Ultimate mining ship

You could have another collector limpet controller or another cargo rack where you have the fighter hangar. With that shield strength, you don't need one.

I don't think I'll get the t10, I have a t9 and it's a lumbering space pig... It does it's job well but if I had to take it into rings I'd probably kill myself

T10 is an absolutely lovely ship to mine in. My favourite mining ship and ship to fly in general... apart from when I'm in supercruise. Avoid doing loop of shames and you'll be fine heh

Power distributor is probably the most important module in a mining ship, and with the higher class Power Distributor; the T10 is more suited to mining than the T9. With G5 Charge Enchanced, weapons will recharge faster than the output of 3 mining lasers. Even though I only would do haz res mining inside my corvette, the T10 is the ship I like to have a quiet mining session somewhere in a pristine metallic ring without being constantly bothered by NPC pirates. Although it has a smaller cargo hold than the T9, it has more hardpoints and you can get pretty nice protection on it with shield boosters. If you plan on just doing casual mining in a ring with the T10 like I do, it's perfect for it.

You have wayyyy to much mining lasers for that few collector limpets. Or maybe the other way round. I have 15 collector limpets on my mining T9 (2x7A,1x5a,2x3a) and they cant keep up with my two mining lasers.

Corvette, 4 mining lasers, 3 class 5 collectors.

Two huge MC's with IMP Hammer for those annoying pirates, one PD, big shields and 336t of capacity for the rocks and limpets.

I usually stay at the RES after filling up and kill pirates for fun and bounties.

I prefer something a bit more nimble for mining, but admit it is not something I really like to do. I used my Corvette, simply changing out some internals and the two small hardpoints for mining lasers. Worked great and only took a couple of outings to unlock the engineers I wanted.

Having pirates show up was a nice break from mining, and gave me some extra stuff to scoop up. :)

EDIT: Ah...beat to the punch. I type too slow. ;)

I use two medium and two small for each of my mining vessels. Distributors tuned to keep charge from falling under full load.
Collectors can be minimized by ship positioning once the yield has been mined out. Faster you can mine the yield out, the better.
Most rocks are depleted just as the lasers have heated my ship to 80%..
then pitch up and z down to come to within a few hundred meters of the 'pile', which if you have mined properly; is small and compact.
Takes practice, but allows for only 3-5 limpets collecting at a surprising speed.

Small adjustments of ship position can be made at that time to maximize scoop-effort, or simply fire a few prospectors out while the last few chunks come to bin.

I use 8-13 prospectors at a time to try to minimize search time.

Top 3 ships are Vette, Conda and Conda.
I think of Cutters, Type 9 and Type 10's out there like an elephant or a hippo.. feeding on grass.. rarely moving.
Vettes and Condas are like Giraffes and Lions.. feeding quickly and efficiently.

Word Fun-
'penultimate' means second to last. Not second best. Now THAT'S pedantry for ya.

Vette is the best.
Cutter is OK if you are just going to strip mine every roid. As soon as you get picky, the vettes agility wins.

If you really want to use the cutter, put in a 6a shield instead. Stop wasting its best quality, those size 8 cargo slots

Excellent question!

I throw them in large groups at an area, and then use the contacts list to discover contents of all the asteroids they have landed on. Then i move to the next dozen.
If i find more than 2 painite lots, i have to get busy, or throw a new few out to remember where they are..
but generally after getting no hits on a dozen unique prospector tries, i temporarily disable all power to the prospector collectors[resetting them], move a short ways away, and try again.

Its wasteful, but allows the most information on the rocks i see in my immediate area.. organizing fire groups so that it works for you is your process.

Sometimes i use more cargo, rather than a 7A prospector on the Vette.. the Condas i use all run the formal-normal 5A and 3A.. giving 6 at a time.. which is fine.. but not as good as a 7A, a 5A and a 3A .. which is what.. 14.. thats 36 limpets in three 'spreads'.

Im mining right now.. and i timed how long from first shoot of a laser to a new roid, until all was collected. One minute one second.

I use my Beluga for mining... It is a bit light on the collector limpets, but why not do it with some nice style, the Beluga sure looks good while mining!

I would engineer the shield boosters and use some point defenses, regardless of the ship used.
Max size shield with unengineered shield boosters is really a waste.

Also, I'd put a MC on the huge hard point and 2 beams on the large ones. That's because of how hull penetration works.
