To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Does anyone who got destroyed by another player has contacted with SPEAR for punishment those player? If yes, could you share your experience please
SPEAR know who most of their targets are regardless of reports from players. Problem you will find is that most of the PVP community relish fights with SPEAR and actively seek out encounters with them. Nearly Every CG will have these encounters. Skill wise my moneys on the PVP community after watching hours and hours of 1v1's and wing fights between them.

Also just on another note most people engaging in any form of regular PVP go through many Re - buys a week so getting shot at by SPEAR is unlikely to spoil their day. I was watching a guy on Twitch the other day having some fun with SPEAR wings. I think at least 4 of the 6 participants bought a couple of rebuys.

SPEAR is relatively useful in CGs because they distract gankers, so that traders can fly mostly unharmed. I don't think they do special retaliation for a killed cmdr. If you want to have a specific cmdr killed and know that is was you who triggered this... There are groups/squadrons out there that will do this job for a payment.

I'm under the impression that a lot of people, including myself, prefer to play Solo mode all the time, not because we don't want to play with others, but simply because we don't want to PVP others.

For comparison, let me talk to you about of one of the worst launches in recent years, Fallout 76, which to the surprise of some has actually redeemed itself (at least to some extent), but owes it survival to its community, which stood during awful first year fo the game, but also a community that confused Bethesda because the devs were convinced their players wanted more PVP... and they were proven wrong, best depicted through many of the ironic headlines that gaming journalism used to deliver the "shocking" revelation:

Bethesda Didn’t Get Why ‘Fallout 76’ Players Wouldn’t Kill Each Other

Bethesda Apparently Shocked People Didn't Like PvP in 'Fallout 76'

Bethesda Surprised By How Many Fallout 76 Players Didn't Want to PvP

Bethesda was surprised how uninterested players were in Fallout 76's PvP

Bethesda got confused that Fallout 76 players don’t murder each other

Why is everyone being so nice?

Don't misunderstand: Fallout 76 do had (still has to a small degree) griefers and gankers, but the vast majority of players simply preferred not to engage in PVP.

Keeping things short, today many of the ways to engage into PVP have been disabled, pacifist mode is a menu option that makes it almost impossible to engage in PVP, and while the game's reputation will forever be tarnished by its launch, its actually in a better than many people expected (which can't be said for games like EA's Anthem, which already threw the towel and cancelled further development). It still is no substitute for a proper Fallout 5, but as a casual time waster with a Fallout theme: it's passable.

Back to Elite Dangerous, I think a lot more people would like to try playing in Open Play with random strangers in Elite if they had the choice to opt out from PVP, like having an aforementioned pacifist mode that disabled PVP interactions.

But that's just my impression, and I would like to hear what other thinks on this matter:

Do you think that Open Play would be negatively affected if PVP could be disabled?

Do you think Elite could benefit from having more people try to play & cooperate with others in Open Play?
It's not just the PVP mode that deters me from open play it's the extreme toxicity and bullying I receive from other players when i first tried Open play in elite. Now I will never be in open and will only play Solo...

I actually fired up the game last night and played for a bit. I was curious about what eye candy changes (if any) had been added to Oddity. Spent a couple of hours trying to remember how to fly/fight in this game. Got used to a F/A-18.

No crashes, and a slight bit of stuttering during the 'warp' scene.

Saw a planet with lots of colors on it. It even had some little green things waving in the breeze(?) The 'warp' graphics are better, and I like the fact that they did away with the silly 'bright lights' that were supposed to represent other ships.

Saw one open square (I was in Mobius), but it quickly disappeared as I approached.

I may have to fire up Horizons just to see what, if anything, was done to it.

I can see this. Any time I'm in Deciat or occasionally Shinrarta Dezhra and make the mistake of accidentally turning on the system chat, some of the stuff I've read in there is fairly sickening. Certainly turns me off wanting to "share a galaxy" with those chodes.

Better have backups for your controll settings. Jumping from Odyssey back to Horizons tends to eat up your controll bindings.

IMO the AI is more of an autopilot than a personality. I'd actually prefer APs - Artificial Persons.

This, or the illusion of it, should be the entire goal of having NPCs around.

Unfortunately, this game makes them just another resource to be farmed. There are some token attempts to give them character, but the depth is non-existent.

Many of the people in system chat aren't in Open, but you're sharing the galaxy, albeit abstractly, with them regardless.

In a word - Yes. (please). I would love a NO PVP mode!

I have them backed up but I would be switching several times through a night. what I have noticed is it defaults to the Saitek profile and I just have to reselect custom. I've not had to copy my backups in at any time since I installed Ody just after update 8. I did have to re edit my graphics setting.xml for the field of view i required.

If people buy a game where there is pvp and complain that they don't want pvp, even though they have 2 other modes that allow not having pvp they should consider if they are playing the right game.
If they pick the wrong mode, certainly.

However the same can be said of those who bought a game where all players affect the mode shared galaxy and no player requires to engage in PvP to engage in any game feature (apart from CQC) who then complain about players in Solo and Private Groups affecting "their" game and / or demand that game features be made Open only....

Perhaps peoples expectations for what is PVP are flawed. Maybe people think it will mean someone doing pirate stuff (arr) on them, or someone bounty hunting them after doing nasty things, or maybe fighting on other side of war. What they do not understand is that most of it is random psycho attack (ship go boom lol) without any ingame reason.

So can SPEAR check system for persons who can destroy players for fun in open play and try to fight with them while other players with explore data came to station?
