To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

And I already explained - turn the flag ON if you want that. Not everyone wants the danger, and shouldn't be excluded from open play if they don't. The flag solves that for both scenarios. 🤷‍♀️

It's the same as reporting crimes against you.
You don't understand - the mere presence of the flag would change it for me, as it would tell me stuff about the other player that otherwise I wouldn't know.
People are in no way excluded from open if they don't want danger. Plenty of people die to NPCs, it's not exclusive to open.

Also there are enough things that break suspension of disbelief in Elite, adding magic godmode ships would make it 1000000 times worse

If I don't consciously fly to a CZ, or a nav beacon, I never encounter hostile NPCs. So obviously I don't do that when I'm flying in an explorer build.

However, I can be blown up by a player outside a station whilst docking.

As I said, it's just like the flag for reporting crimes against you. You can flip that on and off at will. Now, I'd be fine with a restriction on how often you can change the PvP flag (because it would be open to abuse), but that's not a reason not to have it.

Consider how much this kind of toggle will be abused in power-play situations... fortifiers being unstoppable, underminers being unkillable.

The proposal just looks worse than what the current solo/PG exploits allow.

Oh, right. I guess that's what happens when npcs are your average run-of-the-mill nobodies, that are mostly there to die, while cmdrs can single handedly win political wars spanning multiple star systems, with minimal effort. The universe kinda revolves around us, despite what the game would want you to believe.
I can't see how that's related at all.

Also I wonder if:

- players could not tell if they were killed by a player or npc

Or

- if some npc's were an actual threat , and from time to time some would see the rebuy screen

Would people react the same 🤔

Well, if we are at anecdote level, this might take a while. All my coop experience in Elite are with people I knew from forums or discord, in PG, and they were quite good. I could not have that experience in Open because I would not have trusted these people.
Which is completely unrelated to my initial argument, I suggest you read it again.
Your argument remains invalid, unless you can improve it.
You need to understand it first. ;)

Obviously it would have to be carefully implemented, and with significant restrictions on how often the flag can be changed, because as you point out it would be highly open to abuse if it were a free-for-all.

However, none of that is insurmountable, and shouldn't stop the inclusion of the flag IMO.
