UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

You should give this thread a read: we are debating about it a lot lately: T6, T7 and T9 NEVER produce the Drawing in the UA morse, the UA spells the System's name. Unless the UA is jettisoned from another non-T ship.
You cannot find the system because the UA spells only alphanumerical characters, not dashes.

EDIT:
Sorry, my mistake, the System is HYADES SECTOR D5Y D39

So, sorry if this test has been proposed or tried since the new T# behavior, but can we try to use this to see if the UA can find an invisible object?

This is my plan. Im heading to Merope and gonna travel in different directions away from the celestial objects and see what it reports.
If it finds something I believe we should be able to triangulate it using 3 lakon cargo ships? ;)

I've been to Merope and let the UA send its morse. Even though I'm closer to "Merope 5" it keeps sending the morse for just "Merope".
Will it ever send anything else than station names, system names or the ship model? Anyone ever got it to send any other celestial object?

I agree with your assumptions as well, that the UA is Thargoid related. Though I would not be surprised if the Devs took a storyline akin to Halo, where there is a 3rd unknown race similar to the Flood.

I am not sure if you directly quoted MB, if so, then the use of the word KNOWN races is key, and the implication that the UA is Thargoid falls flat.

MB said there are only two known sentient races: Thargoids and the extinct indigenous race from Achenar, which would imply the UA would almost have to be Thargoid assuming they're not of human origin

Where/when did MB say that? (not a challenge, just I'm interested)

I'm not sure where he said it originally, I think it was one of the early dev videos. It was reported in Lave Radio episode 3: http://laveradio.com/episode-3-religion-and-politics/ (skip ahead to 42:00, skip ahead doesn't seem to work online for me at least, but that's the time in the downloaded version). Note that MB made that statement in relation to the larger number of races described in some of the Elite material, and that he said that over two years ago. Braben has since stated that there are races other than Thargoids out there: https://youtu.be/RdP1DmRYco8?t=3242.

Looks like they're only finding salvageable wrecks, no convoys. Also, I don't think there have been UA convoys since... 1.3? Can anyone confirm?

I haven't heard of any.

I've seen salvageable wrecks 5000+ Ly from Sol.

Yes, it will. You'd have to be quite close to the planet though, within 100 Ls (maybe even 10 Ls).

It was deeply tested before 1.4, and lots of planets names were morsed.

In 1.4 someone's deployed it in Merope, and the UA spelled "MEROPE". But I don't know where exactly.
You should drop it inside the dropzone of a Planet to let it spell its name. But, no, it wasn't tried.

If you are still there, can you do some more tests please? For example, inside one of the Asteroid belts.

Quiet in here this morning.

I have now stored my trusty Cobra (The Escape Vector) and kitted out a new science T6 (Room 101).

Course is plotted for Wolf 221, lab coat is hanging over the pilots seat and tin foil and biscuits (plane Digestives to be safe) are stored in the glove box.

I'm heading out tonight and I will not return from the shell (except in an escape pod) without knowing what makes the T-class ships special.

I'm not on a suicide mission. It's just that I have limited in game time and don't want to waste it on traveling.

I may have to make an exception to recharge the AMFUs. What is the closest station to Wolf 221?

It's a good idea!
I always prefer Aries Dark Region GW-W D1-52, because it's two jumps from 49/64 Arietis: it's the perfect testing ground.

BTW, are we friends in game? Add me! CMDR RIZ@L.

I actually noticed that you were missing from my friends list, so I tried to add you yesterday. I think I did it wrong by sending the request to Rizal, not Riz@l:eek:

That will be fixed today.

I'm CMDR Han Zen.

I'll repost my findings again. I removed them because I felt I was really close to solving it all.
This night i found a distress call in the morse code the UA sends.

After most of the sequences there are additional sound and I have wondered for some time what it actually is.
I believe it sends "I TTT" where TTT is a signal for SOS:
Additional warning and distress signals followed the introduction of SOS. On January 20, 1914, the London International Convention on Safety of Life at Sea adopted the Morse code signal TTT ( – – –), three letter Ts (–) spaced correctly as three letters so as not to be confused with the letter O (– – –), as the "Safety Signal", used for messages to ships "involving safety of navigation and being of an urgent character".

Ill attach the samples I have:
Short audio sample of the SOS: http://1drv.ms/1OBfG8u
Image with morse code: http://1drv.ms/1OBfOoj

The big high sounding "honks" the UA produces sounds like a foghorn:
Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foghorn
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vggK0nPBCA

Now, is there any way to respond to them?
The wedding barge keeps coming to my mind that we need to swap frequencies in order to establish a proper communication with the vessels in need of help.

Nice find. Cant wait to hear the verdict from the other Morse experts.

I notice that the TTT message in not exactly the same as the SOS or MAYDAY. It's an urgent navigational safety warning. Something you would send to a ship on collision course or in danger of heading aground.

Did your collision lights blink while you recorded this?

Those additional sounds are well known, they are there since the beginning.
I've always thought they are just markers. And very likely they are.

BTW the T reminds me of some ships ;)
Let's assume three T, three T-ships. Perhaps a nice test with all the T-ships close to a UA could be a thing. No snakes this time. :D
But I cannot do it all by myself and my two accounts.

The TTT was invented to prevent believing exactly that.
