Unexplored, undiscovered, map issues?

Headed out yesterday on a ramble through the Black. today I ran into a puzzling map issue.

While navigating, I always check out the map to see if it has been discovered (displays a CMNDR name if discovered). If they are undiscovered I will stop and investigate to see if it's worth doing a system survey.

Today I found an unexplored system that displayed no discoverer's name, just unexplored. Since it was a compact system and looking for discovery credit, I surface scanned all of the planets and stars, I then checked the map and lo and behold, the map was now displaying an explorer's name, one that wasn't there before. Every other system that I have traveled to and had been discovered displays the credited discoverer when you open the system map and scroll over the planet/sun.

Something is not right here, or am I missing something.

I tried the next system in route, same thing, displays unexplored no name credit, but after I scanned it, a discoverer's name popped up on the system map.

An explanation would help. Thanks in advance.

Bugs are being reported with the discovery tags being lost at the moment (hasn't affected any of the systems on my list of awesome first discoveries yet *crosses fingers*) so it may be something related to that. Alternatively, dodgy net code *might* be just not pulling all the relevant data down the first time you looked at it

Bugs aside, it's also possible (if improbable) that someone just happened to sell their exploration data for that system while you were doing your scanning, and so the discovered by tag was added between your two peeks at the system map

It has happened to me from time to time.
My impression is that if the servers are laggy, they don't send the discover tag right away, so when you look at first it's not there but if you look again after a few seconds it's tagged.

My assumption is that there is a database of first discovery data and the game client does a database query when you open the system map.
If the query returns a match to the system you're looking at it shows the tags.
If the query is delayed or times out, you can't see the tags.

I've noticed "first discovered" tags can take a little while to load.

Same thing here. I didn't accidentally click on something to unshow "discovered by" info right? There is no such button right?

That commander sold his Exploration data exactly while you were scanning the system [noob]

I also had strange issues with first discoveries. First off, I'm just starting to explore outside the bubble and thought I'd do so by completing a ship-an-explorer-to-collect-data type of mission with barely more than 1k ly (V380 Orionis).

Upon return, I sold the first page to one faction and to my surprise, there were lots of first discoveries and I even got bonuses for some of them. I checked with the map for some of the systems and sure enough, my cmdr showed up.

The next day I went to sell the remaining data and it had no first discovery, so when I googled on of the systems I "discovered" (LHS 1828) it was discovered by 2015 already. And yes, checking the map again, my name was gone.
