Too many buttons presses

DNA, it's not that hard.

The signals on the tuning chart show you what's left to discover in the system. On the far left are signal sources, then things like conflict zones, then moons, different types of planets, and finally gas giants will show up further right.

Let's say you are zoomed out and tuned to signal sources, but there is a planet at the signal source pulse. First tune to the planet, discover it, then tune to the signal sources, then discover them. There are occasions where signals will overlay each other and make it a little difficult to zoom in, and in those cases you just have to fiddle with it.

By the time you've fully scanned a couple of systems, you will be able to do it with your eyes closed.

As for the spinning scan meter, I think it just is what it is - a constant, passive scan of the body.

I see, so if we like this patch we are a "white knight" a term that you seem to use derogatorily. And yet if someone happens to agree with you then that group is classified as "everyone hates the discovery scanner changes".

People have different opinions. No need to label and attempt to insult them simply because you have a different view.

I am certain there are players in both camps. But you have zero evidence of the numbers involved. And your attempts to whitewash the situation by making wild claims about how the whole player base feels is at best disingenuous and at worst petty and entitled.

So to use your vernacular.. I'm proudly white knighting this upgrade.

Oh that's typical - if you disagree, you are against me! logic.

+1 on this "white knight". Latest changes are amazing and something I wished for in ED for a long time.

I like games with lots of controls, i have a keyboard, so i am not complaining, although, i think elite is kinda pushing the limits of 'lots', lol. What i am curious about is how do people on consoles manage with just 2 sticks, a dpad and 8ish buttons, it must be a nightmare?

Lots of wheel menus, I think.

I don't mind wheel menus, but playing elite on a controller must be hell. Then again, my wingmate plays on an Xbox controller, so...

I have been playing a long time and use an x52 ,To access the side panels I would use head look to look at each panel by using the finger hat on the throttle and had done his for years until a few days ago it occurred to me that I could use the clutch and the same hat switch to shoot to the panels instantly by simply setting each panel to up down left right.

Years I did it the stupid way....... Years.

There is always an easier way and this is made possible with the plethora of options in the binding menu ,great stuff FDev.

This game is nothing compared to hardcore sims. Go play IL-2 Sturmovik and spend a couple weeks learning how to take off and land; or Jane's AH-64D Apache Longbow where every key did literally 4 things, AND it required a stick. Even the Mechwarrior games usually have more controls than Elite.

Plus, Elite can be bound to just about anything you can attach to your system. I wanted to use a Roccat powergrid on my old Samsung S3 because it's cool, but I actually didn't need the extra buttons.

3 Hours and I'm not sure I'm configured very well.

It just seems like a lot of time to try and figure this out.

I did watch the videos, but watching someone so it quickly and smoothly doesn't help.
You need someone to go through and show all the stuff up[s and "oh you can't do this because that"
Now I just wish I had a list of:
Yeah don't set up that way - because later when you get jumped in combat you're going to need blah blah.

Scratches head.
3 hours, lets go have some lunch.

My biggest wish is that the input feedback was more clear in the settings page, though by this point I could rebind the entire HOTAS and keyboard from scratch in about ten minutes. That's the first thing I do in any game, go and mess around in the options. I would like the game to differentiate between Button3 on the throttle and Button3 on the stick.
