To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Indeed, can I say it is a BAD DESIGN?
I think it's great design, and one of the main reasons I bought the game. None of the features are pvp oriented. Powerplay and BGS are directly influenced through PvE activities. The game just wasn't designed as a PvP game. It's just something you can voluntarily engage in.

You don't like it. Perhaps the game isn't for you.

You're talking on something you don't know: join a powerplay group for years and then come back talking.
We're talking about a feature that was implemented in all three game modes and that some players (but not all players) play as if it is a feature that requires opposing players to be available to be shot at (even though it does not). Any frustration due to playing a game feature in a way that it is not designed to accommodate, i.e. it does not force players engaged in the feature to play in the same game mode, is due to that..
Indeed, can I say it is a BAD DESIGN?
Of course - however in exactly which way it is bad is also a matter of opinion. Some may insist that the the "bad" bit is that players in modes other than Open can affect the feature; others may look at the ability to 5C itself as the culprit.

Using an Official and Game Feature for its Intended Purpose is not an Exploit.
An Exploit is when you use a Game Feature in a way that was not Intended and thus gain an advantage or effect which you were not supposed to get.

Solo Play is a Feature allowing Players to Play Elite in their own Instances without other Players. Thats the Intended and Official use of that Feature. And thus there is no Exploit Involved.

Just because you dont like a Feature does not mean its an Exploit.

On the Original Topic.

Yes. If I could DIsable PvP I would actually Play in Open alot more.
After all it would add to the Ambiente and Feel of the Game if there was other Players around.

Reason I dont Play open is because its annoying if Players you meet are basicly mostly Enemies that want to kill you.
If I want to Play PvP I dont play Open World Games. I go for a PvP Game.

I'm under the impression that a lot of people, including myself, prefer to play Solo mode all the time, not because we don't want to play with others, but simply because we don't want to PVP others.

For comparison, let me talk to you about of one of the worst launches in recent years, Fallout 76, which to the surprise of some has actually redeemed itself (at least to some extent), but owes it survival to its community, which stood during awful first year fo the game, but also a community that confused Bethesda because the devs were convinced their players wanted more PVP... and they were proven wrong, best depicted through many of the ironic headlines that gaming journalism used to deliver the "shocking" revelation:

Bethesda Didn’t Get Why ‘Fallout 76’ Players Wouldn’t Kill Each Other

Bethesda Apparently Shocked People Didn't Like PvP in 'Fallout 76'

Bethesda Surprised By How Many Fallout 76 Players Didn't Want to PvP

Bethesda was surprised how uninterested players were in Fallout 76's PvP

Bethesda got confused that Fallout 76 players don’t murder each other

Why is everyone being so nice?

Don't misunderstand: Fallout 76 do had (still has to a small degree) griefers and gankers, but the vast majority of players simply preferred not to engage in PVP.

Keeping things short, today many of the ways to engage into PVP have been disabled, pacifist mode is a menu option that makes it almost impossible to engage in PVP, and while the game's reputation will forever be tarnished by its launch, its actually in a better than many people expected (which can't be said for games like EA's Anthem, which already threw the towel and cancelled further development). It still is no substitute for a proper Fallout 5, but as a casual time waster with a Fallout theme: it's passable.

Back to Elite Dangerous, I think a lot more people would like to try playing in Open Play with random strangers in Elite if they had the choice to opt out from PVP, like having an aforementioned pacifist mode that disabled PVP interactions.

But that's just my impression, and I would like to hear what other thinks on this matter:

Do you think that Open Play would be negatively affected if PVP could be disabled?

Do you think Elite could benefit from having more people try to play & cooperate with others in Open Play?
Totally agree

Why not just add Open-no PvP as a new game mode and keep open and solo exactly as they are? The open players will mostly stay in open and many of the solo players would move to Open-no PvP. Seems like a simple solution that most players would be happy with.
for the same reason I might ask why just not remove solo then? Open-no PvP will not be "open"

Cue the bogus arguments of players who do not understand how the game works or those who just try to troll others with their agenda.

In the opinion of some, certainly - however not liking something does not make it an exploit. The apparent reason for the dislike is that players don't need to make themselves available to be shot at by other players who wish to engage them in entirely optional PvP while engaging in game features.
Where I did say there's the need to shoot who's doing 5C?

Well that is a problem only if your logic is: "there is some activity I don't like, shoot it".

To my experience: the situations that require "shooting & kabooming" represent an almost unrelevant percentage vs. the situations that may be resolved by some kind of diplomatic contact and/or by cooperation between player groups.

Again, this is where most of the replies I see here are missing the point: open does not means PvP or being shot down every time by visiting systems here or there. Of course, we all know what happens at the CG/Deciat/Shinrarta/Sol etc... because of the high traffic etc.and that +traffic >>> +risk of being shot down, 99% of the times completely de-linked by what is happening for BGS/PP in those systems.
