Modes These arguments are tedious.

Player supported Factions have been in the game for nearly three years - and are indistinguishable, in terms of the BGS, from NPC factions, i.e. they cannot be pledged to, they don't control access to their systems and docks, etc..

Open the pod bay doors please, Maynard

They had caved in and are adding "player" factions by hand for a couple of years already.

Actually, locking BGS away from player's input altogether would be the right move. All people which were baited here with hopes for the future improvements would leave, those who do not care would stay. Without PvP options, and ability to avoid it, makes this stuff too weird.

So what do you all think?

Player factions are just a gimmick. If I visit a system, i have no idea if the faction there is player named. I can't see if a player is supporting a faction, undermining the faction or is oblivious, like me.

It's meaningless meta content.

In orbit around Merope 5C there is a tourist beacon that explains about the Thargoid probe and how it points to a system in the Col 70 sector. I wrote the text for it.
If I were to camp the beacon and demand a Thargoid probe from each visitor, that would be funny emergent game play for me. Most visitors would not get it though. They would have to search the Galnet archives, to find out where the text came from.
The context would be in my head and in some obscure location on the internet. That's not good game play. :D

All this "make ED more like EVE" was predicted 4 years ago with rumors of Goonswarm or something wanting to change the game. When/if you PvPers have your way and remove the Solo/PG options will you want more "Guild" features like player to player trading, being able to own systems and charge for access etc? I think that if there is no movement towards "enhancing" PvP when Sandro starts his Focused Feedback for the 4Q update it will never happen.

Well Zaphod, as you said, many of those things are a result of similarities already existing in the game. Although I feel "you want losses to matter" is reaching.

If those are your indicators of ED moving towards Eve, I'm not worried in the slightest about ED moving towards Eve. Wake me up when indicators indicate other players preventing me from going into systems and stations. When groups start dominating. :)

Get rid of PvP and eliminating players affecting the BGS would go a long way to fixing this game. Then we wouldn't need the 'super cops' and the other tribal trinkets to keep the PvP kiddies happy. They (hopefully) would all bail to Eve and leave ED, thereby allowing the rest of us to enjoy our game in relative peace.

We could even get rid of this sub-forum.

As someone stated earlier that only a military response will work for some scenarios, where do I drop the small tactical nuke? ;) :D

PvP is here to stay, just like the modes.

There will never be any restrictive game mechanics that prevent PvP and there will never be any difference in game play or rewards based on mode choice.

Perhaps as well at that stage forum posters with mobius iconography in their sigs might stop talking like theyre some sort of intellectually superior being to those who play in open?

I am sure you will be fine paying for EDs existance by yourself. While your decision to this question is quite valid. It would be a decision which would leave no questions unanswered, not just a naive attempt to keep everyone happy by doing exactly nothing.

They don't need to keep "everyone" happy.

Just the majority. Apparently they've increasingly done well over the years as their financial reports continue to show.

Their financial reports have nothing to do with ED. ED did it's job right after it's release. After that, they threw baits in all directions to suck in a bit more.

But let's not derail the topic.

Agreed, you can avoid throwing in bait topics like "keeping everyone happy" to start with... fair enough?

Point being- implication of some sort of "doom prophecy" doesn't work here. It's been tried before. (many times, and failed many times)

What works here is facts and objective opinions- which I've yet to see counter arguments being properly presented without the inclusion of epeen factors and variables.

@Zaph, I think you missread my post. I meant if Eve does the high sec and c&p right and ED goes the same way, I'm not worried ED moves in those lanes.

What's funny is, if ED goes players owned economic structures and systém control I'll split so fast bananas are going to be talking about it for years. Meet you on the way in, on the way out.

What is the main part then?

Well, we can opt out of PvP in all modes but we cannot opt out of NPC interactions or the effects of the BGS.

So I'd say PvE token pushing is the main part of the game.

Thing is, playing in Open takes more tangible effort than in solo. And let's not provide a ton of exceptions where it doesn't apply.

No it doesn't, I've said again and again I'm flying a stock Beluga in Open and have been for a month - without ever having an issue.
I'm not the only person playing Open without "more effort".

So saying it takes more effort is a lie.

Where it comes to PP/BGS, it is not the case. Not even talking about CGs.

And that effort and risk is covered by nothing.

No more effort and no more risk in Open compared to PGs or Solo.

Hey guys. WoW is about to face the same problem. They are removing PvP servers and adding world PvP flag. Yet they would reward with bonus exp for keeping it on.

Thoughts? ED is not WoW etc etc... You loose nothing from dying from PvP in WoW, exept your time. Yet they are compensating even for that.

Wrong again- they're not adding a world PvP flag- players have always been able to flag themselves for PvP manually if they so choose to do so.

There's nothing "new" going on, other than an introduction of new World PvP areas with BfA.
