UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

So - yeah - Dr 'Perfeck' Derthek, Nick Powell, PsychoFish, Huros, RatKing plus many more will be requiring your presence on the live stream soon(ish(tm)).

Ironically enough, the stream should be featuring a little bit of Riz's work ;)

(Plus others of course - let's face it, if I wrote a post right now giving 'props' to everyone that's helped out so far to get us to this point, I'd probably blow my keyboard up)

There's a few links around - from the homepage on our site (http://canonn.science), off our twitter account etc, but also over on the Live Stream Thread.

Tell your friends. Tell your family (well, unless, like me, none of your famil 'get it'), tell the next person you meet on the street.

Today the Canonn & the UAs are coming home, people. It'll be a case of 'be there, or be a dodecahedral head-piece'.

I'm wordless. Really.
You are all awesome guys, all of you, even the ones that prefer to be so "serious" and rude all the time ;)
Being one of the peaceful ones, I've always preferred irony and amusement over seriousness and rudeness. But I accept that we are not all the same.

There were countless subtle posts against me, since day one, but I decided to take it with irony. So perhaps I'll do that again this time as well.
I don't expect any apologies, because I already know there will not be any. But I really don't care.

I've received so many PMs and appreciation's posts all around I cannot leave you here alone. You know, it's a game, as someone here said cleverly. :D

So, ok, perhaps I'll reconsider.
Also because there is an incoming streaming no one can miss!

Thank you all guys and gals (Obsidian TM), from the bottom of my heart.

Free UA decodings for everyone!

@ Rizal - Speaking with complete openness and no ill intent toward you whatsoever, you do come across being a bit "strong/short" with your responses and that ruffles some feathers though I know that it is not your intent to be rude to anyone. Personally I think that is part of being Italian... (I know I struggled with that same thing after moving to the US).

@ all This is the sort of thing that gets lost when you're trying to read someone instead of actually talking to them and should be an example for everyone.

My point is this is a collective effort and a lot of people have come and gone. An equal amount of fine folks has stayed through the different threads and as a result enjoyed the mystery and camaraderie that comes from it, but I will repeat myself THIS IS A GAME... and yes games have rules and certain standards of conduct which I think should be somewhat reiterated (i.e. like no OBVIOUS cheating). Let us all not allow this GAME to muddy up the friendships and experiences that have been built because of it. I also appeal to the long termers here to be more tolerant with the new and the curious.. they don't know better and are just as eager.

Now big group hug and let's go get those bast....!

Will cross-posted to the UA thread, the group thread and the live-stream thread

Just a quickie for those watching the stream, or getting caught up in the general hoo-haa caused by the Canonn/UA invasion today and then trying to register on our site (in my sig).

Your registration will go through straight away, and you'll be asked to confirm it (this is normal). By default you can only see parts of the site (which are all very interesting, of course!).

We have a secondary step to 'promote' you to 'Canonn Member', whereupon you'll have access to pretty much everything else. Now, there's a few of us that can do this (me being one) - but one of the main guys is Derthek who, as you'll see, will be otherwise engaged looking after our Galactic Intern - Ed.

If I can, I'll try and take over Derthek's janitorial duties and 'mop up' your registrations. But, because I'm ridiculously lazy (ask the rest of the council - seriously, I don't know why they put up with me) - there might be a delay.

Other than that - enjoy the show!

Ok guys, it's been a privilege working with you all, in these six months and more, sharing the same emotions, the same discoveries, working together as a whole.
But I really feel my effort is not appreciated even if it was always honest and sincere, from my side. Really, it makes me feel bad.

So, thank you very much to all the people who repped me a thousand times during these happy months, making me a better man than I was before this long and awesome journey.
And thank you to those who never repped me as well: my effort was sincere, challenging and I put hundreds of my real life hours in it.
I really tried to do my best, with all the effort I was able to produce.

I'll be following your progress with the usual care and attention, but I'm out from the Canonn and the UA research and Science.
I'll never post again in this thread.

A sincere and deep hug to LordZoltan, Han_Zen, Zenith, Popov, Ratking15, RedWizzard, Patau, nirleb, Derthek, Huros, fyo, and all the others men of science.
You made me a better man, thank you!

Take care, and fly safe.

Rizal, I've personally enjoyed reading all of your posts, and have been amazed of your tireless energy put behind each and every single one. My daily dose of UA Mystery news has been fueled by many of your posts :)
Btw, any Cmdr I can kill for you?
(Was hoping for a personal hug, but hey, being a lurker, what can you expect?)

<snip> both he and I did the same thing: look at the binary content in a hex editor (hint: there's almost no human-readable content) to get an idea of how the scenarios for UAs etc are delivered to the client. In my own case, I did it because I wanted to understand how likely it was there'd be truly 'dynamic' elements to the UA scenarios, or not.

Absolutely no information was gleaned other than an insight into how the scenarios are loaded, and our own suspicions were confirmed - i.e. We learned absolutely nothing about the UA, only a tiny bit of useless meta-information about the scenario loading.

I personally do not have great feelings for or against looking into game files; I don't do this but if you want that's your game.

Having said that, the defence you offer is of the type "yes I did it but didn't find out anything of import", which is rather poor. If you had found out something of import then would that retroactively make it a bad thing? This does not make sense. You looked and you risked finding out possibly a whole lot more than you say you wanted to. Sorry, but this isn't a very consistent position.

That notwithstanding, it is sad to see anyone want to leave and Rizal has indeed contributed a huge amount of effort.

.....I need to sleep less because it seems I miss important stuff when I sleep.. I missed Rizal leaving and coming back....

but then again sleep is rather important as is balances things out in the brain chemistry and keeps you from trying to bash the fax machine in thinking it's a zombie (I was 13 or 14, had pulled a weeklong stint of no sleep because my parents let me stay home and I had the brilliant idea of marathoning ALL the monster movies, though to be fair up until 4 years ago we were still using the old heat activated paper fax machines that could probably wake the dead with how much noise they made)

....anyway

Any of these stations where people were dropping UA's en-masse?

No, it's a fair point. I accept the criticism with open arms.

I didn't expect to find anything, and had I done I wouldn't have shared.

However, had I found something, then I would have ruined it for myself, so I would've paid the price.

Either way - my days of snooping were done back in July, and I haven't tried since. Nor will I try again.

Personally, having far too much fun being drip fed things and engaging with the rest of you.

That's the value of this thing for me.

Good to see you back riz@l. Don't do that again.

It happened to me as well with the audio files. I thought I had found something but (fortunately for me) I didn't. I felt so bad afterwards that I decided to delete everything, 'cause one thing struck me: when you find something by cheating, you're alone. Nobody's with you. Here, we are all oblivious to the truth, but we're having fun and we're all together. Thus, I prefer being blind and have fun with this group to being sighted and alone. Anyway, case closed, let's carry on.

I guess the stream is over now, isn't it?
