UAs, Barnacles & other mysteries Thread 7 - The Canonn

Maybe we should stop looking at these things for awhile and poke at the dead ships that have black box messages or whatever? Maybe it's possible to determine the path of their crash or something else useful?

Nothing says the UP, UA, or Barnacles are the end all be all of the science to be had.

If this message turns out to be half as difficult to decode as this thread is suggesting, this is going to be a disaster for the aliens. When we finally meet up with them, first contact is going to consist of an angry human scientist walking straight up to their representative and punching it right in the proboscis for wasting everyone's time for so long. And thus will begin the great "Keep It Simple, Stupid" War of 3302.

I feel like probably a lot on here thinking 'too obscure, need more in-game clues'.

If a puzzle is too obscure, interest will wane. It happened with the barnacles, and it'll happen here.

The puzzle is not too obscure. The problem is people trying to read too much into what they have. The same thing happened with the barnacle search and I was just as guilty of it.

I already have a very nice set of coordinates now, thank you. Once I finish my noodles I shall investigate them further. No need for hints or clues. The image already has all the info we need.

If I am unsuccessful, I shall try a different angle. Literally.

Keen to see what happens if you scan one of the "key not present" data banks when there's a UP present.

Yep same here..

So far all we have are his words, no screens so until someone actually produces a screen I think we are wasting out time. It could even be a troll. Not saying he's lying but it would be a good troll.

Nope I'm not trolling. What I saw 100% was an "Organic Outcrop". I was in VR at the time and screenshots produced double image without the HUD so I cropped it out and posted (http://imgur.com/LO0jVbE). Shadowplay was inactive so no video either. Whilst I was writing the post the VR compositor powered down so when I came back to it I was physically out of the SRV with dead controls (VR issue). I had no choice but to log out and in again, but the outcrop was gone. I am massively frustrated by this. I spent some time looking for it but nausea kicked in so I called it a night. Re-attempted search again this morning and felt sick quite quickly (SRV on mountain not great in VR even on 90fps). So I reverted back to 2d screen and spent 1hr searching with still no luck.

Co-ordinates of the Organic Outcrop are at Merope 5c -26.4637 -156.4498

SpeedMATS can you confirm that this was same for you, or are you 100% sure about what you saw?

100% sure what I saw.

I believe this represents instructions to complete a Fourier transformation to unlock more data. Fourier transformation is the simplest way to transform a signal by excluding wave forms

The [ .. repreents the start of the locked transmission, the ..] represents the end

The time key shows the time to cover 1/4 of the circle is 1 second meaning the circule represents a 4 hz cycle.

the two lines at the bottom left of the circle represent the band range that need to remain after the filter is applied

What do people think?

But we are already doing a Fourier transform...

Every time somebody uses the word measured and exact in a sentence a kitten dies. Don't be a kitten killer. It may well be 30 degrees but it's not possible to differentiate 29.994 and 30.001 given the methodology. For instance for the other angle, we have 135 (90+45, eyeballed), 140 (measured), 138.5 (also measured), 137.51 (golden angle), 138.32 (argument of periapsis). All of which are plausible within the precision of the image.

There's some interesting points there. If we're supposed to measure the angle then the angle can't be used to describe an object more than a few hundred LY away. At the limits of measurement precision that starts to result in an error more than system separation (10 to 20 LY). In fact it pretty much ensures terrestrial. If we're supposed to derive it (e.g. 137.51 or 138.32) that has sufficient precision to then be used in a calculation to explicitly describe a line or distance accurate to thousands of LY.

Just my little bit of pedantic-ism.
...hey! lay off the kittens..the whole reason I am NorMonsta is cause when ever I occupy the couch to play games Puffymonsta and RoccaMonsta sit with me..Cats!, stop terrifying them

do you have a print of anything?
told you I WAS CAUGHT SHORT

you might need to read what a probe is..

I thought I could get away with a shorter sentence but apparently it will be impossible. I think I know what a probe is. Obtain info about the environment...All right. What's the point of making it accessible to humans though? I mean, are the inner workings of Voyager 1 and 2 also engraved on a plaque of some kind so that aliens can understand how they work (the probes)? (I don't know, maybe they did.) What I meant was that maybe the message was similar to the Pioneer plaque or Voyager's Golden Record. Does that make sense?

Visited Maia B area and probably nothing but there were convoys ("convoy dispersal pattern detected [threat 0]") and when you scanned cargo ships they had "inconsistent shield soak analysis" and "distorted shield cycle recordings". Other ships at convoy were with normal scans. I don't have cargo scanners with me.

Hi, my first post on forums and i dont know if iam posting in right thread or if i should create a new one. But what the hell...

Last 4 days a i had a total blast, one of the best times in my gaming "life"! Bought ViPER IV, fited it for explo/mission - i call it my universal fit and headed towards Merope. 2 hours after my arrival a found my first Barnacle, accidentaly the persistent one on 5C.
I found the barnacle in its "minned" state (which i did not know in that time). So i made a lot of screens, shared them with friends and headed to Merope 2a to see those Faraguts hovering above Barnacles.

1 hour latter i found the Faragut with its escort and 30mins after that i found the barnacle. What a surprise, when i saw that barnacle is guarded with "drones". Also this was the first time i realized that this barnacle is different, that its "secondary roots" are bigger, sharper. So i rode back to my ship, took down the drones in my Viper and went back to my SRV. What happened in the next 30 minutes was probably the best experience in Elite so far for me. I saw "the blooms", tried to shot them, opened cargo and harvested them. Found a lot of minerals/metals this way. But then i saw some kind of "Big Bloom". Did the same, but got Meta Alloy. And then it got me like blow into the head. What if UA's, Barnacles, UP's work in nearly the same way as Tiberium does in Command and Conquer series?

1)Probes are traveling through galaxy, looking for suitable worlds for terraforming and then transfer the signal "home" to Merope, where is some kind of "gateway" to Witchspace or wherever are they coming from.

2)The probes with "seed pods" come to those suitable worlds and send/plant their pods in the soil.

3)After a while main barnacle comes to life and grows. Barnacle starts to harvest various minerals and metals that are needed and organically transforms them (from the description of meta alloys) into the form of Meta Alloy. This results in the growth of secondary barnacle roots where small and big blooms grow. And later possibly in reproduction of said "primary barnacle" into more barnacles and basically colonising the whole world in coming months/years.

4) Its one huge living organism/plant/fungus that spreads this way.

5) The fact, that we found those 3 Alien objects is kind of logical. Probes are small, hard to spot. The same thing applies to vessels with seeds. What is "easier" to spot are Barnacles, which are bigger and on the same spot. So "they" were in our space long before we actualy found them and were already spreading, probing and scouting our space. Then the Barnacle on Merope 5C sprouted and things went crazy.

So what if - "they" are terraforming worlds to their needs so they can live on them?

PS: english is not my native lang. big greetings from Czech Republic! :)
PSS: kudos to those that to the hard work with probes and spectograms!

Has anyone tried using their ship's headlights to communicate with UAs or UPs, copying the 4 symbols as a guide (dots and dashes)?

I lazily browsed here and came up with R W D U, going left-to-right top-to-bottom, and can't think of what it means or what the rainbow curve signifies...but, do we all remember Independence Day and trying to communicate through light-signal morse code?

I'm mostly just curious if anybody's thoroughly tried that route before.
