Type 6 - To boldly go

So, I self destroyed my trusty 'Silverback' 6500 ly out in the wild.
I landed on a 1g ice world, quite nice as it was ringed... and I made a mistake by tumbling down into a crater with the SRV. There was no way stopping it. What I could have done is to repair the SRV on the fly (literally), but I didn't think on it while falling...

Now I'm racing towards the core again in the new ship named 'Keelblack'. Fitted a better fuel scoop, so I can basically jump without stopping for refueling - just a short deep dive to the star and off I go again...

CMDR Rusticolus reporting in from the far side. I am still slowly tracking 'West' along the outer arm, just to see how far I can get from Sol in terms of actual flight rather than straight line. I am at about -3,000 and the point where I am having to make single jumps, and starting to consider making some jumps on fumes soon.

Also, I hear that CMDR IliteratSqirel is 'nearby' so hopefully we can find somewhere to meet over the 65K line :)

Good to hear from you CMDR Rusticulos! Indeed I've finally made it across the line and am very slowly tracking 'west', currently sitting in the area of CEECKIA NQ-B B47-0. However, I will only get more flying time from late tomorrow. If you let me know where you currently are, we might find a spot in the middle to do a twin-T6 snapshot!

I'm about to revisit Sector MF-1 in my Keelback, see what I can see :)

In RP terms, I'm having it so my Keelback is actually my old T-6, Viaticus Rex II. It had been in deep storage ever since I got back from my last expedition and made Explorer Elite.

Problem is, while I was out trading in the bubble, I ended up in a spot of bother (see the Mossfoot Muckabouts in sig ;) ) and long story short, all my assets were taken from me. My Clipper was stolen by a monk and is god-knows where out there, and all my other ships seized by his Order and sold off. I was left with just a crap Sidewinder and a drained bank account.

(in real life terms I sold all my ships, dumped all the money into an Anaconda until I had zero credits left, then self destructed the Anaconda to start at Sidewinder again... the Clipper I kept, however, but it's stored somewhere in Empire space for story purposes... and I kept one other ship...)

So I tried making a living with my Sidewinder, but it was slow going, until I remembered I had my T-6 in cold storage on a different system. Maybe the monks missed it when they sold my assets?

I hurried to Lave and found out that since I was considered legally dead (again, long story), my storage unit was considered abandoned and my T-6 sold for scrap. Hurrying to the scrapyard I hoped to clear it up before she was taken apart, only to find the job already half done.

Fortunately, I knew a guy in the scrapyard who owed me a favor. He helped clear up the ownership issues, but as far as the ship went it was now in pretty bad shape. However, he promised he could get her flying again, maybe even better than ever in some ways.

And so Viaticus Rex II.I was born ;) Technically a Keelback, but at it's heart the same old T-6 ;)

The sectors above and below are lovely and worth exploring (I think). Blanco Sector etc.

Well, I'm not thinking anymore, I'm exploring them :) Took Kirsty to see Betelgeuse. Unlikely to be the first T-6 to scoop near the surface on the Betelgeuse 2, and definately not the last one to do so.

So now I'm heading down there. Checking out all the systems in Blanco 1 Sector, including the four Blanco 1 WGL systems.

A couple of days ago, CMDR Rusticolus and myself were part of a quadruple meetup - beyond the 65kLY line! A postcard below, but for some more pics pls refer here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=193886&p=3445016&viewfull=1#post3445016
Quadruple meet up and furthest T6.jpg
Surely this is the furthest a (two!) T6ers have gone so far. Neither CMDR Rusticolus nor myself had boost available, so unfortunately we could not jump to Beagle Point. I think CMDR Rusticolus set the maximum record for a T6 (I would need to look it up somewhere). Mine is 65260 LY from SOL.

CMDR iliteratSqirel, aboard "Unexpected Shortfall", on the long and arduous way home (beer supplies running low, the celebrations at the meetup pint were taxing)

I have been meaning to post about the meet-up here!

Yes, as far as I know our meeting was the furthest T6 'rally' to date :) Previously it was Orange Sheets and I at Sag A*.

I managed to get another couple of jumps from the meet-up to 65,228.89 Ly, so your 65,260 is further (only 19 Ly short of Beagle Point!).

I intend to continue exploring this area for a little while longer then will start the journey home.

Wow I had no idea the old a Type 6Es were out this far! Amazing achievement!

Felix, if you've not seen it before, this is a fantastic thread to read through...right from the OP. It tells a great story of how the Type-6 Explorer variant came into being and details the work of the great T-6E Pioneers.

The names of Cmdrs Ripster, Mossfoot, Andrew Reid, Orange Sheets, mw_aurora and IliteratSqirel are the bedrock of the legend that became the T-6 Explorer!

As a small boy I had their posters on my bedroom walls.

Flying happily in my T-6E

Thanks, CMDR Jon, always an inspiration to read about the Type 6E and those who poineered her use out in the black. I will dedicate a nice glass of Port to their memory and deeds.

Hello fellows!

I've been on a triangle tour that will eventually take me to distant (and hopefully interesting) nebulae. About 15 kylies per side of the triangle, but I suspect some detouring shall happen.

Well, gotta be honest. Have been spending more time parked on orbits doing other stuff, but slowly it will pick up...

So here's an entrypoint postcard for all ya Tweaked Sixters!

Well well gentlemen (and -women, as the case may be). It seems the T6E club has gone a bit quiet in the last few months.
Surely some intrepid explorer is out in the vast emptiness somewhere, eager to share their die experiences and screenies?

The "Unexpected Shortfall" has been sitting parked up for now in my home of Bunda, cleaned, vacuum sealed, and put back into pristine condition, while I've been out and unfaithful flying T7s, Pythons, Fer-de-Lances and Vipers as well as Asps (oh the insult) and my current Vulture.

The void has been calling me though, and I did a short hop some 3000LY out to NG7622, but ultimately I will take her out again for a new adventure!

I only used a T6 for exploration for a short while. It proved quite decent at it. But nothing that really competes with the Asp.
