This has to be a bug, can’t upgrade FSD 3, 4, 5 increased range

I'm not sure if you've hit a bug or you may have done things in the wrong order.

What I normally do when unlocking an Engineer and wanting to do an upgrade, let's say Farseer and the FSD, is to first do all of the FSD upgrades with Farseer up to level 5, and then I can use the pinned blueprint up to level 5 remotely.

Also remember you cannot apply an experimental effect remotely, you have to get the engineer to do that.

What I would do in your situation, is to remove the modification on the FSD, and then apply all the upgrades again at Farseer. Whilst it sucks that you will have wasted your time and materials, that might be the only way and you will have to treat this as a learning experience.

This is probably the way to go at least I’ll be able to figure out how it works that way, what’s a few more hours gathering lol .... I guess I just really got a bit offended , I like the game a lot ( my Wife says I like it Too much ) and I really misled for the first time made me take it a bit to personal lol

I really appreciate all the great advice

If you already got Farseer to G5, that is indeed a bug if it said you still needed to gain more rep while doing mods later.

That has nothing to do with needing to start over, if you change the base modification from increased range to shielded.
That would be normal.

I will check again tomorrow after work but I am pretty sure I am already at level 5 Rep with Farseer as I sold her a lot of exploration data.

It might not show you being at the proper level now.

I think the bug has to do with remote engineering.
A few of my pinned blueprints disappeared and showed up "broken" in the remote engineering UI, several times since the last major update.

Like my Company IT guy would tell me to try first: try rebooting. In this case log out and back it.

If already unlocked G5, then it's a bug if you are at Farseer and have the mats for G3.

Remember to keep rolling G2 until the circle gets Pass ~75% before G3 become available for rolling.

You would need to roll G2 a few times to get the circle progress bar pass 75% before you upgrade to G3.

This part I’m not understanding yet ? I thought the outcomes were all fixed outcomes now?
Do we still need to do some kind of reroll before commit ?

It was not at all obvious to me when I did level 1 and 2 that I could do anything other then accept what was on the screen at the time

Wow well, I am a new player and this is my first experience with what I see other players complaining about, I would probably not feel bad if it was explained up front but a new player doing this for the first time is not expecting to hit a wall when they cone back after running all around collecting stuff expecting to get the upgrade that was presented as “ bring me this and this” and I will give you this, it’s a bait and switch ... very disappointing.
Good one.

No, Flin is saying it takes a few rolls (not re-rolls like the old system) on G2 to get to G3, not a single roll. It would have been the same on G1 and G2.

Thank you for this I opened a ticket as the details sound a lot like my situation....pinned blueprint and first upgrade done at a remote engineer.

Waiting to hear back from Froniter.

Cool, hope you get it resolved soon.
In that thread someone had to start over, so I suppose that's your only recourse too.

Ftr, when I unlock an engineer for the first time, I make sure I have all the mats to go to at least the beginning of G5, plus the experimental.
Then I do one roll at G1 and apply the experimental right away, just in case I miscalculated the mats.

The initial unlocking will require more mats/rolls per level than once you are repped up with the engineer.

Initially it might take 4-6 rolls at G1 and going up to about 7-10 rolls by G5, to max out.
When you have full rep the lower levels take way less, eg one roll at G1, but you may still need 10 rolls at G5.

If you are low on higher level mats, doing more rolls than necessary at the lower levels (ie the next level is already unlocked) will advance the rep progress bar further than without.

PS, don't hesitate to ask about which mods and experimentals to use.
Some are useless and others are practically "must haves".
There isn't much to tell you what is useful or not, at face value.

Wow this sounds needlessly complicated lol

But thank you for explaining it to me I’m not sure I fully understand it yet it’s just bizarre frankly

Yes PLEASE any recommendations for my Krait MK II to make it the perfect all rounder with a primary focus on Exploration!

Thank you!

Ok so I finally got my FSD upgraded to level 5 ( I think I still can hit it once or twice more) ? Still not really understanding that multiple upgrade mechanic ... anyway just glad that’s OVER for now lol

Felicity got my jump range from low 30’s to low 40’s so I was pretty happy with that.

I think the MAIN issue I was having was the lack of explanation from the game, well that along with all the stuff that makes no sense lol

Well anyway it all must work somehow because I’m still playing and in general enjoying it, back out into the dark for me with that increased jump range I am finding it easier to get around.

Wow this sounds needlessly complicated lol

Perhaps it is complicated, but needlessly complicated? Mmm, I think most games are too simple nowadays, to the point that I don't bother buying/playing them; there's no need to dumb Elite down to that level. Give me X3, X4, Stellaris, Civ6 et al over mindless "follow the waypoint" game-play any day.

One thing is for certain, it's much easier and less time consuming to get G5 modules compared to previously.

  • Remote workshops
  • Higher jump ranges to travel around the bubble
  • Can transfer modules between stations
  • Module storage limit is higher
  • You get 3 mats for every 1 you collect
  • Easier to get mats via missions
  • Data/Material traders
  • Can see what mats are on what planet
  • More extensive EDDB
et al

We've never had it this easy

I know this is a very old thread, but I seem to have a similar problem. And I have searched. A lot. This is the first thread that made sense. May have missed something though.

I've got Elvira Martuuk to grade three access via exploration.

But I can't apply level two increased FSD range, I have the mats. I have done level one, it's on the FSD now.

Do I also have to do Faster boot and Shielded at level one? That seems ridiculous. Says the same type. To me, that is all "longer jump" not "all FSD".

Read above "be patient". Yes. But I want to take my DBX into the black and not come back for a very, very long time.

You have to be AT the engineer's Location to increase LEVELs on a blueprint you can not increase level on a blue print via remote engineering...

As stated in other posts here if your over all engineer Level is not high enough you will not be able to do more higher levels and you will need to engineer more items to level 1 to increase the engineers over all level up higher...

Look at her other items she can engineer and see which you have lots of level 1 mats for and engineer them...
Engineeres have a total level skill number for there hole skill set not just the levels applied to items...
If your time with an engineer has not been long enough there overall level will still be at level 1 so nothing that supports 2-5 will be unlocked...
