Things in the game you've always wondered about

Why would you spin a coriolis?

A cylinder, sure. Orbis yep. Non rotating platform stations make sense.
But a coriolis station is a ridiculous thing to rotate.

Angular momentum. Essentially, things just seem to want to rotate, and stopping a Coriolis station from rotating would be a massive waste of fuel.

I don't think its telling you to slow down.

I think its telling you that you are slowing down because you are in a gravity well. [smile]

It is. What baffles me is I get told "slow down" all the way to my destination - okay, fine, I'm being slowed down - but then 9 times out of 10 the message comes up as I approach my target station and my ship suddenly speeds up and I overshoot?? Why does it do that?

A commander works hard to gain favour with a faction so he can be considered worthy enough to acquire a permit to access restricted star systems. Why is their permit not permanently revoked after committing crimes in said system, crimes like smuggling, piracy, terrorism?

Loud I said.

The "slow down" thing, if it's a report instead of a command, should read "slowdown".

And while we're at it. Why aren't commanders' system permits for non-permit systems revoked when they commit crimes in those systems? If you are visiting a country and commit a crime there, I am quite confident the farewell spiel of the immigration officer is not going to be "thank you for visiting Country and becoming wanted here. Please come again and enjoy your day."

I always wondered: who are the people that live and work at - and go to vacations at - surface bases with 4+ G's like Ceres Tarn in HR 1185? Sturdy folks no doubt!

Why do our flight suits allow for a separate toe? Are we going to develop opposable big toes in the future? What can we actually operate with this marvellous new evolutionary feature? (Could it be the jettison all cargo button, or worse, the self destruct switch under our toes?)

Our ships are under zero gravity. I'd imagine that having the ability to grab onto stuff, or to hold yourself in position, with your toes would probably be a useful skill a spacer would develop.

Didn’t read all the replies, but why piracy exists? At all?

Quadrillion tonnes of unclaimed, free precious metals and rocks floating everywhere in space, just begging to be picked up easily and quickly.

But no. Mr Pirate needs 2T of food cartridges right now. Ok mate, enjoy cold hard vacuum.

The ED universe has been carefully designed to allow piracy to happen, and has been filled with an infinite supply of NPC morons in lightly armed pirate ships to make sure it happens, quite frequently. I'll admit it's an annoying feature of the game, for me. Some piracy should exist - after all, one could just as easily argue that with easy access to government welfare and charities, crime shouldn't exist in the 21st century either. But the level of piracy and the general lack of strategic and tactical awareness of the pirates is silly. If I were a pirate and I flew into a RES site looking for easy targets but instead found local space filled with the debris of a couple dozen of my recently-deceased fellow-pirates, I'd assume there was a mean pirate-hunter lurking about and I'd get out of there pronto. I wouldn't stay there and wait to be his next victim. "Bounty farming" should not be a thing.

Why do the traffic controllers never sleep? Always the same controller at the same port. You'd think they'd rotate in 8 hour shifts or similar.

Unless of course they are meant to be just voice recordings in the game.

They do sleep, and do operate on 8 hour shifts. It's just that the Pan-galactic Air Traffic Controller's Union insists that starports must hire identical triplets, to ensure consistency of arrival messages. Of course, non-triplets in Imperial space wanting to become air traffic controllers can always get themselves cloned a couple of times.

Hear hear, to that. I'd like to see more demotability, generally. Give actions some long-term consequences that would make people actually think twice about doing them. Betray a permit-owning faction? Get your permit revoked. Betray and commit crimes against a superpower you've already ranked up with? Get demoted and whatever permits and ships you unlocked, get locked back up again. Any locked ships you already own you can keep, but you can't buy new ones or rebuy replacements if you lose them. Same with Powerplay: want to keep your powerplay toys? Stay pledged, or you lose the right to re-buy them.

A lot of these questions are rhetorical or tongue in cheek. Those attempting to answer those type make me laugh out loud.

Glad to provide some amusement for you. :D

People are lazy and don't want to scavenge

Many people seemed to have mentioned it, so I'll clarify with my own opinion (which might be wrong).

In my opinion, pirates go after things like food like the plague becuase, like real life, food is extremely valuable. Just look at how easy it is to make money selling it to states in famine. And, pirates may want to steal it to cause famines, thereby having power over that system. Same for the people that blow your ship up over food.

But I'll state again, this is just my opinion.

When approaching a station, why do I get labelled for speeding when I go over 100 m/s but the docking computer can go well over 100 and not be warned.

I put this down to a computer having a faster reaction time than humans, the game considers it safe for the DC to go faster, though a nose boink into the outer part of the slot sometimes brings this into question.

Mine is why after getting over 115% heat one gets an occasional "[OHClog] Hazardous Substance Detected" warning. Yes I know the ship is heating up, but what's the hazardous substance? Burning electronics and plastic?

...and a more valid question - why do none of the permit locked systems have anything in them that was actually worth getting the permit for to begin with?

It still befuddles my brain that a Controlling Faction can offer you a mission that will result in you being fined or incurring a bounty by the very same Faction - and they still pay you!

When will the game to this teaser be released?

How come I can murder someone outside a station, become Wanted, jump out of the system, jump back in, land at the station and be greeted with a warm "welcome back commander" ... unless I'm scanned before I land, in which guess I'm gunned down like a dog.

What's going on here? The station knows about me and says "welcome back" and also knows that my ship is on the Wanted list, but doesn't realise that the pilot that just requested docking permission is also the pilot of the murderous Diamondback Explorer named the "Bananery Fandango"? Is there no equivalent of the DVLA in the 34th century???

the station dosnt know you until you are scanned
if you want change that you create a war with all smugglers and
especially with cmdrs which have a bounty on there head

I disagree, I have persistent rep with its minor factions and it says "welcome BACK" (which suggests it knows I've been there before) (and "an ally like you is hard to find" and other stuff like that) so it definitely recognises me in some way.
