Community Event / Creation Thrustmaster Warthog Configuration & Sheets

@Hyp3rion - I did originally look at the 2-stage trigger, but I found I didn't have the control to only partially pull the trigger for the main fire group. Too much over excitement in combat I'm afraid ;-)

Ha ha, fair enough Mikey! :D

You dont need to use the TARGET software. Im not using it.

In the ED game start with the default option for your Warthog HOTAS (on key/controls configuration). Then play the game and assign the extra stuff that you need and dont have.

Look at the joystick image of the original post of this thread and look for

TARGET Panel
SENSOR Panel
SYSTEM Panel

and

UI Action UP
UI Action DOWN
UI Action LEFT
UI Action RIGHT

with those you will be able to move through menus inside the ship.
I have it a slightly diferent. for right/left I have next/previous menu tab.

Thanks Anni, getting there slowly, but getting there. I think I'll leave TARGET software alone for now, and just use the in game options to reset inputs. But it's agreat HOTAS is the Warthog :)

There is some cool trickery that can be done with Target.

For example when interdicted and you don't want to or are unable to fight, you want full power to engines and the rest to shields quickly. For docking you want full power to shields in case you have a close encounter with drunken pilots or cowboys.

I've set up the 3-way pinkie switch on the left side of the throttle lever to give max engines in the forward position and max shields in the rear position. Target lets you map a particular switch position to a series of commands.

So if I flip the pinkie switch forward it automatically does the down, left, up, up, up keystrokes in less than a second and I have full power to engines and the remainder to shields.

Hi Mikey, downloaded the script and run it using target, this should map all the keys right? or do I still have to do this in game? I thought the script would do that, once i have run the script in target it says it has assigned virtual keyboard, stick etc but the script keeps running, do i need to stop it or just let it run in background.

Once in ED what control option do i choose?

Thanks

J

Noob to The new TM gear.

You still have to map the keys/axis in game. Or at least that's what I found. It's a one time deal, so you're always good to go after doing it the once.

As for Target, yes when you run the script it stays running in the background to give you the macros/key mappings. As I get more familiar with Target I'll look at creating more macros to do special things, just like "hst12" described above.

In ED it doesn't really matter which control option you choose. I think as soon as you start amending them it switches to custom anyway. So I would just start remapping all of the controls as per the config sheet, or your variation of that and once you map them all you're good to go.

And there's nowt wrong with being a noob, I would say I was only one minor step from a noob on Target myself :)

Thanks so what exactly is the purpose if running the script in target or should I not bother, confused as it does not seem to do anything from what you said?

Thanks

There are some advantages at present, tho not huge. The scoop for instance is set to deploy/retract based on the switch position. Without Target running it would just work as a key press. I've also bound some of the switches to trigger the LEDs.

As ED modify more of their controls to work in a "Toggle -Off" state then you will see more advantage with it. Change the control toggle option from "Toggle" to "Hold" for scoop and you'll see the behaviour (which reminds me I should make this clearer in post #1).

You may well find it doesn't really give you much more with Target than without currently, and as I said I am a beginner with the software myself. Many people have said they just run without Target at the mo. Give it a try and see what it's like, if you don't take to it then file it under "Meh" and enjoy ED without it.

But when I out scoop you because of my superior mappings you'll come running back ;-)

Hi all have run the script and programmed the Warthog from within ED. Some control like targetting work but the throttle even though set to forward only will not slow the ship to zero the x and y axis seem very sluggish. Any ideas?

I have other questions but seems sensible to get basics working first.

Thanks

J

Right have sorted the basics like throttle, pitch, roll etc still not sure how people are using yaw if you dont have rudder pedals, (suggestions welcome). Got the UI working like the panel, divert power etc.

This may be a question for Mikey but sure some of you guys know as well I can not seem to assign the switches indicated in the pics to operations such silent running, hypercruise etc. It seems to be the actual switches that dont respond as opposed to buttons.

Any ideas why I can not assign these in ED itself?

Many thanks

J

IIRC with the switch off, when you click on the control to change it you turn the switch on and then off. I'm not at home till tomorrow otherwise I would check it properly.

Also worth checking with the "event tester" once you have the Target software running to make sure that it's working properly.

Thanks Mikey will give that a try off being when the stick is down Ie pointing to rear of controller? Now just having problems with the beta lossing my custom control settings grrr lol.

Hey Mikey when you get back home and have beta 1 try loading traget then running ed see it affects your abilty to use custom control setting me and at least 1 other finding it does?

TM Warthog GUI not working

Need a little help here.

I just downloaded ED and am trying to use your profile. But I have no idea what I need to change in the Game Menu, key wise. Not sure what all that stuff is and what letter or number I need to put where, to make this profile operate.

When I go into Controllers once; there was a selection to pick to Warthog, now there is not. Just Generic Joystick.

If you can give me a step by step would be greatly appreciated. As I am new to the Warthog and not quite in tune with how to program it.

I looked on YouTube hoping someone would have a step by step video on how to set up a TM Warthog, but I cannot locate one.

Again, I would need to know what all that stuff in the Controller scroll does.

Thanks for any help on this..

Hi RJ I will help as much as I can which may be limited but should help a little. With the switch controls (Throttle unit) these have been pre bound so you need to go into the controls and make sure the correspond to the correct keystroke ie L for lights. With the button presses simply bind them on the fly in ED control settings by selecting to the action you want to bind ie select target in gunsight is the button on the top right of the stick.

As soon as you start binding keys then the controls will show custom

HTH Give me a shout if you have any questions.

Finally got to give this a go last night having upgraded my pre-order to the beta package :D

Couldn't figure out exactly how the script worked with ED or what to set in the ED settings, ended up not using the script and custom mapping the controls but re-reading your OP and a few other posts I think I realise what to do now - basically the same thing but map the controls to the keyboard button the scripted switches line up against, all other controls are just manually custom mapped.

Have to say your control scheme (with a few tweaks / changes of my own) works brilliantly. Don't even have to take my hands of the stick or throttle except to type a message or mouse through the station menus / galaxy map.

So thanks again!
