This may or may not be of any use, but here goes.
I'm out exploring in my ASP, I am not far out around 500LYS or so.
I noticed a strong signal source out in SYNUEFAI CY-F D12-74.
"That's ok" I thought, "I brought my A class this time and guns too", what could go wrong?

So in I go to find one of those "things" yall seem to be playing with.
Nothing else around at all so I pop my scoop to bring it home.
We it turned out to be a bad move, go figure.
I noticed my shields going like it was Christmas, turns out it was two Anacondas and a T9.
I didn't have time to check the others, needless to say I shut my scoop and ran.
Shields went in about 20 seconds, so I was boosting like mad.
My shields came back on line, so I turned around to go get the "thingy", which was gone.

I'm coming home to fix my boat, then I'm going back out again.

Hope this helps in some way.

UA sighting! In unusual places...

Questions that have been asked before and I think should be asked again, hypothesised and tested -

1.a. Why does it transmit morse? Morse is human; this does not look human.
b. Why does it transmit the human designated name of the nearest star?
c. Why is the morse weird? Why not ordinary morse? Because it’s alien and getting it a bit wrong? Something else?
d. What other signals are there? Are we missing any because they are not human and we don’t recognise them? Have we found them all but are failing to decode them? There are reams of raw data out there that haven’t been analysed conclusively. And, things have changed - we need new data.

2.a. Why does it explode? Not supposed to be in vacuum? Something else?
b. Why is the explosion glitches with that space rip? Don’t see these glitches elsewhere - are they glitches at all, or supposed to be that way? I know there was work that looked like the shape of the rip was a shadow of the object. Again, why? The footage of those glitches from different angles is interesting because it looks as though the rip happens some distance from the object, and on a certain angle to it. What if we placed a pilot there?
c, What is it ejecting when it explodes?

3. When can we have some cake?

Let's science!

I think these are really good questions. Unfortunately, I can only grasp at answers & we don't really have much in-game tooling to analyze this. The fact that the UA knows about its environment (nearest body/station, not just star) & broadcasts about it seems very important.

If we look for similar behaving objects in-game, we don't actually have a good match.

* Nav beacon - Yes, it broadcasts Morse. But it's stationary & only know the star name. We don't know if it has nav data beyond where it was dropped & if it can broadcast other stellar bodies' names.
* Discovery Scanner - Yes, it can determine the bodies around it in space. But other than progress/completion sounds, it doesn't make noise (AFAIK? System Map doesn't count, because your ship has one even without a scanner on-board). No morse involved.
* Ship Radio - Plays sounds when pointed at stellar bodies, but a musical sound based on the EM emissions from that object (IIRC from reading audio dev materials). No morse/broadcast.

We don't even have any other strange behaving cargo AFAIK:

* Toxic waste leaks but that's purely visual?
* Black boxes talk & ask to be returned to the nearest starport, no clue if this output changes between systems - MAYBE A GOOD TEST?
* ???

Establishing a frame of reference on the UA is difficult for me, as there's nothing to directly compare it to. It acts mostly like cargo, the ship's computer thinks it's a "Canister" & identifies it as "Illicit Cargo" in most systems, but cargo has limited uses in the game (buy it, transport it, steal it, scoop it, destroy it, sell it).

So i'm debating whether or not i should sculpt some UA's for people that want them but i'm not sure if it would get me in trouble with FD. They wouldn't be for sale or anything but i still feel kinda iffy about it. also, i'm not sure any one would want to give some random guy on the internet their address lol

Good test indeed!

Oh dear lord YES! squeeze it and it makes the honk with some puts. Almost like a tribble.

If ED was Disney IP then these would already be rolling off a production line in China by now and on their way.

And they'd come with a commemorative pack of biscuits.

Edit... Can you imagine a child's reaction when you gave it one to cuddle when they were spooked at night?

'That's right, you just squeeze here and it'll keep you company'

...

[Roar] 'Agh! Dad! This thing's haunted!!! Kill it! Kill it with fire!'

Okay I'm just brainstorming here - but to me if the front of a UA opens up and emits something when it dies, it kinda reminds me of a plant, and the firefly type things might be spores? And the SAP 8 containers.. what do plants have in them "the fluid which circulates in the vascular system of a plant, consisting chiefly of water with dissolved sugars and mineral salts."..

Also, this might have been done but.. the UA looks like it has 12 canisters attached.. has anyone tried carrying both a UA and 12 SAP8 canisters and then ejected them at once?

We could carry this all out in Mobius, or we could create our own group specifically for UA research, which I propose to name the "Interesting Times Gang" :)

Do you really think these UA constitute an Outside Context Problem?
If we're taking names, I'll have "No Fixed Abode"
What would that make you? "Sleeper Service"? :)

I think you are both starting to go slightly Eccentric. I've already taken "There Must Be Intelligent Life Out There Somewhere...As There Certainly Is None Here" for a ship name. TMBILOTS for short.

Edit: "Can Whales Be An Outside Context Problem?" is reserved for the name of my next ship.

I'm curious about something that I haven't seen listed on the wiki. Did anyone try to see if the Trinkets of Hidden Fortune alter the UA in any way? Maybe with SAP-8s present too? It's a long shot, of course, but who knows.

Thanks for your reporting CMDR!
For the long run SSS hunter it sounds more to an: "AI Relics" trap. Also seldom but not so rare like "UA"-
Without at least a screenshot nobody can say for sure...
I'm sure the one or other will try the region. But hopes are low.

We salute you!

Edit:
>it was two Anacondas and a T9
This don't match for an AI relics trap. T9 is strange and unseen (for me) in an pirate group.
