Time for some positivity, no dinosaur limit, or very high limit.

What is a "JPOG"? Please explain your initialisms on first use. One of my big bug bears is people assuming everyone else knows whatever random initialism they decide to throw in without explaining it.

Thanks,

Z...

That's literally the same as someone asking a forum to explain what 'a COD' is.

Don't be smug. Some of us are old and although I played JPOG a decade ago I forgot. My love for dinosaurs is a hobby, not a job.
Plus googling JPOG doesn't really help, try it and see.

I should also add that my love for dinosaurs is also a hobby, but thats irrelevant when we're in a specifically dinosaur related gaming forum and someone complains when they don't know what the most beloved and famous and dinosaur game is. Thats a lazy argument.

I literally typed 'jpog' into google and the only thing that came up was search results for jpog the game.

Have you ever heard of google search survey and algorithm? It found you the right JOPG because
a) you've searched for it before
b) it knows you like dinosaurs
c) it compares your most visited sites and shows you the most relevant results.

I am a military guy, When I google JPOG all I get is NATO Joint Operations Planning Group.

Im fairly sceptical. For a start, thats the wrong acronym (its JPOG not JOPG). Secondly, I just left the Australian army after 4 years as a rifleman so i'm not entirely sure what your point is (yes i googled army stuff over the last 4 years).

But most importantly, and this is important: regardless of whether you're into dinosaurs as much or not as much; if you take part in forums with people who are big fans of a specific topic (ie; dinosaurs), you would usually expect that well known relevent content will be assumed. Is that inpolite of us? Perhaps, but as I said, you have literally the entire internet at your disposal.

For example, try searching 'jpog dinosaurs'.

Is that impolite of us?

Actually yes. Very. That is is the only reason I'm having conversation with you. To see how far you can get your "Screw you if you don't know what this acronym means it's your fault, I'm not telling" attitude before I put you on my ignore list.

If you are more knowledgeable than someone else, maybe someone who is new to this, you should be helpful, not smug.

You misunderstand me. If you're unsure about something, then I have absolutely no problem with answering questions. What is not fine is expecting that we have to explain univerally known (in these circles) acronyms because on the very rare case someone doesn't know it.

And as i've said three times now, the internet is literally the modern equivalent of the library of alexandria; the entirety of human knowledge condensed into an exceedingly accessible location.

However, there are really nice people on this forum and we are more than willing to inform less informed people. Ask though.

Well, Zeeman asked. Now go up and read your response. It really doesn't leave an impression of a nice person who doesn't have problems with answering questions.

And one more thing - the notion that you don't have to explain "Universally known" things is just misguided. Please try to reconsider your opinion on this, before you drive away another person who maybe just likes the game and came here to find out more about it.

And in my above message, when I say 'explain', im not refferring to if someone asks, I'm refferring to having to explain every single acronym. Other wise this is an example of what it would look like; 'JWE (jurassic world evolution) is a JP (jurassic park) game tied in with JWFK (jurassic world fallen kingdom) which is a spiritual successor to JPOG (jurassic park operation genesis).

Do you understand why thats not sustainable? It's reasonable and just logical to assume SOME level of prior knowledge purely for just ease of conversation.

You do not understand. My objection is not that he asked, it's that he got upset that JPOG was an assumed acronym. Which it is in a dinosaur related forum. I dont know how else I can explain this.

There are nuances here you do not seem to get.

You can assume all you want. If you don't want to answer question "for ease of conversation" just don't. Someone else will do it for you (like I did for Zeeman). But drop the smug remarks. Just don't say anything.

Yeah, we both need a time-out.

Im kind of flabbergasted that are still saying the exact same thing.

This is the last time I'm going to say it: I have no issue with answering someones question. I would not and do not respond 'smugly' to someone who doesn't know as much as me about things. What is necessary for a conversation about (seemingly) esoteric topics is that the people in those conversations assume that others know what they're talking about. It's exactly the same thing you will find in literally any academic paper. If you're unsure about something, i'm more than happy to illuminate anything.

Don't then (not you, but anyone) get upset if everyone isn't catering to your knowledge gaps. Just ask and someone will answer your question. Don't post a question asking for people to explain literally every acronyn. It's intellectually lazy and easily avoidable.

Whatever the response, you have to at least acknowledge that if you don't know something that you can ask nicely what it means and not blame someone for not explaining it properly because the acronym is unknown to that specific person. JPOG is a universally accepted acronym for Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and I don't think it's necessary to explain it because it can be assumed that 90% know what it means. The other 10% can ask what it means if needed (or google it). This is I think what Dino droppings meant and I agree.

Exactly what I was saying.

I spent last two years in Elite newcomers forum explaining things that "should be obvious" so no, I DON'T agree.
Just because a person is perhaps frustrated or doesn't form the question the way you like, doesn't mean you can mock them and refuse to answer. I don't know, maybe I'm weird.

I really don't think 'mock' is a very appropriate word choice. I was not 'mocking' the fact he was unaware of what JPOG meant, I was responding to the tone in which he expected us to explain, yes, universally known acronyms. As I illustrated earlier, for ease of conversation it's logical that some knowledge is assumed. I'm not entirely sure why that is a controversial thing to say.

And as myself and Kevinosaurus have stated (me four times now): we have no objection to explaining unknown things to people.
Please read my above sentence as many time as you need until you understand it.

It has absolutely nothing to do with what is 'obvious' or not, its the implied demand that we should simply have to explain literally everything we say to people by virtue of there being people who may not know what we're talking about.

Wow. Watching that video first got me excited again.. but im really interested into what JWE really is. Without a day night cycle, this would more feel like an RTS campaign mode than a park building game. I still dont doubt there will be a sandbox mode somehow. Frontier aren't that stupid.

I love it how none of the devs mention JPOG ever, yet JPOGs core mechanics are 100% also done here. Even the UI is similar (in a blue paint HD reworked). Sensitive about something?

It's because they want people to know it's not really a sequel, it's a whole new game. It's Frontier's game. I can respect that. But yeah it's obvious they used a lot of JPOG's mechanics and they obviously played the game. They borrowed a lot from JPOG.

This game isn't a direct sequel it's a spiritual successor.

Ok ok ok,

Think we all need to calm down a bit :)

This is a new forum with a new community building up for a game that we have been looking forward to for a VERY long time! As such, this won't look good to any newcomers (Such as myself) and it might discourage them from asking any questions. We need to be patient where we can as Newbies are what will keep this game alive. :)

My $0.02.
