The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

The entire crafting system is, sadly, very shallow and not at all up to par with the rest of the game.
This also apply to the inventory system as a whole, clearly designed for controllers/consoles, as most of the UI, menus and more.

The few things that have annoyed me in TW3, and to be honest, it all is still very functional.

This was a feature of Two Worlds, which I think was really a good under rated game...

I enjoyed Two Worlds very much, and it was the game that hooked my wife on computer gaming.

The only things I didn't like were the central "quest", which was very thin and contrived (you hardly ever saw his sister after the initial cut-scene) and also the game ending which was so low-key that you missed it if you blinked. Other than that it was a great game with good graphics and an excellent crafting & magic system. Witcher 3 reminds me of it a lot, but is better in most ways.

Is it different or improved a lot from the first two? How comparable is it? I ask since I played a bit of 1 and 2 but could never bring myself to complete them. Just wondered if 3 brings some new stuff to the table beyond just purdy graphics. (Not trying to slam it - I like purdy graphics. Just curious). :)

It is a much better game. The definitive version. Massive open environments. Just ride into novigrad and have a look around, you will be amazed. I love how they capture a sense of realism of a mediaeval world. Get it on CD keys for a much better price.

Nice one mate!

You could add the Nvidia tweaks guide too cuz that contains alot of good tweaks, such as TextureMipBias. All with comparison pics.
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gu...-tweaking-guide#the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-physx

They're included in my user.config file modification, which is part of the guide ;)

I strived for best visual quality to performance ratio and I think I nailed it pretty good. I get occasional stuttering every now and then, but that's not game breaker for me. I have also found out about a clever config tool and I'm going to revisit the config file modifications squeeze more out of it :)

Watch this space!

One thing I strongly recommend is using the Cutscene Lighting mod by KNG. It reduces the cartoony look and almost completely remove Geralts self illuminated hair. The only downside with the mod is that it increase fog.
But if we could use the installation scripts to actually tweak specific weather parameters then we're on right track. :)

I checked it out, but I prefer ReShade and E3FX preset to be honest, as it adds much more than a lighting change. (Better AA, better sharpening, better bloom etc. :) )

I updated my modding guide today :)

24/06/2015
* Added new user.settings file. Over 6 hours of testing resulted in much better performance without a visible hit to quality. Stuttering fixed. Disappearing grass fixed. Enabled missing DLCs.
* Added rendering.ini file settings.

The game not only looks much better now, but it also runs very smoothly! Really happy with the progress. Main culprits here were the foliage and grass drawing distance records. Both were reduced slightly, which fixed stuttering, disappearing grass and improved performance greatly without much of a hit to the visual quality.

Next steps: test some mods that I have recently discovered and test couple of other ReShade presets that looked promising on Nexus. Happy days!

REDKit for TW2 took almost 2 years to be released.
CDPR told the press it will be alot faster this time for REDKit 2.

But this...

...doesn't sound promising at all. :(

Well...even if it took them 1 year to get it done after The Witcher 3 was released then it would still be "a lot faster" than RedKit 1. ;)

Yeah, but by that time most of the community will be modding the hell out of Fallout 4 :/

W3 has an awesome potential to be Skyrim's spiritual modding successor, unfortunately RK2 would have to be released in the next 2-3 months for that to happen...

Also, I'm wondering a little about modding TW3... How much modding will there actually be?
I mean the biggest goal (generally speaking) modders have today is to make TW3 look like the famous, now infamous, VGX trailer.
When, and if someone's done that, will there be any interest left to mod it? A few textures here and there. But Geralt will always be Geralt.

Like Rootsrat says, FO4 will probably replace Skyrim as the number one modding game for gamers.
I'm even hoping Boris will cave in and start making ENB for FO4. That will boost it even more.

Don't really see it that way. The Witcher is fantasy, Fallout 4 is post-apocalyptic sci fi. Some modders really like doing fantasy stuff, some sci fi. There is no "common group" that makes a vote on which game to focus on. There is just lots of people with different interests across the world and therefore room for both (and other games).

Having said that Bethedsa has a lot more history in the scene and people are used to their tools so even if REDKit 2 had been released together with TW3 there would still be lots of people making mods for Fallout 4.

Don't underestimate modders' creativity :)

How about hypothermia mod for the Witcher? Real needs, camping, skirmishes between various factions' armies, new quests to replace the boring question marks, wandering hordes of monsters, patrolling squads of guards, varied NPC dialgoues instead of same old repeated lines over and over again, new models for NPC so that the faces are not so repetitive, NPC's you can actually talk to, as opposed to get simple "Hmmm?", varied boat models, new light armours (witchers never wore medium/heavy armours in the books!), old style alchemy, actual beds you can rent in the inns, animations for drinking potions, animations for meditation, companion mod, so you can for example ask Zoltan to come and have some adventures with you, a gradual village expansion when you clear some place of monsters (as opposed to simply populating it with a few zombie NPCs and a merchant)...

Shall I keep going? :D

True, but it's a fact that the majority of modding community loves both :)

You misunderstood me. I don't underestimate modders. On the contrary actually. Modders are the reason many games still is actively played.
I'm strictly speaking of TW3 as a platform for mods. Many modders for Skyrim has barely played the game. They're only in it for modding it.
It needs interest.
Just look at the available mods on Nexus for TW2. 339 files. I don't know how many of those that are actually mods.
TW3 has just under 300. Most of them are just ReShade configurations.
Now look at Fallout 3 and FO New Vegas. Almost 30 000 mods in total.
Like I said, TW3 needs modders interest.

Ah, apologies then - I misread your post.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you here. But for that to happen RK2 must be out within 2-3 months.

To be fair though, Beth's games are the most AAA modder friendly games out there, they've been supporting modding for years and the tools were always released fairly quickly, so the modders are used to them. None of these is true for Witcher series sadly :(

Nice 1.07 patch coming with some very welcome features.

I'm 30hrs in, about 15% complete, just hit Level 11 and crafted the complete Griffin gear set (except the swords). I look like I could fly.
