Guide / Tutorial TUTORIAL: How to Find Chemical Manipulators?

Hi everyone,

This is the third video in my Elite Dangerous Tutorial series, and will be showcasing the best method of finding Chemical Manipulators.

I've listened to a lot of your feedback regarding my previous videos and changed the format a little bit to streamline the key points of the video quicker, which I believe will be much more enjoyable to watch.

Please leave your constructive feedback as I will value every single opinion and try to make my videos better over time, so thank you in advance!

The better way without re-log exploit would be a RES site in an Anarchy system and killing mining NPC's. endless spawn, endless materials for ALL SORT of mats that drop from trade ships (conductive ceramics...etc), not getting wanted and "only" destroying reputation with local factions. But can be fixed with around 2 hours of bountyhunting there with kill warrant scanner. can also be done both at the same time to avoid negative reputation there and getting combat mats additional :D ;)

Hi all,

It looks like the rules have changed since this thread was started. First, you will never see "seeking weapons" in a warzone but even if you did a Type 9 will never drop Chemical Manipulators under any conditions.

Does anyone know the best way to acquire chemical manipulators now?

I have so far killed 20 or 25 T9s and can say they definitely drop Chemical Distillery on some occasions but will never drop Chemical Manipulator.

As an experiment i went into 50 USS in war zones (you get loads) had lots of fights and got 3x3 = chem man that were laying around.

I then tried killing 50 T9s mostly in convoys and got one drop of 1x3 chem man. So one evening got 12 goes at grade 5 fsd (I have over 80 arsenic etc as easy to get).

So rare and i want 20 more drops so 1,000 t9s need to die. Lakon get your production lines geared up because here I come war zones!

The method I used is so fast & simple it does not need a video:

1) Go to any system in "outbreak" system state (Galaxy Map, sort by System State).
2) Fly at least 750 LS from the system's primary star and search for USSs (Combat Aftermath?), it may take a couple of tries to find the right type as I do not remember.
3) Scoop up Chemical Manipulators. I used a Collector Limpet Controller and got 15 tons within 10 minutes of entering the system.

I did this within the last week. o7

Damn ..I tried and tried every state except outbreak today...I must have dropped in 20 USS's including Combat aftermath and weapons fired threat level 1-3 and found only 3 ...I'll try the outbreak systems tomorrow...thanks Cmdr JetsonRING o7

So after checking this thread last night, today I visit several systems in outbreak, finding USS Combat aftermath signals were like chickens teeth...everything but manipulators:( so I tried systems in famine, war and civil unrest...after 3 hours and about 40 jumps I had one manipulator, so a grand total of 3 G5 rolls at Elvira's gaff...luckily for me, I got my jump range from 20ly to 29ly...I'm running a clipper kitted out for multi role , it now has a great boost speed of 515ms which is also a big improvement.

So until things settle I'm going to leave it there, except for one last drop into a high grade emissions data SS ...it turned out to be several bits of imperial shielding, marked as very rare. I'm chasing prismatics so no doubt they'll come in handy one day...but I've dropped in what must be 100's of USS's and this was the first time I've seen imperial shielding.

Today I went to Chiccan, an anarchy system in outbreak. The last planet had a Convoy Beacon, which has between 4-8 Type 9's per visit. None are in wings, all are easy easy kills. I'd say that maybe one in ten of these Type 9's will drop one or two chemical manipulators. I got 20 of those manipulators in about an hour.

Note: you are not looking for USS's folks. You are looking for a Convoy Beacon POI. It shows up in the Navigation tab once you get close enough to the planet that it's next to, just like a RES or CZ.

After struggling to find any manipulators in either outbreak or war systems, the first USS out of my home port was a combat aftermath and had 2 in the SS ...I finished on 18 after about 15 minutes just cruising about..my system is in boom ...go figure. As for convoy dispersion ss, the support ships Adders and the like are always clean. It's always stopped me from killing them for putting up with the hassle in case of fines/ bounties ...is that the case ?

This system has 3 convoy beacons in it, and they all spawn T9's

--> Scorpii Sector FW-W c1-14
--> Bodies 2, 3 & 5

Grabbed 35 chemical manipulators in 60 minutes.

I've noticed some of the new CQC type assets have chemical manipulators just floating about in them. I can't remember which installation it was I was at. But with a bit of relogo it would be an easy and quick farm for chemical manipulators. I didn't bother as I already have plenty from dropping into USS when I see combat aftermath.

Edit: I found another thread detailing what I found https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/344512-Chemical-Manipulators!!!!-and-other-junk

How to find Anarchy Outbreak?

How can I find an Anarchy system in Outbreak? I found a local system in Outbreak in the Galmap, but it was federal democracy. The T9s we're dropping all sorts of goodies, but the cops showed up before I could scoop many of them up each time :-/

another non-destructive method that works quite well for me is to go in low orbit around an earthlike World (~10-15 Mm) in an inhabited system, with speed between 210 and 380 Km/sec.
You get plenty of USS spawns and in combat aftermath and encrypted emissions I regularly craft some 20-30 CMs per hour...
Would be glad if collecting the datamined wake exceptions would work that fast :)

well so far, NONE of these methods have worked for me, after several hours not one chem man.

Really? I was in Dav's Hope for a couple of hours yesterday and they were spawning as much as ever - I still feel a twinge at not picking any more up but we only have so much space in our Remsuit TARDIS-pockets.

Full instructions on how to find many chem man in a short time in my sig(Dav's Hope), if you are still stuck.
(Over 100 per hour of gameplay)

Something is wrong... I just spent 12 hours (no exageration, 12 hours) blowing up type-9s in two systems, LHS 278 (anarchy/famine) and San Zangjel (anarchy/outbreak) with not a single chem manipulator.
