They said the Thargoid plot would be dynamic based on player reaction.

Yet every single official trailer, mention etc makes reference to a Thargoid war, the 'official' announcment of the Return was on the back of a post-battle scenario between Thargoids and Feds, and the cinematic trailer in today's stream (as cool as it was) clearly shows an aggressive posture being adopted by both humans and thargoids.

Can Frontier please explain why the change?

Or was player reaction already factored in to 2.4, perhaps by how many people tried to shoot the ships during hyperdictions?

I can't help but feel as if the way 2.4 is unveloping is a big kick in the teeth to the likes of Canonn and all those who would rather research and develop with the Thargoids rather than shooting them. Elite has never lacked for pew pew content and this update seems to be more of the same and we still have no indication that 2.4 will not just boil down to 'alien conflict zones' and 'thargoid powerplay'.

I dont see the 'change'. There will be a war. The war evolves depending on how well we perform. I imagine they borrow elements from PP to create a Thargoid bubble, for example. They may target regions for attack, we may counter attack, and the bubble grows, shrinks and moves.

Because FD know that many will open fire on them, add to that there are meant to be two tribes of Thargoids, one peacefull and running away from the more warlike ones and placing the bubble inbetween as a meat shield.

There does seem to be an emphasis on 'here's something new to shoot at'.

I'm currently ambivalent to whether this is a good or a bad development.

I do understand your concerns. (BTW, prepare yourself for being called a coward. :()

However, I like to look at things more closely.

That encounter. The Thargoid only turned around after being damaged.

Now, does this possibly hint at what precautions players can take?

I think so. Let me explain.

What if a Thargoid interdicts us, and we just float there?

Don't even deploy weapons. Just float. Get shut down. Here's another point. I don't see the Thargoids destroying a disabled ship. (By their own disabling.) Why? Simple. Gameplay. At the end of the day, if the Thargoids destroy you whilst EMP'd, that's... Not going to go down well. I'm fine with being destroyed, as long as I can attempt to avoid it. I suspect a great many players share my opinion.

So I'm not too worried now. Reality is, this game still has to entertain. If people start getting auto-deleted, I strongly suspect... Players will leave the game, for lack of perceived entertainment. For good. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth see.

I could be wrong, but I suspect this is how Frontier will handle the Thargoid question.

And OP, I'm going to get called a coward as well now. You're not alone. :(

Can you at least wait the two weeks and find out what our options are before deciding it is a kick in the teeth.

After all the Thargoids haven't shown as having clear aggressive posture, more a reaction one, but for the most part ignoring us.

You dont know what options are available yet

I also hope there will be peaceful interactions, and nothing in that Cinematic short excludes the possibility, mere shows those Humans chose weapons test as clearly the best choice, rather than testing Olive branch launchers, or such
