Unable to access preorder animals?

My husband bought the game for me on xbox. It did not allow him to buy it as a gift for some reason, so he had to buy it on his name. Now since it was bought in his name I am unable to access pre-order animals. Any fix for this? Can the ownership of the game be transferred to me? Or am I just screwed out of the pre-order animals for good?

From what I am looking at it seems its not possible to gift pre-orders so it would explain why he couldnt gift it.

So since the pre-order animals aren't transferring through gamesharing I am just not gonna be able to get them?
