To Boldly Go

As of right now, the ship I'm aiming for is the Diamondback Explorer, which, if I saw the cost right, is only 1.8 million CR. It's probably not the best exploration ship out there, but it's one within reach as of right now, and the increased cargo hold and speed of travel will help me gain CR faster in the future. I'd definitely love to get an Anaconda in the future, but for right now, that cost is simply unattainable. I've just been running a ton of deliveries between local systems, but I hope to get out into the unknown soon
DBX is my favourite explorer

Arr, someone reignited my exploration spark, I should plan some nice sightseiing&exploration trip
Hehe, that's really nice to hear! Just going out into the void and exploring the unknown has been one of the best experiences I've ever had in a video game, and discovering something big really makes you feel great! Have fun out there!

DBX is my favourite explorer
I absolutely love everything about the DBX; the maneuverability, the jump range, the versatility, and especially the helicopter like look. I think the only problem I have with it is that I can't really fit all of the optional modules I want on it for a long term expedition, but it's always the ship I use when exploring close to the bubble or just going anywhere that doesn't involve staying for months outside of colonized space

Well, the only reason I didn't use the Krait Phantom is because I personally think that it's the ugliest ship in the game, and as you can tell, I take a lot of 3rd person pictures with my ship in the foreground. I'd probably go mad within the first week of that based on how hard it would be to make a picture of the Phantom actually photogenic

Well looks are question of taste, here is mine with wear and tear during my Ishum's Reach trip

Once I do come back to the bubble, which faction should I sell my data to? I'd assume it could get me pretty far with any faction, but I'm not sure which is the best

Sell to lots of them, spread it around. One good one is Sirius Corp for the permit. Some engineers take explo data for access rep.

If you have a home system, fly to neighboring systems and staitons to raise rep with the controlling faction. A controlling faction at one station will likely be a minor faction at a number of other stations. By spreading it around, you'll soon have allied status with a bunch of factions in the region resulting in more and better missions on offer. This is what I do. On this Colonia trip, I sold it to eight different stations in the area, quickly raising rep in the neighborhood.

Well, since it was always my goal to leave the bubble, my home system was just the first system I went to after being kicked out of Dromi, so it's not great. What's the permit from Sirius Corp?

The Sirius permit allows access to the engineer Marco Qwent. He is not a that vital, but he in turn introduces you to Professor Palin, who is one you want to unlock.

To unlock Palin, he requires the prospective applicant has flown at least 5,000 light years from his or her starting system. You'll do that easily. When I did my Palin trip several years back, I remember I used some of the data to get allied with Mother Gaia and with Achenar. If you will always be nomadic, it may not matter all that much where you sell it.

I think you'll need around 6 mil to go from 'nice to meet you' to allied status

What type of rank?

Faction rep yes. Superpower ranks, no, you need to run missions for factions aligned with that superpower, or do the donation missions, trading cash for rep..

Pilot's federation ranks are a little different. Selling exploration data will boost your exploration rank for example.

I kind of want a Sol permit, just to be able to visit Earth. I currently have around 30 million worth of exploration data, but I only started really scanning systems yesterday. So, based on that estimate, I should have several hundred million once I get back, I think.
