Secret Planets confirmed! :D

I can confirm what happened to another CMDR some days ago, documented in this thread:

I followed a Medical Convoy: it jumped on another system, then I kept following it in SuperCruise. He headed in some apparently random direction, but after a bit I spotted a tiny object in space, similar to the dot you see when approaching a station.
The Convoy then came out of SC there in front of that dot, and I followed: BANG! A huge icy planet in front of me! The same spotted by the other CMDR, white and lined with canyon like lines. When I say huge, I mean it.
the Convoy headed towards the planet surface, but after a bit he changed his mind, going FSD. I followed it to another System, to an Outpost this time. Then I stopped.

The icy Planet wasn't there before coming out from SC, just a tiny dot.

I hope it's not a bug...

I've seen similar behavior, and talked about it on this very thread a dozen or so pages back now. Sadly, I think it's a bug. The "hidden planet" I found ended up being a normal one in the system that I was "warped" to when I dropped into the wake of the ship I was following. I think what's happening here is that when dropping down, we're being teleported to the nearest planet to our location, or maybe the one with the nearest orbit.

I was looking for this specific behavior and able to replicate it with different planets and ships followed.

Sad, I know.

I'd be psyched if it's not a bug though. :D

I'm still doing it. There's a strong reason I'm doing it, but I'm not sure if this "reason" is in 1.4 as it was in 1.3 ;)

I came back to it, and I found it is an Icy Moon, 853Km diameter, so not that huge as I thought, but that means that the Convoy get out of SC very close to it, so it is even more strange that the moon was not visible while in SC.

BTW this is the third time someone seeing the Convoy stopping in front of an Icy Planet. There must be a reason...

Piscium Sector SQ-R B4-2. the last moon of the last planet. No stations, nothing. Uninhabited System (apparently).

EDIT: sorry, I meant uninhabited...

Guess what...?

Does your icy planet look a bit like Europa? Because if it does then FD is still sending us somewhat subliminal messages with their video communications. Remember the famous latest stream for planet generation? In the sneak preview for that video they used that type of planet.... seems a bit of an interesting coincidence doesn't it?

Well, considering there will presumably only be two types in at the start (rocky and icy) I'll take the odds. :p

So... Look at that SRV footage released by our Lord and Savior David Braben, with something they didn't want us to see at the end of it, so abrupt cut...
Tinfoil wise, is it some stuff related to UA's ?
No clue at all, maybe just some "random" base on the ground or so...

David Braben said:
This is another quick-and-dirty unedited video capture from Horizons on a dev machine (the same GTX 770 as before). It was taken on a rocky moon (somewhere between Earth and Mars in size). Adam is driving this SRV, Eddie the other one. A few things still need work – the display to the right (‘mass lock’ etc) is still to be changed, some audio and visual effects are missing, eg buggy texturing and motion-blur on the tyres are not working, and Eddie’s SRV was not showing on the scanner in this build. The point is it is still in development, but it is already great fun to drive.

Sorry about the abrupt cut at the end, but something came into view shortly after this, that we’re not showing yet… ;-)

The problem with looking at it that way round is that a visually small angle can still mean a large discrepancy due to the distances involved. I made a quick mockup of the situation (screen shot below) and it looks like Merope and ADR GW-W d1-52 are the best part of 100 Ly away from the line between Sol and California Sector HW-W c1-7 (the axes in the screenshot are 100 Ly long). That said, I don't think there is any reason why the UAs need to be found exactly on the line. It seems pretty clear that the UAs are moving towards Sol, or at least toward the bubble:
1.2 Wings trailer: UA allegedly transported by a ship in California Sector HW-W c1-7
1.2: UAs found in convoys in the bubble, but none free-floating found there
1.3: UAs found free-floating in the Pleiades region
1.4: UAs found free-floating in the area around Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52 and no longer found in the Pleiades region.

So we should be able to make a rough prediction on where they'll turn up next, and meet them on their way. They've covered most of the distance since we last talked about California Sector, we need to get ahead of the game soon.

Perhaps a double objective - go to California Sector for a really good snoop around and see if we can meet up with whoever is sending them, while at the same time getting in the way of that path to Sol.

The abruptly cut Fed research program comes to mind when it was announced that the UA can broadcast data over enormous distances - do they know it's broadcasting to California Sector?

I thought I've said it in my post, that it looks a lot like Europa, but I apparently forgot to write it.
Yes it does. Very much.

