So another lost customer. FDEV management and marketing should care about economical lossesJust another critique from someone who didn't play the alpha and didn't buy the game.
I always thought you reminded me of one of that two characters...
Many coffee and much sugar improvements."We're gonna do some stuff and what-not."
With all due respect but what do you mean, could you explain? No offence, I'm just confused. xDAnd yet another rant from someone with a May '21 forum account. There's a pattern emerging...
FD take QA seriously? Well... You sure have fooled me! I haven't seen much evidence of that in the 6 years I've been playing ED. Sure, if QA is a priority, it's just under coffee cup recycling or something similar on their priority list.Management coaches? They say those that can. do. Those that can't, teach. That's how I feel about business coaches and management consultants. Frontier Developments have accredited Quality Management Systems, to ISO9001 standards. They have a QA department that is now recruiting if you think such coaches should apply: https://www.frontier.co.uk/job-categories/quality-assurance
"Quality Assurance is integral to the success of any game development project. At Frontier Developments we strive to hire the most talented and passionate QA testers to staff our flexible, cross project department. We work with a large variety of technology and put an emphasis on QA-developer collaboration."
He isn't factoring in that the point that the point of EDO (in FDs eyes) is to draw in new blood by launching EDO as a FPS game. If successful, there would be a bolus of new forum accounts around the EDO launch date. With all due respect but what do you mean, could you explain? No offence, I'm just confused. xD
Sure! Can I add peanut butter sandwiches too pleasecan i add small seismic charges to this open letter please.
Well if he thinks I am trolling, I can assure you I am not. I'm not a new player or at least not that new. I have 502 hours playtime in Elite Dangerous and I bought and started played the game on 29 August 2019. And yes everything I said in my post I 100% mean. I just didn't care for the forums before that, since I was mostly active on the Reddit. He isn't factoring in that the point that the point of EDO (in FDs eyes) is to draw in new blood by launching EDO as a FPS game. If successful, there would be a bolus of new forum accounts around the EDO launch date.
Backstory: If you are new to the Elite Dangerous Community, you may not realise that it's predominantly a particular set of middle aged people that have been into Elite since the 1980s. FD are hoping that by Pushing EDO as a FPS, it will give the game 'new blood' and if FD get their wish, will swell the player base (and there profits) with FPS orientated players. The dinosaurs like me are seen as 'expendable' in the name of corporate growth, there are far more people into pew pew based game play that exploration.
In short, he suspects that you are trolling the forum specifically to undermine FD and it's aims to redirect Elite into the lucrative FPS market, by bad mouthing EDO. He is having a good time so why isn't everybody else happy with EDO?
Totally agreed. I have some experience in IT managements, and from my point it looks like FD fail entire QA process - part of defects appears in old functionality, and this means they didn't even complete regression testing to ensure stability of old functions.FD take QA seriously? Well... You sure have fooled me! I haven't seen much evidence of that in the 6 years I've been playing ED. Sure, if QA is a priority, it's just under coffee cup recycling or something similar on their priority list.
The QA department seems to have an entirely different set of definitions to anything I understand from the term QA. "Quality Assurance is integral to the success of any game development project". Maybe they need to take those words a little more to heart because that sure as Hell isn't the model I see from ED.
First get me my coffee machine ingame - the peanut butter sandwich can come laterSure! Can I add peanut butter sandwiches too pleasemust be crunchy peanut butter though!
Well said! This is lovely and such but the fact that you do not have the game kind of kills it.
I also don't have the game. I had planned to get the game on release after a quick check that it wasn't a huge problem. And, well, I don't know if it actually does qualify for that or not. But other games have released, I got other things, and coming back to it, the launch has not been 100%. In any event, I have not written a big treatise on the game and weighed in on what a letdown or not that it is, because, I do not have the game.
I'll tell you something though
There is no Panther Clipper
There is no new ships
There is no new SRV?
There is no big new content/lore stuff
I'm not sure if they aren't planning on releasing a DLC or actually releasing another title (seems impossible), but I honestly think they might be angling for a "soft-relaunch" or pseudo-relaunch of Odyssey itself, NMS-style.
I think they knew it wasn't going to be ready. I think they took out all the juicy bits and put the game out to play for time and maybe (hopefully) get some boost money.
I think they're going to relaunch the game later with all the coolest stuff that was hinted at/expected but not actually in right now. Not ship interiors of course that's still down that there lineabouts.
