I probably spent some 20 hours scouring planets over just the past few days....
Got a pretty good supply of materials. At least I won't run out of SRV fuel and repairs...
I have to say, scouring planets for a super rare persistent location has resulted in mixed feelings. I'm certainly enjoying the views and the nebula backdrop absolutely helps. Its been a great reason to get out there and actually land on these planets. Otherwise there wouldn't be much of one..
BUT. I'll add a BIG BUT. It feels mostly aimless. Like hunting for a bacterium without a microscope. I'd wish there would be at least some sort of generic clue. Surface? Crater? Canyon? Certain planetary type? Certainly researchers in the game's era should be capable of analyzing a certain material to determine which sort of environmental conditions it was exposed to. Are there no exobiologists or exogeologists or did they all end up as imperial slaves building clippers? Metals can have structures which can help indicate the temparature/pressure they endured in the environment. What about potential impurities which point to certain planetary types? Presence of water? Carbon? Something else? How about carbon dating the presence of such materials. Assuming they come from a planet's surface, one may be able to narrow the planet down with these factors..
Anyway. Too much logic. Likely some planetary body was randomly chosen.. someone said 'ooh that looks like a nice spot.. and wham, persistent POI placed..'
