UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

Yes everything else in Merope still shows up. The main star is there in game, I can scoop from it and target it via the system map but not by pointing my ship at it, or from the Navigation menu.

I logged to desktop and back into the game again and it was still missing.

Then took a trip to Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52 to pick up a UA, the first SSS had one but due to a mistimed text from my missus I destroyed it by crashing into it at full tilt, a few minutes later I found another SSS with a UA, I excited SC around 450 away from it and was immediatly scanned. When I approached it it wasn't pointing towards Merope, pretty much directly away from what I could tell, but after a little nudge from my ship it reoriented itself and was pointing back towards Merope again.

Whilst returning with the UA to Merope I jumped into HIP17044 and almost as soon as I entered the system there was a direct message from an NPC [Andy Dufresne]: The rumour was right... Good job I found you first

I was preparing to jump to the next system when he interdicted me, got my shields down to 0 and hull to 75% in what seemed like no time at all. Then scanned me, a couple more what looked like standard pirate messages, I jettisoned the UA, away and then he and the UA where gone leaving a wake signature, unfortunately with no scanner I couldn't tell where he went.

I'm there right now and it's all normal at my end. :( Do you have an AU with you or any other special items?

Edit: a curious George jumped in, he sees nothing odd either. A friend of his is on his way with an AU.

I'm back there now (minus the UA) and still not on my Nav panel or targetable from anything other than the system map (I'm playing on Mobius). I made a slight schoolboy error in that when I came across the second the UA I repaired a few systems ready to haul it back and kind of forgot to switch my shields back on, hence the very quick amount of damage taken during the interdiction.

*hangs head sheepishly*

Does anyone know if the UA is pointing at Merope as soon as you enter the SSS with it in?

Bummer, sorry for the loss... out of curiosity what ship are you flying? valid question since the UAs seem to be interested in precisely that lately.

Update: this friend of the guy I met at Merope was an elite clipper, who repeatedly tried to interdict me. I tried asking him why but he just kept on trying. He seemed interest in the secondary star for some reason, he dropped out of SC there for a minute or so. On my way back to Varati, will call it a night.

Pretzil: sucks, happens to the best of us. :)

I'm flying an Asp.

Just went back and picked up another UA from an SSS that spawned within the scooping range on the main star in Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52, this one was pointing towards Merope when I discovered it. Iwas interdicted in the first system I jumped into, submitted and FSD'd away, got to Merope safely with it, and then schoolboy error number 2 of the night, jettisoned it whilst I was still in supercruise :/ (in my defense it's getting on for ten to two in the morning). Still no sign of the the star on the radar or in nav panel. Going to try one more time before bed.

Was heading to Aries Dark Region GW-W d1-52 to get another one but as I plotted my route with around 3/4 of a tank of fuel it sent me a different route to the last few times (No idea why as it was the same amount of jumps), but found an SSS in HIP 14621, which is a couple of jumps away from GW-W d1-52.

*you should have waved Vithia :)

Update on 4th UA

Safely returned to Merope (main star still not showing on radar or nav panel), headed towards Merope 5, deployed UA in WSS containing 3xRare Artwork, UA oriented itself towards Merope main star, recovered UA.

Proceded towards Merope 5, deployed UA in Salvagable Wreck spawn containing small data cache (can't remember the exact wording), UA oriented itself towards Merope main star.

Logged out, restarted my PC, logged back into Mobius, still no main star on either radar or nav panel. Continued towards Merope 5, deployed UA at 0.35 Ls ffrom Merope 5, UA oriented itself towards Merope main star. Aligned my ship with the head of UA between it and Merope and aligned open cargo scoop with UA as close as I could without scooping it. UA "died" (it's little death scream will haunt me forever) and nothing of note happened.

A couple of interesting points

All three times I tried to get the UA back to Merope I was interdicted by various NPC's *first UA I bumped into a little to hard :(
The second UA I found was definately not pointing towards Merope when I found it (at a guess I'd say it was pointing in the opposite direction) Also with this one I entered the SSS over 1000m away from it and it didn't scan me until I'd flown closer.
The fourth UA I couldn't target until I was 45m away from it after being in the SSS for around 20 to 30 seconds and entering less that 500m from it.
I did notice and this has probably been mentioned before, that the effect the UA has on the surounding environment (i.e. visual distortion of the star field) as well as the blue particles emitting from it does look very similar as the effect when entering Supercruise from normal flight (just after the ships computer says "Engage").

As sleutelbos has confirmed that he could see Merope both on Radar and nav panel I may file this as a bug.

And for science I ran out of real milk around midnight and my last three cups of tea I had to use the emergeny UHT milk that was in my cupboard :(

Have UAs always regenerated when picked up? I deployed mine to observe it for a bit and it slowly started decaying until I picked it back up and supercruised to an other SSS where I found yet another UA. I deployed it again to see what would happen in proximity of an untouched example and the one in my hold had gone back to 100% health after having been bumped once or twice and left to decay a bit... I thought once they decay they stay at the damage level until further damage is dealt.

Don't worry about disappearing Merope. Known bug from the problems with the exploration server. You just need a scanner to pick it up again, I have had this with a dozen or so systems.

Cargo always has reset to 100% when picked up. It is a method to prevent instances getting full of floating cargo rather than model where space destroys metal cannisters

Not sure we're talking about the same issue. A rescan of the system didn't recover it.

Then ticket it. Bugs need fixing

Have done now as it is still happening in solo, group and open this morning. I thought it may be the star class but a jump into Pleione was fine.

@RedWizzard just the usual "NO NEW ASTRONOMICAL OBJECTS DISCOVERED" when a system has already been scanned.

ANOMALY DETECTED

Cmdrs, something peculiar is happening. As I'm basically out of ideas, I figured I'd plot a line from California through Pleiades, and see what the next nebula would be. Its a long shot, but I decided I'd got to ADR GW-W D1-52 to pick up an AU and try the Coal Sack, Fine Ring, and such regions as they are vaguely on the line. For completeness sake I checked the direction of the AU as it was free-floating. As usual it rotated, seemingly towards Merope. On closer inspection, it did not. I've since tested it with three different AU, in three different (but nearby) systems. The AUs consistently rotate towards a place closer to California than Pleiades. There are small deviations, which could mean:

1) its pointing at different places
2) something is distorting its sensors
3) its pointing at a relatively close system

I've video-logged everything, here are two stills:

anomaly2.jpg

I'm heading back for repairs, and will then set out to try and triangulate it.

UPDATE

My scanners no longer work in Merope, the whole system is dark. The UA does not point towards the main star, nor has it been pointing at the system at various stops along the way. When passing the Pleiades nebula the UA does point backwards.
