To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

By not being in Open? Do you not see how utterly backwards game design that is?
No. Open is the PvP enabled mode in ED. The "utterly backwards game design" would be to make it less so.
BTW there is very little benefit Open can possibly offer to someone who is so vehemently against competitive gameplay like you. What little co-op gameplay potential there is in ED (especially for an explorer) you can perfectly experience with friends in PG - or in Open, for that matter, with a little bit of preparation (using an Open-compatible build and choosing one of the 3999999997 / 4000000000 systems where the chance to get attacked by a player is infinitesimally small).

Never saw any griefing in SWTOR MMO on PvE server. But a couple spontaneous PvP fights. And didnt ever need anyone to react in justifiable manner but I didn't really go to the PvP zones. They were empty most of the time anyway.

I guess that'd depend on whether another MMO has similar mechanics to ED.

I mean, if you're fighting, in a CZ, for one side and another CMDR is fighting for the other side I think PvP would be justifiable.
If, however, the other player has their "PvP flag" off, it means you can't do anything to hinder their progress.

There ARE times, in ED, where PvP should be a possibility and, in those cases, the ability to just fly with "PvP off" just creates an "easy mode".

This.

Funnily it is what drove me out of Mobius:
the utter insanity that is to forbid PvP in any circumstances, including PvP on opposing CZ sides.

And spare me the utterly ridiculous claim every ganker used that to gank to their hearts desire in Mobius.
Fly to a battlefield, get shot. The horror.

But won't you still have the limitations imposed by instancing anyway?

How many people do you want in your coop?
As many as possible.
Maybe there can only be a few players in one system but more player would increase the chance to meet players in other systems.

In the days when Mobius allowed fighting in CZs there were people joining Mobius specially so they could hang around in a CZ and not pick a side until another CMDR did, then picking the opposing side just so they could attack the other CMDR. Hardly in the spirit of Mobius and nothing to do with any in-game benefit (they didn't care which side they fought for).

I agree with you, I think fighting on opposite sides in a CZ should be possible in Mobius, and I find Mobius "too safe" in some situations. But faced with the infiltration, the only thing the Mobius admins could do was forbid all PvP fighting anywhere, even in CZs. The reason it was the only thing they could do is that FD have left the provision of a PvE mode to players and not provided the necessary admin tools. If Mobius admins are faced with two players saying "He attacked me"; "No, he started it", they have no way to know who's telling the truth. Therefore, all they can do is enact that the situation must not arise.

I see this as FD's failure. They didn't make the obvious missing mode; they left it to players and PGs; they failed to provide PG admins with necessary tools; the failure persists to this day. I still think that eventually they'll have to address the issue with either a mode or a flag as discussed here ad-infinitum.

The "easy" mode is already there, it is just scattered between different private groups and solo, while there is one open pvp group.

So why can't there be also one pve group instead of having to split the community between multiple private groups?

I want to play PvP. But combat has been a mess for 6 years since engineering made massive imbalances. And I did the grind for every relevant engineering, so I have it. But it's boring the way it's set up now so I just choose not to partake. I want for the threat range of NPCs to be bigger in general and not have engineering = strong ship easy mode. I also want for there to be a greater variety of viable builds for PvP, so we don't see the same single meta ship for 6 years in a row. A lack of variety is a death sentence for multiplayer competitive games. I play a lot of combat flight sims with PvP, but I don't have an interest to do it in ED due to these reasons.

Sounds like you need a mechanism of organising people to go to the same system rather than getting enough people into your instance to improve the chances of meeting them. I'me sure it would not be too difficult to post a meet up and create a private group so that you could ban the gankers.

Honest answer please: how many of those circumstances are known to you personally and how many are horror stories from someone who knows someone that heard from his aunt's son playing Elite and who got ganked?

I know first hand from an infiltrator (which I called out on our discord) and know how fast Mobius reacts.
Hell, I know Saberius ingame and that he vets the groups and kicks gankers very thoroughly (ganking in PG is crap behaviour if against their rules!).

The Buur Pit does it on a regular basis.

It was an account written by one of the admins at the time explaining why they'd just had to tighten up the rules.

If you really want to play PvP, come to San Tu and try organised wingfights. Tell me if you need invites to the relevant discord servers.
The meta is absolutely not boring BTW.

P.S. bring the biggest heap of credits you can lay your hand on. :)

That sounds like a prime opportunity for a PvP zone where everyone gets flagged. Could make thise dynamic, static, tie it to events etc.

How many times? 🤦‍♀️

Open is consent to interact. It is not consent to PvP.

The only mode that forbids PvP is Solo, and your arrogant pushing of every single player who doesn't want non-consensual PvP to occur into Solo is precisely why you lose the argument completely, and why it's a game design problem that it is FD's responsibility to fix. It stops people "playing the game their way".
