It may be more than a bit early to ask, but when colonization comes out, would it be preferable to colonize systems in the name of the dark wheel? asking so I can mark out systems before the rat race begins

I don't see any issue with expanding The Dark Wheel into newly colonized systems and going places that are interesting, be it tinfoil or just for pretty.

Currently we are not planning any colonization targets/steps and associated expansions to those systems until we know more about what exactly it will take and what the limitations are, mainly to reduce planning rework.

Project Status:
Hello Commanders! Our BGS is still being affected by PowerPlay 2.0 but also some Deus-Ex-Machina in the form of FDev meddling. Our expansion has been frozen for several days longer than usual and reports from other BGS groups are indicating the same. The major bit of meddling has of course been the movement of the Thargoid Titan into Sol system and the invasion of many systems nearby. So far we have avoided direct invasions in our systems but Ross 154 is appearing in Inara’s Thargoid War stats and there are several systems uncomfortably close to systems with Thargoid presence. Expect hyperdictions when travelling anywhere close to Sol.
Items of note:

Expansion state is apparently frozen. Attempt to keep TDW below 75% in places where we are high.
Retreats are not frozen but can be fixed with bounties. May need to break out the KWS on your bounty hunter ships to get some bounties for smaller factions.

TDW TLC systems and current INF, Boost to target 50% (unless otherwise specified):
(Boost these Retreat risk factions to ~10%. 7% might not be enough under current conditions!)

Lots of potential retreats:

Turning the Wheel remains in the final planned phase of the project. Our primary goals during this phase are to maintain the systems that The Dark Wheel controls for BGS stability and to expand TDW into neighboring systems. If a new system is free from other PMFs and/or PP issues, TDW will take ownership. If other PMFs occupy the system, we will seek an agreement to allow TDW to stay, be friendly, and not attempt to take control of the system. This is the “good neighbor” policy that has worked very well for the project thus far. TDW being present in many systems is in opposition to what the codex entry says. As TDW grows it is hoped that this will trigger “something” with respect to Felicity Farseer’s quote in the codex entry

Above all, we continue Turning the Wheel for the camaraderie that working together for a common goal brings

As always, if something pops up that “looks odd” see the General Remarks

Please remember:
  • Do NOT work for other factions in TDW systems, unless requested below
  • Do NOT hand in trade goods or cartography data to stations that we do not own
  • Do NOT hand in bounties for any faction other than TDW in our systems

Possible Next Expansion Trigger System:
TDW Missions for INF, Cartography Data and Trade Profits at TDW controlled stations, and Bounty Voucher turn ins are desired at:
Expansion under way and apparently locked.

Bounty Hunting:
Bounty hunting in any of our controlled systems (9 PUPPIS and/or ANYANWU Compromised Nav Beacons and/or Resource Extraction Sites in TDW controlled systems are great places to go)
Turn in TDW bounty vouchers earned in these locations:
Plenty of TDW retreat risk systems listed above. Bounties are apparently the most reliable way to prevent retreats.

General Missions & Passengers:
Note: Work Missions for INF in the following systems for the given faction
Keep an eye out for any non-natives getting too low in systems we control
Any TDW controlled system with less than 50% inf are good candidates to do TDW missions in, see “TDW TLC systems”

The preferred second faction in LTT5455 changed? It should be Leaders of LHS 369 that I put in place when GQ Virginis General Corporation retreated.

I changed it when we were not able to keep Leaders in the system, a PMF arrived that I thought was owned by one of the allies that I have diplomatic comms with but it seems another one has taken over ownership and it looks like they are wanting the #2 spot (so I should probably find contact info for them and say hello), no clue if that was the reason the retreat was not able to be stopped or if it was something else.

Note: Edited a couple of times for clarity because clearly I lose language skills while "typing while tired:

Yeah I wasn't too thrilled to see that retreat was just flat out not responding to being saved, happened just before the PP 2.0 update so I figured it was an odd one off.

But now that we are "now" and systems left right and center across the sectors I watch around TDW space as well as inside of TDW space are also having the same unstoppable retreat problems... I wonder if there was already "a problem" and the new grind is exposing/provoking it.

