Type 6 - To boldly go

T6 Major Exploration

I am currently Approx 500 LY from Wolf 424, heading to outer most point in the Universe.
The pictures are not Very camera friendly at present , as i have not fully mastered and figured out this Selfie view :(
Expect more photo`s soon of my Travels as im going for a major exploration round the outer galaxy.

Screenshots of "Pirate Bertha" as attached above.

It`s about 20,000 LY to get to outer ED Universe and 340,000 or more Light Years to circumvent the universe. only Severe damage will cause me to cut it short, So watch this space :D

\o/ Finally found my first unclaimed (so far) Earth-like planet orbiting an F class star

Congrats Andrew on the Find , i found one myself out on my first exploratory adventure.

Everyone,

Keep up the T6 exploring and keep them pictures coming :)

Congratulations Rikk, you deserve a little rep for that journey.

Nice shot as well.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, and to everyone else who congratulated me.

When I set out, I knew I was taking a fairly inappropriate ship to the core. Sure, I could have taken something even less appropriate but I do like my swiss army knife Clipper.
I did it because no-one else had at the time. And because it had the most unobstructed view for photos... I was about 2500ly into my trip when 1.2 and it's debug camera were announced... yea... But I still strongly believe (based on my own research) that I am the first Clipper pilot to lay eyes on Sagittarius A*
And now? Now I go further out. I will go to the fringes of the galaxy before heading home.

But you know what would make it even more awesome. Meeting one of explorations finest out here. By that, I mean a T6 pilot.

I loved my old T6, such a hoot to fly.

This is by far the most enjoyable thread I've read thoroughly on the forums. At first when I got ED, I was aimed for the stars to explore.. then reality/finances hit me in the face with my starting sidewinder and I got into mining.. then trading pronto to make some money, but still with one goal.. To save up enough to travel far, blaze my own trail and explore. Now I've got my new T6 just about ready to turn from trading to exploring,,,

That's a nice post Psylocke :)

Good luck on your quest to get out there exploring ;)

Nice and unusual ship that you are using :)

Awesome stuff Lexrax :)

T9. Respect :)

Metal. More respect :D

How are you fitting that out?

I'll send you a EDshipyard link with my setup when I get home... It's got a little over 28LY range, mostly D class stuff except for FSD, Powerplant, thusters and powermanagement, that's all A class. Tossed out all the cargo compartments... the studio and rehearsal requirements warranted this :)

I Just got back from my first mini trip in my T6. I went just about 1000ly up up up from Lave. I had given exploration a very brief try in the past and didn't enjoy it that much but couldn't shake the idea of it and kept coming back to it. This time I had a much more enjoyable time! Instead of just scanning and jumping exploration for sure takes a little imagination on my end compared to some of the other professions. I had a great time looking for interesting things and it was exciting to find a few earth likes and water worlds out there. Back at home safe and sound for a bit trying to decide where to go now!!

Nice! :)

The sectors above and below are lovely and worth exploring (I think). Blanco Sector etc.

So... yes. Im on my way to the unknown aswell :)

Currently approx. 2.5k LY from Sol. My first target is Cats Paw Nebula and then NGC 6357 Nebula. After that i will cotinue to the core or take a left turn and do a big loop before entering core.

And here is my fav blue star and my precious :D

Hope to meet you guys along the way :)

Fly safe.

24 jumps and I am home :) Fingers crossed......

Steady as she goes Ripster.

When you get back and you're selling your data can you have a look at see if any of your scans are listed as "Penetrative scan", there's a thread regarding that here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=130157

Nobody knows what it means yet but apparently some of the scans are listed as that type and the payout is a little higher, speculation is that the detailed surface scans that are listed as "Penetrative" were done from a closer range and it would be nice to narrow down parameters for when that type of scan occurs. For instance, I always throttle down to 0 once a scan starts to stay as far away from the gravity well as possible since it can take a while to escape it and get up to speed to go to the next planet, but some people keep the throttle up and continue to get closer to the planet as the scan progresses.

It's also possible that it's a placeholder "hook" for a possible upgrade to the mining mechanic (crosses fingers).

Safe trip.

Andrew

I have the exploration bug, I'm thinking about heading out myself. I don't see myself driving a type 6, it's way too fragile for my tastes. I can definitely see karma coming back to blow me up, with millions in data, on my way home. For me it's heavily upgraded cobra or nothing.

Each to their own Jordan. But come on! Man up. Who needs an 'uber' T-6 anyways;) Come and join me in my Sidewinder Exploration ship!:D

Andrew, could it possibly be the exploration version of a 'critical hit'? That scan that pulls out some extra juicy info.
While talking about scanning. Is it just me, or does it seem to be talking longer to do a planet scan? Almost feels like the 'hit ratio' has been lowered, so it needs more scan cycles to get a data hit.

Hi Cmdrs...

nice to see so much Newcomers ! Ripster are you home and rich now ;-) ? Will jump in my cockpit now. Was off for a few days. Yeah real life sucks from time to time .hehe.

@Reido

May i use your banner ? Its nice and i like my old flying brick...

I have taken my T-6 out on runs of 200 ly/ 400 ly/ and 600 ly to get my see legs. The last trip included some extended SC runs. Grabbed some unclaimed stars out past 100k ls.
I came back a Pathfinder. You can still find a lot for First Bonuses close by. Had 1 system out only 600 Ly at over 100k credits.
I was a bit unnerved to see that my short hops sustained considerable hull repair wear and tear. I lost 40% hull strength just going out 600 Ly and I never took any damage that registered on the HUD.
Has anyone else lost a lot of hull integrity relative to distance?

It could be, I was hoping that as people get back with their data and have a look at it and comment about their scanning style that we might be able to narrow down when a scan would be considered as a "penetrative scan", but it'll all come out eventually.

Sadly for me I died and I'm back at my last station. I was getting some scenic shots from inside an icy ring when I lost my server connection and when I reconnected and reloaded my ship was spinning out of control and blew up

Here's the last shot I made before going I lost connection and went KA'BLAM:

Icy ring 01.jpg

Not really worried about all the data lost...there's always more systems, but my ship's paint job was just starting to look "experienced" and I wanted to stay out long enough for it to be sand blasted off the leading edges.

Andrew

I think I can safely say my integrity is down to 0% now.

How do you find out how much intergraty u have on your T6 , when it dont show up on your Hud. What menu if at all do you have to go into to find the info ?

@Reido

I feel for you man with the disconnection and the explosion , it`s not a nice thing to have happen to you :(

Be my guest Jim, it was just a little thing I whipped up in a few minutes using IrfanView. I get a little chuckle out of it every time I look at it :D (never take yourself too seriously).

@lexrax
There's no way to know what your ship's hull integrity is until you get back to a station with a repair facility, it's not important for exploration anyway as it only means that your hull is 30% weaker and more susceptible to damage once your hull integrity reaches 0%. It used to be REALLY expensive to repair the hull integrity in the larger ships like the ASP when using them for exploration work but it's supposed to have been reduced in v1.2

Andrew just dusted down and I have no intention of looking or selling here - just glad to BE here.

I hear ya and feel for ya - I will take the time to look at the data as the credits were never a motivation when I set out - exploring was the thing compared to cash when I began (there was no cash in exploration)- just being there in a T6 was something special.. Big hugs though that you didn't make it back :( It's ok for commanders to hug right ? In t6's it is HELL YA)

But after crawling back in the most amazing machine I would be a liar if I wasn't pretty defensive of all the data I have gathered.

Updates later