Happened across this video today. It sounds vaguely familiar. :)

It's likely been mentioned before, I suppose, but I found it interesting none the less. It's a nice video to watch either way.

Cheers.

Could this be a Genome?

I've spent the evening checking signal sources in Warkushanui in my FAS. One evening is by no means enough to pick up on any rare scenarios but the basics of what I've found can be summarised simply:
1) Nothing out of the ordinary on board the stations mentioned in Galnet. No sign of a CG nor any unusual missions (I did one 'Obfuscated in the Outer Rim' mission to the outpost Cassidy Hub but these are not very unusual).
2) Salvagable wreckage is the least common type of signal source here. I've only seen two in an entire evening and dropped into just one. It had the wreckage of a T9 and 5 Occupied Escape Pods (which I turned over to the contact available at Cassidy Hub).
3) With four factions fighting civil wars, many of the signal sources reflect this. Good credits bounty hunting whilst you search for anomalies, if that's your field of interest. Hafnium convoys can also sometimes be found in SSS.
4) I encountered two ships with slightly unusual cargo in USS between Gurragchaa Gateway and Cassidy Hub/Marconi Station. One was an unshielded hauler carrying 5 tons of Encrypted Correspondence, 2 tons of Beer and 1 ton of Tactical Data that was attacked by two pirates. I just about saved it (it had 7% hull remaining) and followed it for a while but it made no attempt to engage its FSD. It was following a course from Gurragchaa to either Cassidy Hub or Marconi Station. The other was a wanted Cobra carrying 12 tons of Scientific Samples. I think these may be ordinary salvage items but although I shot its cargo hatch down to almost 50% before it was destroyed (2 Eagles were also shooting at it), it did not drop any of them so I could not check (I have seen BB missions to salvage Commercial Samples, though, so I'm guessing that the Scientific Samples are a variation of that).
I may spend some time checking the system again tomorrow but it will only be an afternoon or morning at most. I spent a few days checking signal sources for UAs near the end of 1.3 and it's not something I enjoy doing for long: once you start to get a picture of what scenarios are around in any given system it's all just waiting for the RNG to give you something. There's nothing in the pattern of scenarios here to indicate that there's anything amiss in this system beyond the civil wars.
Good luck for anyone else searching the system!

Operation Snatch..

Objective:- Intercept medical convoy and grab "ALL" cargo
When :- Saturday 4pm till 8pm BST
Where:- Merope
Reality:- Mobius

Why, Why not ?

Simple plan, Wing up, Find convoy of any kind (Probably medical)
Take out escorts first
Then hit the ship carrying XYZ and empty it !

Theory, maybe all of the cargo and a UA makes a difference

2nd objective, Drop a UA in the path of a Medical convoy...... Do they react ?

Once collected transport items to Canonn home system Varati for storage / potential later use.

Anyone welcome :D o7

C&C have confirmed. .. operation Satch is still a go...

Genome or not. Something looks strage with that UA. The sea shells seem to be falling off.

Do you have that pic in higher res.?

Unfortunately not at the moment, the abnormality in the UA is probably because it was taken with the dev camera, its clipped through a tiny bit.

And often it gets away. I followed one the other day for 4 or so jumps, it kept ALL its wing the entire time.
I did lots of Hafnium Convoy following, so know the pitfalls. In 1.4 I discovered yet another one where they can jump out of system to a target that is obscured by a star. You cannot follow.
Add that one to not appearing in system, their low wake being unfollowable, being interdicted while chasing them, crashing into a star, the wing reappearing when you interdict them... and probably more that I have forgotten.

Scientific Research on the Medical Convoys is the only thing we are currently looking for AFAIK. Most other things have been tested to death.

I'm gonna nail this over the weekend.. I'll let everyone know what I find ;)

Tonight I moved from Jaques with UA 'Hilda' to SOL, and did some deployment tests near to the Capital Ship. No unusual change in behaviour.
I also took a screenshot to test its alignment with Merope, and as far as I could tell was spot on.

I'm currently in Merope, and the main star doesn't show up on the radar, navigation panel and if you point to the centre of it, it no longer comes up with the orange target reticule. I can still target it from the system and the orange reticule with the star name is there. I've jumped to a couple of other systems and the main star is there as usual, jumped back to Merope and no navigation or radar data for it. I am wondering if anyone with a UA at the moment can confirm it still points towards Merope.

Does the rest still show up in Merope?

Interesting... do you take heat damage as you approach the star?
