The Zoolympic Games

I love that bat cave, and your terrain skills blow mine out of the water (I suck with terrain in this game). good job!
Thanks .. terrain isn't usually the problem .. how it reacts to pathing and barriers and water is annoying 🤣 So I usually stick with flat land zoos and just make small caves as sleeping areas if I feel like it 🤣

I wasn't much active here in the last couple weeks (and also didn't played PZ since end of May) and missed this entire new thing.:ROFLMAO: Really cool idea @Villanelle !
Also, the new challenge is really interesting, as I'm planning to build a nocturnal house for a long time now. So MAYBE I'll join but I've got a lot to do in reallife, so not sure, but I would totally love to!
Oh that's great :) I'm so happy this game is collecting more and more people who want to have some fun! Hope you find the time but if not this time, join us for another one soon :) and please join in the scoring when the round ends!

water is annoying 🤣

Guys I had so much fun today

In a field, with my friends, and my dog, and some bbq, and some drinks, and lots of great chats, and some wild swimming...

but a little part of my brain was thinking about my nocturnal house 😂 #obsessed
I went out for Fish and Chips and they were recording a documentary at the restaurant which was interesting. I don’t think I got on camera though. Oh well, next time!

Loving everyones entries! I am taking ages to build mine, only getting about an hour of PZ time a day, not enough at all! looking forward to seeing all the entries! 😬
😊

Don't worry, I've only been spending about an hour or two at a time on it .. still plenty of time to go

Okay, I've started something yesterday in the late evening and continued to work on it today. Not the original nocturnal house I've planned for one of my zoos because it would be too large to make it in time but I got really creative with another idea that I just got yesterday. So far I'm really happy with how it's coming together. Let's see if I can finish it in time:)

well I'm going to have to leave this account for a bit so I don't think I am able to vote on this competition, so I hope everyone has a fun competition and has a great week!

Do you think you could come back in a couple of weeks to score? It kind of throws the scoring off if someone submits an entry but doesn't score.

This is why, imagine 3 players A, B and C. Players are asked to give themselves a score of 1 point; these points are then deducted from the final result. If everyone scores that works out equally among them.

Let's imagine C doesn't score. Here's how A and B score, let's imagine they give 4 for everything.

Builds: A B C
A 1 4 4
B 4 1 4
C
Total: A: 4 B: 4 C: 8

If anyone can see a way around this, please share! I am asking in a maths group what the fairest system would be as I am sure this is an issue that will come up again. Or should there simply be a rule that you have to participate in judging if you submit an entry? I don't really want to disqualify anyone but it would be the fairest option mathematically.

Villanelle, maybe tallying the scores can wait until everyone entering can score

Issues:
Stopping someone from entering because they find they can't score after submitting or expecting to submit.
Like you said, scoring is skewed if things aren't 100% with entrants scoring.
Seeing as it's only a claim to fame reward type time thing - so ( as I mentioned above ) maybe you can keep scoring separate from each challenge and only put a time on the scoring once all entrants have put their scores in .

I'm always happy to extend the deadline by a couple of days, but I don't think we can wait around indefinitely. It's not fair on everyone else and I can't keep my life on hold while I wait around to do the game wrap-up admin (it takes me a few hours each time). Mr Hyrax tends to come and go from this forum at intervals so perhaps they'll return within the fortnight and get back to us.

I think the only options are:
a) not include the results for people who submit an entry but don't score
b) take an average of the overall scores for everything and use them as the absent scorer's scores

I'm leaning towards a because I think it's a really important part of the game - without people scoring we don't have a competition!

Whatever makes your admin work easier :) I didn't realise it took that long. So, definitely consider that side of things as well.

Yes - well done and thank you :) Please can you add all your screenshots / media into that as well? Your entry will be fully submitted via this sheet.

If you look at the last two rounds you'll see how I've organised everything into a single google folder to make scoring easier and to reduce the hours of admin on my part.

If everyone's entries are floating around in different comments on this thread it's very difficult to collect and share them and ensure things don't get missed when people are scrolling, so this is the system (for now at least).

Yeah and I mean, I enjoy it! Or I wouldn't be doing it :) But the faster/easier I can make the admin on my end the more sustainable this competition will be. I'd love to keep it going so figuring out what systems work best for everybody is key to it being fun, fair, and also practical for the organiser.

I'd love to be able to pass the baton to anyone else who'd like to run it, so getting all the rules and systems in place should also make life easier for them.

We're only up to round 3 so lots of time still for experimenting and figuring things out. The template thing is something I have questions about and also this issue of people not scoring ...

I think, having slept on it, that the only fair thing is not to include them in the results if they miss out on scoring. I will give plenty of warning and time though - this will only be in extreme circumstances where someone has totally dropped off the radar. If people agree that this is okay then I'll add a note about it to the first post with the rules and instructions.
