hey, why not the arrow point to merope 5c and the search area is actualy an area(the 30° area) ?

Yeah that's worth checking out, good idea.

My main reasoning for having the 30° area pointing to the parent body / reference point is simply that it allows for a lot more matches and a smaller resulting search area - really depends on how difficult we think FDev have made it for us :)
I'll try a few different configurations and will post if I find anything that matches well enough.

Btw: why are everybody (or a lot of people) convinced that the image has to do sth with Merope?

because the UA points to merope and the UP to merope 5c.

And damn it, read the bloody first page.

Well, he could be right though. Remember when MB agreed with LZ when he wrote that UA's don't point to Merope because of Barnacles but because of other reasons. Here the same thing could apply: the UP's message may not be about Merope 5C just because it points there.

After all, it's a probe, right? Therefore, this sphere should lead us to a "home", just like Sagan's pulsar map.

I understand that when you bring UP to Merope system it points to star or Merope 5 c. But where it (UP) points when you leave it in the system in which it was found? Drop it close to star of that system, what happens?

I've only visited a barnacle once and that was a few weeks ago. Just after the Farragut cruisers were sighted in escort. The scans were doing the same thing then as well.

Good pics and thanks for bringing it to the attention of the community!

Sorry to rain in your parade, but this is not new.. at least a couple of weeks old.

I wish i had an UP to quickly test some of my theories.
Here is one that could be easily checked by UP owners within 5 minutes.

After we so often referrenced to movies when we discovered the UA why not having the devs giving us exactly what we wanted? (Close encounters and independence day)
The 'map' could be a manual how to use the UP.

Top right: ship sending ads pulse to UP
Top left: UP answering with the EMP
Lower left: UP waiting for input (sound, light)
Lower right: UP unlocked, maybe transmitting more

How to send input, what to test as well?

Use our headlights or our discovery scanners that emit notes when triggered just for a second.
Sending another honk after our systems come back. (never seen this in vids or tests)
Waiting for the UP to light up and emit the whale sound and then emit our honk. (Never seen this as well but seems to be obvious. Up howls, we howl in answer).
The UP emits a flashing signal right when the emp hits us. Maybe sending it right back?

Edit2: do the notes when quickly triggering the ads follow a certain order? I am no musician to figure this out. I never reakized that as well before it was mentioned somewhere in this thread.

As i said, i wish i could do this myself.

So the story of the Pleiades is of a large Hunter Orion chasing the 7 sisters, the chase is immortalized in the stars. Merope is considered the lost Plaied because you can only see 6 stars in the sky, at least to the naked eye. I'm sure FD's decision to place this alien mystery in Merope may at least be allegorical to the story.

Perhaps if we take that story on its face and take a simplified view of it, maybe we're searching for an alien species that is on the run from something that's not us. Like Orion, there's a hunter and prey. We're suppose to be find wreckages at some point. Meta Alloys are desirable, who is to say it's only desirable to just us?

I'm of the mind we're investigating extra-terrestrials in the middle of being hunted by thargoids for their specific resources. Just a thought.

I feel like probably a lot on here thinking 'too obscure, need more in-game clues'.

If a puzzle is too obscure, interest will wane. It happened with the barnacles, and it'll happen here.

That would be a good thing. Between RL & trying to keep up with this thread I have no time to play the game or explore the audio.

Good morning Cmdr's,
There is another humanitarian crisis on merope 5c, there are six occupied escape pods at (26.89,63.65). If anyone needs a break from searching. I'm playing on xbox FYI
I like this double speak...Humanitarian ...but your only (?) option is to pick them up and sell illegally to probably slavers, SEMIhumanitarian at best

Interesting, what do you mean by "funny" ?
..it has started with the fart jokes?

Escape pods can be turned over to the authorities as legal "commodities" since 2.1.0.x

Nick4two0 might have money in mind, but his actions are not illegal (anymore) or inhuman.

This happened when I scanned a Barnacle yesterday, too. It does say 'data compromised'... Does anyone think honking a UP with this data package in their inventory would 'unlock' the data package?

And the "music" that people found earlier - that was also a base 8 scale (there are eight notes on it).

What happened to the music? Was it debunked somehow? Or did we just totally forget about it once the "map" was found? Maybe the music forms part of the key?

Oi!!! What about the music? That was clearly signal not noise! Answer me or I'll start asking questions about tidal locking :D

I think it was Domm who got a 'this is good thinking' from MB first :)

some time later, though, he fid then pop in again to agree with something I said that referred back to it.

it waa emotional.

Does anyone think this is some non human version of the gold disk on the Voyager probes?
A road map to "we are here" etc

if if all the UA's produce a picture when honked is the sum of the pictures going to produce a road map or some thing pointing to another clue.
The meta alloys look like seed pods has anyone tried dropping one on a similar planet in another nebula to see what happens?

I may be asking question already posted but with several hundreds of post to go through on several threads, I may have missed something.
