that) because I have zero interest in forming a wing with anyone. I suppose I'll just have to see what 1.2 is really like, but I'm not really convinced it's going to be beneficial for those of us who play solo for reasons other than avoiding PC pirates. If it forces us into some sort of unwanted interaction with people in order to simply play the game I'm out.

FD is quoted as saying they will always take long wolf players into account

Well. Sort of. What it actually says is -

"Lone wolves will have to be able take on those dangerous encounters at great risk, and deliver those massive amounts of cargo using multiple trips..."

Which is really just saying "lone wolves will have to Deal With It".

Tonight I spent an hour ing around trying to find a new home system. I can't really see three random players wanting to join up as I move about between systems checking what's for sale. So I expect the net result of wings is that it becomes more difficult to be a solo trader, or solo anything else.

Of course, if you could hire NPC wings that wouldn't be an issue.

To call this an MMO is completely wrong, 32 players in an instance is not Massive by any means. Not to mention lone wolf or solo players don't normally like grouping up with other players, it's kinda why they call themselves lone wolf or solo players. If solo players have no chance to do much of anything if everyone, NPCs included, are now running around in groups of 4, and some with multiple groups of 4, then the solo player is immediately outclassed and outgunned. And forcing them to form their own wings is completely contradictory to those of us wishing to play solo.

That's pretty much what I took from it as well. As a solo player, I have to be honest, I've no great faith solo players are going to get anything in terms of content from this point on. I increasingly feel we are not really wanted.

In other MMO's you don't stand to lose as much money per death as this one...
