True of my chest, how I really feel about Odyssey. Some sort of open letter

Are you my mommy instead? ;)

Management coaches? They say those that can. do. Those that can't, teach. That's how I feel about business coaches and management consultants. Frontier Developments have accredited Quality Management Systems, to ISO9001 standards. They have a QA department that is now recruiting if you think such coaches should apply: https://www.frontier.co.uk/job-categories/quality-assurance

"Quality Assurance is integral to the success of any game development project. At Frontier Developments we strive to hire the most talented and passionate QA testers to staff our flexible, cross project department. We work with a large variety of technology and put an emphasis on QA-developer collaboration."

That's a very long sentence to say "players", but it's sort of nice to be acknowledged.

Here's the thing, OP - a lot of people are having a really fun time with Odyssey. I am one of them.

Maybe it's my PC. My old one keeled over earlier this year and I had to buy a new one, so I got a forced upgrade.

Maybe it's my playstyle. I enjoy space murder, and have no desire to fly 14,000 Ly to gawk at some pretty light in the sky. And I'm not a progression grinder.

But I really like the additional layer of activity and gameplay that Odyssey offers, and I haven't encountered too many situations that tanked my PC (matter of fact, the only one I did encounter was in my ship in some ice rings).

There are bugs and poor design decisions. That is undeniable. The bugs are understandable, the poor design decisions are mind-boggling. And while I can be patient with the "new" stuff, the gameplay breaking bugs that have been left in the game for years are the ones that really grind my gears at the moment. Frontier treating us like children with their condescending "roadmap" certainly doesn't help my opinion any.

But I'm still enjoying playing the game. I refuse to give Frontier any more money until they fix it, but I'm still enjoying what is there for now.

Tons of people have lots of fun with so many Early Access games. There is nothing wrong with that. I play Star Citizen and I enjoy it despite it being a complete buggy mess, very much an early access and possibly even a vaporware. But at least CIG is honest about all that - the game is NOT COMPLETE.

FDev??? they sold us a half baked and botched DLC with big promises and big words (i.e ARMSTRONG MOMENT) but nothing to show for it. To this day, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that Odyssey is still in Alpha and continue to sell it as a complete and finished product.

and to make matter worse, they released something they call a "road-map" which is the biggest joke I've ever seen since Odyssey.

Lots of good points, generally I'd say it's one of the more sensible posts on Odyssey, even though you never played it.
But just to keep it fair, this never happened:

The only thing that differs from the game they promised and the game they delivered is performance. That's it. While other criticism of the game might be justified, the 'what they sold and what we got' argument is purely about performance.
I might be wrong here but I was talking about them not using the full planetary tech, all the weapons, the full map, ...

The biggest joke is that some people are still defending them after all the lies and bait and switching, and will continue to blindly trust them. Fools and their money, and all that...

Was it the management? Was it the devs? I don't know, only people who worked on Odyssey know that.
It’s always management, they make the call, based on feedback from the developers. With that in mind there are two scenarios.

A) They was told it was bad and released it anyway.
B) They was told it was ok for release and continued to release it.

Everything else is just a variation of the two.

Oh no doubt. Don't think for a second I am white knighting here. As much as I am enjoying what does work, I am furious at FD for what doesn't work and what is missing altogether.

They have a lot of work to do if they are going to regain my trust, and access to my wallet.
