Unconventional Tactics Designed to Distract "those using unsportsmanlike behaviour in an untoward fashion."

I find this thread hilarious.<snip>

That's the whole idea.

If I can easily escape from ganking wings in a DBS configured for combat, then anyone can do it in a speed build cobra. (and I'm getting old with slow reflexes, messed up joints and reading glasses).

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

3) Your own PvP skills and game mechanic knowledge aren't usually up to par with the bears you're going to be poking with that Cobra stick. You'll wind up getting mauled and seeing a rebuy screen more often than not, "high speed Cobra" or no. But hey, everyone - including me - has learned this lesson at one time or another in the past. Seems you're about to learn it yourselves in the near future.

Surely, some form of opposition is what your group has been looking for?

I still prefer the Cobra interdict, dump vegetables, blast away approach. That way you can actually keep doing it forever, or until you run out of vegetables, preventing them from attacking any other ships.

I think you won't have the time to drop anything after the interdiction. If the CMDR knows what to do, then there is no time to do anything beside boosting, chaffing and getting out of there as fast as possible.

Fly safe, fly fast, laugh at them

4) Some groups really hold a grudge bordering on the psychotic. We tend not to since we know it's just a game of internet spaceships and a laugh in good fun, but others take it far more seriously and you may wind up in some sort of silly vendetta where every time you venture out into Open you're hunted down and killed. Or your TS server gets DDoS'd (boy have we seen THAT one). Or you get doxxed.

So with those points in mind, as a friendly reminder you should be very careful what you wish for - you may just get it in spades.

Interesting. Is this a veiled threat to continue to grief people both in and out of the game, including doxxing those who oppose you?

Because that is what it looks like.

You may wish to make a statement emphasising that you will not go down that line. :)

I find this thread hilarious. Let me point out a few things you might not be thinking about as you plan this all out:

1) It's been tried before and has failed miserably. This is not a new idea.

2) You do know when you interdict one person in a wing you're not pulling over the whole wing, right? That one person in their own Cobra/Python/whatever just tells his wingmates in Teamspeak "Hmm...getting interdicted by a player Cobra. Don't worry about it, one person drop in with me in case she has friends, the rest of you stay in SC in case she jumps, then pull her over and kill her." And that's exactly what will happen. Total time wasted for the wing will be about a minute or two. Seen this happen time and time again.

I recommend you venture out into the YouTubes and Twitches and actually watch videos of the players and their compatriots you think are so bad you feel you must venture down this silly road.
You might just learn something. For free. And it won't cost you a rebuy screen.
Your points are good ones.

In the past it may have been just a few trying. Depending on how many, and how organized this could become, the results could be quite different.

Time will tell,,,,,,

Fly well Cmdr's.

It speaks volumes that players annoyed by this assume others will have TS servers, or be in the slightest bit concerned about dying in a game, and the assumption of a poor understanding of game mechanics will lead to such players getting slaughtered.

That's kind of the whole point. Wasting pew-pews time is the goal of all this, annoying precious PvP supremacists is the goal in and of itself. You can't "win" by killing them and showing them who's the PvP pro-bro, you already lose by simply being a PvP pro-bro who lets themselves attempt to show superiority.

It's delicious.

If it means more people using the humble Sidewinder and really getting into the Open side of things, then everybody wins. :)

If you make the mistake of just going to supercruise that can happen. But if you continue to increase the distance at some point you are going to be SO FAR away from the attacking ship that you will be able to leisurely select another system. Or just plain log out since it aint combat logging if their are no other ships on your screen to do combat with.

And of course it would be prudent to select a slower ship than yours.

By the by, does anyone know how much distance you have to establish before the other ship can no longer see you? 6km? 7km?

Exactly! The Sidey is a fun ship to fight / evade in too - had several fun encounters with FDL pilots who simply couldn't keep me in their sights for long enough. People seem to think I'm anti PvP - absolutely not, I am simply against PvPers who berate others for not being PvP pro-bros.

I've been running blockades in Cobras since there are blockades in the game, trust me, its possible, although the soup offering is totally unnecessary.

Don't let yourself be intimidated by their presumption of beeing a superior breed of player, just remember that they just shoot down defenceless trading ships all day long...

Or you can just go back into SC get interdicted again and high wake - or do an emergency drop - back in SC - rinse and repeat. Did this several times at Hutton.

Yes, the running bit works, I've done it "a few times". It would just cost me to much time to drop anything. Dropping vegetables (or beer, I think beer is better) would be a nice touch. :D

Noted for future reference......

Thanks for that tip!!!!

Their weapons will be unable to make damage long before that distance.

ANyway, the "others wait in supercruise and interdict you again and kill you" logic is flawed... If you are interdicted again, just submit and rinse repeat, Cobras don't run out of fuel after being interdicted twice. Actually if you are interdicted instead of interdicting, you will be able to jump back faster and they will stay in normal space longer, so double win.

My take was that he was joking in part at least - as are many of the other posts in thread.

But in the context of causing an enemy group to waste their time and resources by tying up their forces with distractions it's an entirely valid guerilla defence tactic.

I think he is right, I was joking more than anything. Just goes to show, to beat The Devil, you must first learn how to sin..

There is only one real threat to a speeding Cobra, which is the Imperial Clipper. But the Clipper has a harder time using fixed weapons than most other big ships.
