Am I the only one bothered by the whole "switch to Solo before entering CG" meta?

I mean I know it's a perfectly valid option as per the GM, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be bothered by it.

Why don't more people offer practical advice on how to survive a CG in Open, instead of copy-pasting "Go to Solo"? I mean yeah, it means more armour & shields for less cargo, but...

Isn't that why we have such modules like hull reinforcements?

A Type-6 can easily fit two C5 racks, C4 shield. That leaves four slots for defensive modules. That's two HRP, an MRP & an SCB.

And you still get 64 tonnes of cargo. That isn't useless.

I think this is so multi-faceted that no one answer will summarize.

However, I'd say that if more people pirated as you do, rather than simply seeking to destroy, more people would visit the CGs in open.

The best way to show and/or encourage traders to play in open is it play in open and show what a good time you’re having.

Oh it's true, there needs to be a culture shift from everyone, not just traders.

Sadly I'm not surprised.

This is how the trench lines got drawn in the first place IMO.

Has it occured to you that the advice I offer to traders would, assuming advice adoption, make things harder for me as a pirate, and easier for the trader?

Or does it bother you that the flying cargo rack build isn't viable for friendly competition... That I might be better than you at building ships?

I literally said in my OP that Solo is valid. However, I'm also an advocate of the alternative option: Become a better CMDR and succeed against active competition.

Hillarious

No matter how you try the same old pitch - it's still the same.

My shipbuilding skills are adequate for my needs, thank you.

I am reasonably competent at PvP when/if I choose to do so, but I feel no obligation to do so at anyone else's invitation/insistence or sales pitch to stroke my own ego by being your or anyone else's entertainment. I have flow with and against some rather infamous CMDR's in the past and have nothing to prove to myself or anyone else.

I have no need of becoming "a better CMDR" just so you can have more entertainment.

Good luck - maybe others will take the bait

It was at this point GJ51 stopped building their forum trench and started work on a forum maginot line.

If it's a lost cause with you, why are you posting here?

Anyway I really hope Frontier takes PowerPlay from Solo. Seriously. Honestly, here I am saying that Open is not a death sentence, and I get this.

Time to close the thread.

I think the only ones bothered are from reading the 15264th (did anyone keep count?) "Why don't you play in Open so I or others can kill you?" Thread.

Let's face it, there's several perfectly valid approaches to CGs:
- embrace it and "git gud" by employing Assets/Engineering and Credits for any rebuiys
- not quite embrace but endure it (i.e. try to "git lucky" and sneak by or evade as good as possible)
- avoid it that's just not your thing #1 (i.e. make a 20LY circle around any CG area in Open - and don't Sign Up for a CG)
- embrace the CG PvE/Co-Op style instead (i.e. do the CG in Mobius Group, focus is on Social get-together with other Players and CG progression)
- grind it like there's no tomorrow (i.e. do the CG in Solo Mode, total focus on maximum CG progression; only the numbers count, other Players only detract from it/are of no benefit)

Plenty of valid choices, all suiting personal preferences and priorities.
Funny though, that only (exclusively) Open Play/PvP Players keep and keep and keep and keep and (insert STRING{keep} x 1.26*10E14) asking "Why don't you do as I do?".
Despite that very question having been answered like 15264 (now 15265) times already.
Just sayin'... (this really sticks out by now, like there's something seriously wrong with some people)

PS.
I did my last CG entirely in Open for what it's worth. Did that matter for the CG progression? No. Not one bit. In fact, the CG didn't care. It made no difference, simple as that.

I play in Open unless the servers are borked.

But I support letting others play ED any way they like

because

That's what FD told them they would be able to do when they decided to buy ED

I don't need to be told how I need to play ED the way someone else thinks I should play once again

This horse is dead - let him RIP

Just because FD wants to renig on 4 years of established policy, it doesn't make it right or fair to others who bought ED under what may now turn out to be false premises.

I have every right not to "play it your way" and so does everyone else.

If you don't like or want my or anyone else's opinion, you shouldn't start a thread.
