Newcomer / Intro Total noob but need help

So I just started today and well first off I had no idea how to complete the first simple delivery mission, could not find any info and the game only told me to complete it even though I was at the destination...I abandoned it and dumped the cargo. I was in Macarthur Terminal.
Picked up a new mission from MT and headed out...destination was unreachable with my small fuel hold...abandoned the mission, and decided to shoot at Macarthur Terminal. thus I was destroyed.
Now I can not except any delivery missions for obvious reasons... went to various stations and such and all I was allowed to do were fighting missions...so be it.

First off How do I complete a mission? I figured I land at the destination, click to mission and then accept delivery...that was not an option.

Next, is there any way to start over fresh... like a new character or such so I can try to get delivery missions again instead of kill missions or Merc ones...Just haven't the skill for those yet.

There should be an option in the starting menu to erase your save and so start with a clean slate. When you get into a new ship, go to the navigation page of the galaxy manual and see what your max distance with a full cargo hold is; it defaults to an empty hold and you wouldn't be the first to be caught with a mission which is out of reach.

I defer to other on restarting / clean saves. As for the mission, At your Destination Station, open up the Bulletin Board again (Station Services). Redeem it there - it will be at the top of the postings listed. Click on it, then "give".

No problem, and I don't mind helping.

First of all, if you haven't done anything yet, I would clear your save file (Main Menu > Options > Clear Save). While I would normally advise against it if you've got any progress at all, in this case it surely can't hinder you. You'll start off in your Sidewinder with the starting amount of money again, possibly at a new station.

Now, the thing with this game is, it definitely doesn't hold your hand. I mean nothing by this towards you, so please don't take it that way. I skipped out on two Beta phases due to things going on in my personal life, came back, and my starting station had absolutely nothing available on the bulletin board. With 1,000 credits, there wasn't much that I could trade, and so it was pretty frustrating. If you feel that way, just take a deep breath and go at it again - beating the system and "winning" by finding your way is an awesome feeling to have!

So, how do you complete missions? That, my friend is entirely dependent upon which missions you're able to accept. Most stations don't feel bad at all about handing a new pilot a mission to go kill a notorious VIP for a ton of money, even though they KNOW that you're not going to succeed with your ship and outfit, lol. The best bet would to be look for "delivery" missions - these are missions that tell you "hey, go take XYZ item to ABC place. They'll pay you there". You can always tell if it's delivery by looking at the details of the mission, and it should say "4 cargo space required", or some variant (sometimes it's just data, in which case you don't use any cargo space on the mission). If you have room left over, you can buy something from the starting station to sell at the destination. Be a bit careful about this, as trading can be profitable, but not if you're paying attention. It's always best to grab something where the "BUY" price is under the "Galactic Average" that is exported to the system that you're going to (click "galactic average", choose the system you're heading to, and it will now tell you what is imported/exported between these two systems). You may want to buy the trade data for that system from the Galaxy Map, or just visit the station once to get it yourself (it's fresh for 24 hours, then you either have to visit there again or buy it).

Ok one problem with clean save... I do not see that .

I go to Options. My choices are Graphics, Audio, Controls...I click Controls...I see all kinds of things but nothing about a clean save

Are you inside the game (as in, did you hit "escape" while sitting in a dock somewhere), or are you at the game's main menu (with the planet and starport spinning)? You have to do it from the main menu, "logged out" of the game.

No problem ;-) The controls are a bit confusing the first time around. Hell, I'm still too scared to mess with anything other than hotkeys and graphics ;-)

One more point about delivery missions you should know is that they usually have a time limit on them. Make sure you have enough time to complete the mission. If you fail to complete a mission in time you will not get the option to deliver the cargo when you enter the Bulletin board. You wont Be able to sell the cargo in the commodities market either as it will now be logged as stolen. If the station has a black market you will be able to sell it there. If you have no black market at the station and you decide to risk finding another station with a black market, then be aware that your ship may well be scanned by the system authority vessels and you will receive a fine for carrying stolen cargo. If you don't want the hassle of flying around with stolen cargo then you can always dump it into space when you are well clear of any stations.

Just go to the Bulletin board on the destination station and completable missions will be listed. Click on the mission and you will have the option to give good or message or whatever.
