UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Greetings CMDR's!

As this would be one of the interesting things since a long long time:
T9 with scientific research? Please notice the redundance: CMDR Willy Whale "T9" vs CMDR Unrealization speaks from "Python"
Mission failed? Wake from T9 was beyond jump range of your Vultures? How many Ly / to wich system?
Realy none of you both was able to push F10 or other screenshot-button?

The distance was about 10 ly. I could have followed. My jump range would've covered that, but I didn't want to leave Uncle Bert behind.
I do have a screenshot of the mission failed chat message, and our near simultaneous confusion regarding that message. Can post it once home tonight.

I'm pretty sure it was a Python in this case, not a T-9.

Edit: I think I can also look up the system they jumped to once I log in tonight. Still parked in Timocani.

I think a Beta and an Add-On are two different things. Anybody can get Horizons, but not everybody can just get into the Beta now. And not everybody wants Beta Access, for a variety of reasons.

While ultimately I of course cannot forbid anybody to jump ahead and go test things, and I completely understand the curiosity that drives people to do this, I think we should try not to UA in Betas.
Rizal, do you think you're really just gonna go check out if the bubble is still in the same place? Isn't this information, if we're being really honest, completely worthless by itself, and also easily confirmed within 20 minutes of general release?

My point being that some people may decide not to participate anymore simply because they feel left out because of not having a head start thanks to the Beta.
As I said, Horizons is a different thing, because it's a personal choice whether or not to get it, but for the Beta it's the Beta players which I think should be considerate of those who will not be able to join in on the fun.

So, yeah, I understand the curiosity that makes people want to go out and test any potential new stuff, but maybe take a moment to consider whether or not it would bother you if you were periodically left without a chance to participate in the new discoveries, other than reading and talking about them.

It depends on how much time the beta period will last :D
No, seriously, yours are far points. As I already said, being not sure at all if some UA content will or not be hidden, I tend to think that I'll not do any UA research during that period, apart perhaps from some minor checks that I'll not share here.
BTW, let's see what others will do first.

That said: the purpose of a beta is to check bugs and unwanted behaviors, before they go live. I think that bugs can affect the UA mystery as well, so, why not test them as well? Ok, it could be a very faint excuse :D

As I said, I'll wait and see what other CMDRs will do and how they'll behave, before doing something concrete.

Personally only saw scientific research in Python medical convois (up to over 800 ly from SOL). And one single found as free floating cargo in a WSS in Beta 1.4 (never again in current)!

I should have it recorded by Win 10 DVR. I will check and post later but given that it was late last night I would not be surprised to have miss-remembered the escorted ship. Cut me a slice of humble pie in preparation.

Edit: I think the system was Nihursaga (9.66ly)
UB

I've never cared much about people discovering things first (except for neutron stars!), so I don't mind if people find interesting things related to the UA during the beta. I'll gladly read the spoilers and try to throw insane theories your way as usual.

Thanks a lot!
I'm on my way to Timocani with KWS, cargo and wake scanner... So only one shield booster left now...
Things change frome time to time. (Or work more like "intended" after silent fixes as usual at Frontier ...)
So maybe you have catched a big one.
Great unexpected info. And if available post the screenshot with the chatter.

We salute you!

Just to clarify, even though it doesn't appear necessary: I don't intend to point at you and say "Rizal, don't do this." or "Yeah, Rizal's gonna do it anyway.", I just used your statement about checking the location of the bubble as an example.

I've never cared much about people discovering things first (except for neutron stars!), so I don't mind if people find interesting things related to the UA during the beta. I'll gladly read the spoilers and try to throw insane theories your way as usual.
I actually see it the same way. I can live with it when people go out into Beta and find new things. New things are exciting and it's fun to discuss those discoveries and make up wild theories about them.
But I can imagine that there may be others that would prefer to be able to have a shot at finding those things as well, because it feels good to read stuff like "And then Popov had this awesome idea and we all celebrated with whiskey and biscuits."

Just caught up with this thread (should that be a Canonn tagline?)

While reading, a couple of crazy thoughts come to mind.

Crazy thought:
Does anyone think the spore cloud around a UA could be related to an electron cloud?
The UA itself would be the nucleus. What does that give us? 12 pods = Magnesium? or 3 atoms of Beryllium?

Even crazier thought:
With all the T related shenanigans (T-ships with different morse, Heike Tea curing plague), maybe FDev are winding up the Beta players who kicked up a fuss when there was a coffee commodity in game but no tea commodity.

As you were Cmdrs.

Got to include neutrons. The element Carbon or 3 Helium atoms. Assuming the most common variety is used.

A novel idea. Even if it doesn't prove significant I rep for originality and out of the box thinking. Well done.

Hmm how about ammonia NH3? The molecule resembles a tripod sort of like the UA.

YES! :D

BTW, my thoughts about beta: being a beta backer myself, I will have access to the beta as usual.

What I plan to do:
I will not spoil anything. I mean, perhaps I'll take a look at just one thing: if the UA is still spawning 135/150Ly from Merope. I'll check just that.
But I will not tell you :D

You, sir, are an honourable man! I salute you Commander!

I think the proposed use of Spoilers is sensible. Don't forget that FD want you to test things out -that's why they release betas, but I suspect major plot developments will not be made in the beta & they'll reserve those for the full release.

Horizons is on my Christmas list; hope FD get the gift boxes sorted on the store. It was mentioned I think in DB's livestream last week, but I've looked a couple of times since & can't see them yet in the wares/basket areas. I'm really looking forward to getting a Cobra IV!!
Until I get my Horizons, I honestly don't mind if anybody with a beta makes progress with the UAs- I'm sure Horizons will create all sorts of new storylines, and I think the UAs (& Thargoids, as I suspect that is totally separate) will carry on for a fair time yet.

Actually, I think a lot more on here will be looking forward to materials. Being able to craft your own AFMU ammo whilst out in the cold is probably the most useful thing 2.0 will bring to UA research.

Just to expand a bit further my thoughts:
THAT information is not worthless: it just means that there's new UA related content in 1.5! My curiosity needs to know just that: so that's the only thing I'll try to understand during beta.

Then I'll wait for the official release to do the real Science, also because I do not have that much time, and everything is done in beta needs to be done again after release. And I really don't like to repeat things in a game where repetition is a core essential "feature" already... ;)

...not talking about the new added choice to take some Kinetics Weapons with you out there in the black... :D
