Type 9/10 for Exploration?

Thanks! Just wanted to have an idea how I would go about with defence. Given the massive size of it my mind was stuck with Armour side, but that means waste of slots as well. I think I will go the shield route.

So....... I have done it! Picked up my very own T9!
Decided to take a taxi to TolaGarfs Junkyard station at Kojeara system.

Just pure AWE how massive this thing is!

Always wanted to take a comparison shot. How tiny I am.

First thing I need to do now is make an appointment to get an FSD engineered, then see figure out what's next. Thank you to all Commanders for your amazing help deciding on this ship. I flew it back to my home station. Yes it is slow turning, but not bad actually. I can live with it quite nicely.

I can already see spending countless hours on Ship design tool to come up with limitless fit possibilities. :D

I will continue to post a few updates here as I test out the T9 with various roles.
For exploration, it's usually best to go light on the defenses, since you're not going to win a fight with a dedicated combat ship anyway :)

What you can do if you want it to be sturdier without trading jump range is is engineer the lightweight armor with heavy duty and deep plating. Those trade increased protection for higher mass, but because lightweight armor has a mass of 0, it stays at 0.

I also like to put the smallest possible D-rated shield generator on my explorers (engineered with low power if I have the materials). It doesn't add much protection, but it gives you a buffer for minor dings and scratches during landings, which can add up over time.

Having knowledge is one thing, experiencing it is another.
In my ED career, I have never been pulled out of Supercruise in my DBX or Crusader by Interdiction. Other than the times when I submitted to fight because I was fitted for it. For the first time, I could not evade interdiction in the T9. It is not a surprise, I knew this was coming. Despite my best effort, I just could not shake the interdiction. I had full load of cargo and was able to jump after losing full shield and hull down to 79%.

I was using 6C Bi-Weave Shield Gen with Thermal Resist+Fast Charge exp. I used it because I already engineered it for my Crusader. I think a standard 6A Shield Gen with high capacity would serve better? I don't have Prismatic staff cause never done any PowerPlay. I also had 3 Shield Boosters with Resistance Augment+Flow Control exp. I was hoping that would have been enough to escape without a scratch.

I am going to do that. That should make the hull more durable when shield pops. I am not going to stand around to fight after all. I am strictly doing haulage right now to increase my cash reserve. I think I want to give T10 a try at some point, just to experience the comparison.

In my experience, bi-weaves are best for when you expect to do repeated combat, because they recharge quicker between fights. For one-shot combat, like fighting off a pirate who interdicts you, it's better to have raw shield strength. Sure it'll take longer to recharge, but you don't care because you just want to win the one fight (or escape).

If you don't have access to prismatics, it's not a big deal. The prismatics are like having an extra booster (more or less) so you can put in a smaller prismatic and thus carry a bit more cargo. But a normal 6A shield, reinforced, with hi-cap, and a few heavy duty boosters will do the same job. Don't bother trying to max resistances, or balance them, just go for raw MJ.

Works for me :)

I meant to comment on this too. I also find evading interdictions in the T9 to be problematical. I can win them maybe half the time, but it takes forever. I have a video somewhere of me fighting an interdiction in the T9 for a full 2 minutes before winning it, and it was close even then. That's why I went with armed trader. The heck with those guys, I'm just gonna blow them up ;)