Wish that the stealth "no expansions right now" thing that seems to have happened would also cover retreats, just had the unfixable one in Wolf 629 run it's course...

Yeah not a great situation but hey.

I've spent the evening mulling over what the options are here. The feudals will have had at least some support from FRC (Hudson) & I hadn't paid much attention to the PPv2 changes but having systems under feudal or patronage control no longer matters to them so that'll be why Leaders of LHS 369 fell hard enough to retreat.
PPv2 also appears to have sparked a massive boom for all controlling factions which is great for expansions & of course will also be pushing any non-natives down, potentially into retreats. You (TDW) have a policy to not (officially) work on any other factions than TDW which is fair enough but leaves those feudals much more vulnerable to retreat (in FRC space which many of your systems are).

You can use your excellent diplomatic skills to negotiate with any factions that replace them over assets, system control & the order non-natives should be, and really my only issue is that ultimately I 'need' there to be a non-native in LTT 5455 you can eventually give the system back to once (if) your project is done.

Over the past few years that you have controlled LTT 5455 on permanent loan it has been a useful source of bounties and expansions for you. You (TDW) have also been an excellent neighbour & benign non-native in several systems in 'my' territory.

You also acted as a vital diplomatic bridge, providing me a contact with The Elite Fleet where in Legacy I am on PC & they are on PS4 so unable to instance together. That issue was quickly resolved once I had a way to communicate directly & they realised all their issues were just from me defending my territorial boundary & not a team of BGS mercs (as they had thought) working for some other faction they were engaged with & evidently claimed credit for my actions.

You (TDW) have also been more than accommodating to some of my friends working to create Anarchy Farms in my territory & elsewhere.

So rather than return to the bubble to 'sort things out myself' as I did back in early 2023 to put Leaders into LTT 5455 I think it's time for me to let go & just give LTT 5455 to TDW. If there ever comes a point where your project completes I'll just maintain TDW control & deal with whatever the other two non-natives are as needed.

Riv, we have certainly lived the "teamwork makes the dream work" over the past few years in and around your sector as well as with the many other friends and allies we have picked up along the way across all of TDW space.

I 100% thank you for officially handing over the reigns to LTT 5455 for good (of course neither of us thought it would ever go that route in the first place) and we will do our best to keep the place nice and tidy. I do not have plans to shut this project down anytime soon (having too much fun keeping this train rolling with everyone who is making the magic still happen), but if/when it looks like it is going come to a halt, I will let you know ahead of time for your planning purposes.

Greetings CMDRs! It looks like we have another week of fending off retreat states across TDW space, though there are quite a number that have improved and/or came off the list, all thanks to your actions! Expansions still appear to be frozen, so more on that later when there is something to say. There are a handful of conflicts to manage as well, but only two of them have my eyebrow raised. Speaking of conflicts, the Thargoids have been beaten back to only 3 invaded systems (as of writing this post). I will certainly be very happy to see them kicked out from our front garden very soon! Greetings CMDRs! Titan Cocijo has very limited time left in its corrosive existence orbiting Sol, be sure to get your punches in before it’s gone. PP 2.0 continues to be a BGS wrecking ball, especially in contested and fortifying systems. I gave the crystal ball a good polish and sorted the list of potential retreat systems/factions by priority (highest to lowest).

Merry Christmas and/or applicable wintertime holiday CMDRs! As expected, the caustic cauliflower incidents have stopped, and it looks like repairs to everything are well underway. I'm glad to see this particular chapter of the Thargoid War done and dusted, though I do expect that we will see more of them sooner than later. Looking at TDW space, I have mostly great news to report! Coelrind is pending conflict for control, this system was subject to PP 1.0 rules, but now that we are in PP 2.0, we can have TDW take ownership of the place. There are also other conflicts to manage, most are already heading the right way. Speaking of PP 2.0, it’s still wrecking the BGS in a few places and causing retreats, I gave that list in the section below a good scrub and prioritized them. Have fun out there CMDRs!

