[TIP] Store your mining gear before leaving Omega

Guys, something i thought about during this weeks mining extravaganza, when I got to Omega a discovered a shipyard so instead of adjusting my Phantom i bought an Asp and converted it into a miner. When i leave and head of to the next WP i will strip the Asp of all the mining gear and store them there....why....If, when we get to WP7 and the next CG starts who knows what will be waiting for us inside the station, will it have a Shipyard or not, Will it be stocked full of all the mining gear or not in Outfitting???

So, just in case there is no Shipyard to transfer my Asp and there is Outfitting but it doesnt have all the mining gear, just like Omega at the start. I will be able to transfer it out here. OFC if there is a shipyard i can either buy again or transfer.

What im saying is don't just store your ship (if you did what i did and purchased one at Omega), and expect to be able to transfer it to the next CG. Strip it and store it.

Yeah, I'm planning to transfer gear to WP7 if we can do that, but gear isn't for sale there. Supposedly we'll know more soon about what will actually be there. Obviously it'll be a moot point if the gear is sold there.

The one thing I'm not doing is bringing it with me, since I'm running a science boat, rather than a miner. If we don't have outfitting there, then I won't be helping the second CG. ;)

Well, you could always change your ship choice you know. :D

I have my mining ship stored at Omega, probably just call that up when we hit that part of the journey.

Can't do that if WP7 doesn't have a shipyard.

At WP2, Frontier made it easy for us and plopped down a shipyard and modules to buy. With the huge success of the first CG after only 24 hours, I think it's likely that the WP7 CG won't be made so easy for us.

So store your modules at Omega and take a ship that can mine at WP7 after you transferred your modules there.

Keep in mind that it was a 15 hour wait for anything from the bubble for wp2, so that huge success was mostly those who transferred equipment before or had them already. It was almost completed within 20 hours

I think one of the DW2 staff mentioned somewhere that FDev is pretty strongly opposed to having a shipyard at the core station, so we'll probably have to transfer modules, not ships. Just something to keep in mind.

One thing that might also be important to take note of is if there will be a detention facility at the core. WP2 had a prison one jump away, that was IIRC also set up just for this event. This made it easy for anyone who got a bounty because they could just turn themselves in and respawn close by, instead of back in the bubble.

At WP7, this might all be different, and if there's a bounty hunting CG again, CMDRs will have to be extremely careful with friendly fire, as any mistake might effectively throw them out of the expedition, i.e. by getting shipped off to prison at Colonia or god knows where.

By my Guesstimate....

It is approx 20 000 LY to Sag A area, it is approx. 16 000 LY to Colonia.
It takes approx. 46 hours to transfer gear from Colonia to Omega station (as per my outfitting screen...)

So, I guess it will take approx. 50 some hours to get mining gear from Omega to the new station ?

Of course, if FD stock mining gear at the new station... this is irrelevant !

BUT....if all fails and you have stripped your ships of mining gear and have stored them, you WILL have the option to ship them.

It's all about the "Just in case"

Strip all your mining gear... except keep a mining laser. Never go far into the black without a mining laser. You never know when you might be in urgent need of jumponium. Call it Macedonica's rule.

And yes I know there'll be people thinking, it's okay, there'll be lots of other people there, if I'm in trouble someone will help. Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't (if you're in need of jumponium, it stands to reason that you're not going to be in a nice accessible location). Don't go exploring assuming that someone will help you out. Be self-sufficient. Be an interstellar Ray Mears.
