Trailblazer Echo - Universal Cartographics lockdown

Myself and some squad mates have gone into a couple of these Pirate Threat Level 7 sites and engaged some of the pirates. We had brought 2 fully engineered Federal Corvettes, 1 fully engineered Anaconda and 1 fully engineered Krait Mk 2.

We targeted and engaged these pirate ships one at a time, and we choose to attack each ship singley. Meaning we choose to NOT attack pirates that were in a wing

We chose one target, then closed to a range of about 1km then all fired at once. It took almost a full minute and a half of constant Multicannon, Laser fire to cut thru their shields and almost another 2 min of firing to bring their hull to zero

I don't know what they had for shields but it was more powerful than what I have seen in this game. Where do I get those kind of shields.
Probably prismatics I'd guess but depends how you've engineered your weapons if they were tough to get through.

The other thing to watch for is chaff throwing off gimballed weapons. Dropping target lock while the chaff is dropping can help if you can stay on target but it takes practice.

The other that helps is aulticannon with corrosive rounds to help cut through armour once those shields are dropped.

I have a corvette heavily engineered along those lines and was having decent success in a threat 5 solo other than a buddy in my fighter last night.

I'm docked with my DBX full of exploration data at TB Echo. If I decide to go pirate hunting with a different ship, does the data come with me or stay on the DBX?

On the other hand, if we stand by and do nothing, we only get a fraction of what we could have won. I clocked up another 5M in brewer bounties last night. Will try and keep ticking them down over the next few days o7

Engineering. And 3.5 minutes of fire from a full wing is well below the defences a player ship can get that way, because even then they're not hyper-optimised.

You want higher-damage weapons to go after them efficiently: frag cannons, railguns (with feedback cascade experimental to stop their SCBs), plasma accelerators, that sort of thing. Lasers and multicannons are for picking off the normal weak pirates.

Disappointed yet again with FDev, sure I handed my exploration data in a week ago so I will be fine but I feel for those that went out to collect more or didnt realise this event was running till it was too late - I mean FDev extended the duration of the event to allow more people to contribute and what has actually happened is that a group of players are left with their time wasted by other players. This may well be intended, it is also fundamentally illogical as some of those players whos time is being wasted will just go play another game (I know so many people who used to play ED and drifted away because of the games sharp edges). FDev might think narrowly missing out on something means people will try harder next time, what they dont get is that ED is not a job for the players like it is for them, narrowly missing out on something is an excellent reason to just not log in tomorrow, or the next day and after two weeks ish the habit is broken and you dont log in for months/years if ever. Community goals should be there to unite the community and give people reasons to play, not the opposite.

So all CG's should be rigged to the outcome you prefer?

Well, it's a take for sure.

More likely fdev will do what they have done before when people look like they might lose out due to unintended circumstances, and stock the module for unlock somewhere.

🤷‍♂️

Obviously not, there is no reason to intentionally misunderstand what I said, unless of course you are just trying to be toxic? Let me be crystal clear, CG's should sometimes fail but it should be because people dont want to contribute rather than because someone prevents them from taking part. Assuming people playing a game enjoy having their time wasted simply for the sake of it by others is illogical, imagine yourself sitting in Trailblazer Echo with days of exploration data, unable to hand it in (and unable to bounty hunt for fear of losing it all)? You may find that idea fun, most people wont, and if you think about it you will understand why pretty quickly.

I actually didnt propose a solution, but pointed out that the situation will disengage, again. I suspect FDev are as disappointed as the group of people who's time will be wasted as they want people to enjoy the game - yes they could have implemented CGs better but they have a history of thinking people engage with long grinds/negative-experiences. I have been playing since release and, in all honesty, I use FDev far more often to illustrate mistakes to people I talk to than anything else. Sure I get the subtext here that the real CG is not the CG as stated (to hand in expo data) but the hidden CG of handing in bounties to allow that data to be handed in - I just suspect it disengages far more than it engages with the minority who get burned by it. Thats my fundamental point, game design should allow most to have fun and the rest to have a neutral experience with a few having a negative experience but by choice (e.g. choosing to try something and failing hard) what turns that into bad game design is having a random group forced to have a negative experience due to things outside their control (e.g. bugs, random chance, other players getting in the way for the hell of it).

This is a long thread and I haven’t been keeping up but what’s been going through my mind is that player action to reverse the lockdown would have to be an incredibly altruistic act. The folks who're invested in the CG and have data they want to turn in won’t be doing bounty hunting because they have a lot to lose. The folks who’re invested in the CG and have already turned in their data stand to fall down the rankings if they work to undo the lockdown. So I’d have thought that anyone else who’s bounty hunting in this system must be a flippin' saint (or roleplaying one) to do so?

...or simply po'ed. This was completely unecessary, a day or two more then it would have been over. People would have gotten their rewards and be happy. Spoil that ending will you? Then fine, we'll spoil yours 😡

Nothing altruistic about it at all 🤷‍♂️

I handed in a lot of data early, and am still in the top 25%. So now I'm enjoying the bounty hunting. Although having handed in about a 100m in bounties, I haven't seen much change in the lockdown. Of course I switched from the Mandalay to a battle conda. Which ever way it goes, I will have earned more in bounties than with the cg.

That's because a lockdown-state has a minimum timer of 3 days. It's far longer if no-one is doing anything to counter it, of course.

Today was the earliest the lockdown could have been lifted, but I guess the random infrastructure failure event reduced the effectiveness of dropping bounties, so the fight goes on.

Would be funny if this drags on for even longer, and Frontier reacts by extending the CG for another week.

I looked earlier at the system news under services, it was showing the bounties handed in last 24 hours and bounties given in same period, the bounties handed out at that point were still higher than ones handed in, so does seem others are working to keep the system in lockdown.

We think this isn't true anymore, actually. Remlock and Nova both say so, sure, but they predate the 2018 BGS rework. We think it's 1 day minimum now.

I had my info from a random reddit post from 2020, of course that's not really that much better than "we think". :)

Still, it would be interesting to see the stats of what players are doing right now in the system, and of how much the sudden negative random event influenced things.

Considering how tiny the system is, and how people have been doing lots of bounty hunting, my best guess is that it must be 3 days minimum, or a lot of players actively working to extend the lockdown. Though I think lockdowns also have a maximum time that's going to run out in a few days, which would make the effort to stop the CG from completing completely useless.