Items of note:

  • Expansion state is still frozen. Attempt to keep TDW below 75% in places where we are high.
  • Retreats are not frozen but can be fixed with bounties. May need to break out the KWS on your bounty hunter ships to get some bounties for smaller factions.

Happy New Year CMDRs! I hope everyone has been enjoying their end of year festivities! TDW space has something to celebrate, the ownership of Coelrind! Great job securing the victory there and looks like the INF levels are trending to where they should be. Looking around the rest of TDW space, I see a few conflicts, none of which look terribly out of the ordinary, and it appears that though the list is smaller, retreat prevention is still the name of the game for the BGS. We do still have the one active retreat, so keep your eyes on that one. All in all, it looks like a nice week. Have fun out there CMDRs!

Greetings CMDRs! Looks like the extensions cord for the expansion calculator got plugged back in, TDW has expanded into LFT 824, which is owed by the Minutemen who have been long running friends of the project. I’m rather expecting several expansions to end soon and then more to kick off as there are a couple of ours and everyone else in the bubble with super high INF courtesy of PP 2.0… Speaking of that, it appears the the grind has somewhat slowed and this has stemmed the tide of the retreat risks, they are still “a problem” but there are less of them, and that makes me happy. Looking around TDW space, the conflicts list is a little long, but only two really catch my eye. Looks like a nice week, have fun out there CMDRs!

Items of note:

The conflicts in LHS 3531 and LHS 417 are MUST WIN’s to avoid retreats for TDW.

Retreat Risk/Repair
(Boost these factions to ~10%. 7% might not be enough under current conditions!)
LHS 369 CIA 3.7%
Arque TDW 5.7% Outbreak

LHS 336 TDW 6.8%
Ross 154 BSAC 7.6% with Infrastructure Failure

Hello Commanders! As noted last orders, expansions are back on. We are already expanding again, most probably from Baker. It is important to keep our systems below 70 wherever possible so we have some degree of control on the next one! Better news on the retreat risk front however - there is only one of concern in LHS 3531 where TDW has caught an Infrastructure failure. There are plenty of conflicts to keep us busy otherwise.

Items of note:

Baker - TDW is too high. Drop slowly over the next few days but not too much.
86 Mu Herculis - TDW getting close to a control conflict. Boost back above 40%
Lave - TDW down around 10% again. Boost when able.

Retreat Risk/Repair
(Boost these factions to ~10%. 7% might not be enough under current conditions!)
LHS 3531 - TDW at 5.5 with Infrastructure Failure

Greetings CMDRs! TDW is currently in an election to take control of LHS 2429, since CIA is a dead PMF, this system is fair game, so be sure to stuff those ballot boxes! TDW is also currently expanding out of Baker, nothing required here except for waiting for the clock to tick down and see where TDW goes. I am cautiously optimistic that the bow wave of PP 2.0 has largely passed through TDW space, and while there is certainly quite a bit of PP activity, the list of potential retreats that we have been working quite hard to prevent has remained very short from over the weekend. What has not remained short is the conflicts list, which is understandable as many systems are bouncing back to more stable inf levels, so conflicts are a bit expected. That all said, I see things trending back to how things “should be” which makes for a less hectic and more relaxing time in TDW space. Have fun out there CMDRs!

Items of note:

LHS 2429 - TDW is in elections to take control of the system

86 Mu Herculis - TDW is still a bit too close for comfort here, boost back above 40% to avoid a challenge to control of the system

Ao - Expecting conflict, TDW to win, can boost to avoid

Jaunera - Expecting conflict, TDW to win, can boost to avoid

Lave - TDW down around 10% again. Boost when able

Retreat Risk/Repair
(Boost these factions to ~10%. 7% might not be enough under current conditions!)
HR 4979 - Alliance of CD-33 8748 3.9%
Yuqui - Baris Progressive Party 5.4%
LHS 369 - EFRC 5.8% (Friends of the project, we want them to stay)

(Watch these systems for retreat risks, if they go below 6.0%, Boost to ~10%)
Coelrind - Alliance Office of Statistics 7.7%

Also some TLC for TDW in:
