UI/UX Feedback Megathread

Duplicating heaters/coolers already carry over the settings. I do that all the time, as I am building a complete zoo with heated pathways.

Quick update on the UI issues/megathread: the team have been using that post to look at what we can do.
  • Clicking on the locate button in the Zoo Overview Management animal list, habitat will now open the relevant info panel - We have a fix for this very soon.
  • I want to be able to sort any table of data by column, but currently some panels allow sorting and some don't. - This was fixed on release.
  • When clicking the Zoopedia button on an animal in the Animal Trading window or Exhibit Market window, I want the Zoopedia to open with that animal selected - This was fixed on release.
  • When opening the Zoopedia manually by clicking on the UI button, I want the Zoopedia to open to the same page it was on when I closed it - This was fixed on release.
  • I would like to be able to move multiple animals at once from my trading post to an enclosure - This was fixed on release for Sandbox, Challenge, and Career Mode.
  • I would like to see an alert when an animal becomes pregnant - This was fixed in 1.0.1
  • I want to receive an alert for each animal when they are ready to leave quarantine - This was fixed on release.
  • I want to receive an alert when my animals go from infant to adult state. - This was fixed on release.
  • I need to be able to filter and sort entries in the Trade History window. If this is not possible, then at the very least it needs to be listed in reverse chronological order, so that the last traded animals are at the top. Right now the window is unusable after you have traded a lot. - This was fixed on release.
All the other feedback from the Megathread is under investigation (which means the team is actively looking into it) and we will update you with more information when we have it! :)

There were a few other bits in the Megathread that we will not be changing. These are:
  • I want to be able to shrink the panel size of the lower panels down to a single row of items to make more room for the main game window on smaller resolutions. - UI does not support this.
  • I would like the Compare Mates window to remain open as a floating window alongside the Animal Market window so as to more easily compare different mates against market options. - UI does not support this.
  • I want more to be able to pin windows as a floating window that stays open so that I can more easily compare data contained in different windows.- UI does not support this.
  • I would like to see my CC price set for the trade, while the animal is on the auction (1 hour period). At the moment there is no possibility. If I noticed market price dropped or some species deficit appears, I would adjust my price immediately, if I knew what the price was. - By design.
Thanks for the continued support! <3 we'll continue to work on improvements and keep you posted as much as possible!

*Sorry for the copy paste, was trying to find the active threads ;)!

Hi Bo thank you very much for your reply. Looks like you have access to the original post from the beta forum. Would it be possible to send that to me in DM so I can update it here? Even if its just a copy/paste of the raw text from the post. I can reformat it.

Is there a specific reason why the "move multiple animals from trading post" is not enabled in Franchise mode?

I am 100% sure. I do that all the time, because setting them one by one is very tedious. Well, if it doesn't work for you, leave it on the list. All will be sorted out eventually.

I have updated the main post with additional items as well as reformatted it to clearly show what Frontier Dev has addressed, what they have commented on, what is planned, and what is still outstanding.

EDIT: I've also updated it with ALL the info that was in the Beta post but was missing here thanks to Bo getting that old post for me. Thanks @Bo Marit !

Updated for Patch 1.0.2

@Bo Marit I noticed this patch note: "Various localisation bug fixes.", does that address this item?
  • When playing in localizations other then English, lists should sort alphabetically based on that language
EDIT: Oops made a small mistake when shuffling items. Fixed that :)

Unfortunately due to the many languages we support, there wasn't enough time for this one, but it should be in the next one! Thanks for understanding <3

Isn’t anyone except me getting bothered by the fact that your (filtered) animal tab closes every time you send an animal to the wild/trade center or rehome them? To me that’s a big issue since managing a big habitat with a lot of animals always looks like this:

Open animal tab - filter for aimed species - choose the ones to release – Open animal tab again – filter for aimed species again – chose the ones to rehome – rinse and repeat..

I really think the animals tab should stay open during such transactions and also keep the filters you have active.

Would love to hear what you guys think about that and if it could be added to the list in case you agree.

In general I think its safe to say any applied filers in any window should remain, even if the window is closed and re-opened (The animal trading works this way).

It would also be nive to have a single button to clear filters in a window.

Hiya,

For this one:
  • As a player with bad eyesight, I want to be able to clearly see all UI elements, but some like the headers in many panels, have low contrast and are hard to read
We'd love to be able to help with that, are there any specific changes you'd need or elements you can point out that are problematic? Is it a colour change?
Let me know :)

Hey Bo let me get back to you on that one after work today. I do recall a few specific elements being called out but I need to dig into it in game to refresh my memory and verify that it didn't already get changed.

As I recall the main issue was that certain elements like the header in some panels had text nearly the same color as the background. However if you made the change mentioned before that made EVERY table sortable, its possible this already got updated.

(Personally have okay eyesight, just slightly colour blind and have some issues when there isn’t enough contrast between things, but there were a few that I noticed for your list)

One example I can think of (if I am not mistaken) is the Zoo Staff hire buttons, but maybe they were reworked since beta.
Aren’t they light gray on white?
(Also, should have a summary of what they do. I always forget which guys fix vandalism)
Can’t go check atm, will edit tomorrow.

edit 1: Maybe I am just stupid (very possible), but for some reason I keep confusing zoopedia and log buttons (they are not big and just look like gray blobs to me, unless I focus super hard).

also, not sure where this goes, or if I am imagining things, but has anyone noticed that the staff building signs in the tooltips do not match the signs on the actual building? Trade center and animal research (I think)

Hi Bo, here are a couple examples pulled real quick. The headers on tabs, and the "section" titles within a tab. Another example is the green text indicating how many advanced research items you have. I didn't do an exhaustive check of all UI elements, but assuming you guys internally have a color pallete defined somewhere you can easily run it through a contrast checker like the one I'll link below. For me, doing it by pulling colors in photoshop is a bit slow :)

As you can see though from the link to the checker, with these items, they are far below spec which is generally accepted to be between 3:1 and 4.5:1

Most of these are under 3:1 some even below 2:1

'Locate' button (shaped like map pin) currently centres the camera, but if double clicked, should set to track/follow the target.

As far as I know all locate pins when clicked open the respective staff or animal. This was highly requested and Frontier made it work that way. Centering on the target wasn't very helpful.

your (filtered) animal tab closes every time you send an animal to the wild/trade center or rehome them

I'd love for this to be changed. Filtering the zoo/animal tab is the best way I've found to get a good look at all of a species (count how many breeding females you have and what their genetics and ages are, how many babies you have, how old they are and which sex, apply/remove contraception), but like you said, if you move any of them anywhere (or bring up a specific animal's info and then click 'compare mates') you lose the zoo tab and have to reopen and refilter. There's so much good info I do it anyway, it's just a bit of a clunky process.

I don't know if there's a limit on open windows in the engine (presumably?), but even if the zoo tab has to close each time it'd be very useful to keep the filters.

Here's a QoL change I would enjoy very much:

- The multi-selection tool should allow us to select path extras (donation boxes, benches, bins, atms, etc).

It would be of great help when doing large changes in a zoo. Having to manually select each and everyone of these is a royal pain.
An alternative to this could maybe be that when removing the path, all path extras linked to said path be deleted along with it.
But I would love for us to have a quick way to get rid of the things.

Edit: Not that I'm lazy, but the amount on unnecessary clicking because of this is causing my old repetitive strain injuries to flare up... And since in franchise we always start with ugly building pieces and stuff, and then have to remake the zoo with the pieces we freshly researched... well there's a lot of deleting going on '^^
