@ RatKing15 - I share Lord Zoltan's inability to view because of Android affliction when having to try keep up during time away from pc.

Any chance of a YouTube upload? It seems important... Thanks

I also can't seem to connect, it just times out after I click "start watching". I'm on a MacBook at the moment, too lazy to get up off the sofa and try the PC.

I for one am really pleased to see this come up agian. I honestly felt we were on to something with the biscuits.

This, believe it or not, is an empire biscuit

FD has been pretty clear I think that dark systems, (originally planned in the DDA/F I believe?) have not been implemented. Less clear if they may still be on the infamous "roadmap". I suppose it is always possible they may have added some, but I have doubts. Example: Soontill was supposed to be one of these, but it appears on the map.

Oh, and try a digestive biscuit.

Am tending towards 'a*se biscuit' right now...

Yeah try He Bo - don't know what with though.

Broken biscuits?

Has to be said, twitch is mystifyingly poor. The app, in particular is a UA-level mystery to me.

Can I ask a stupid question?

There are no stupid questions, only bad biscuits.

Has anyone tried just listening for a matching sound on the Galaxy Map? We know that on the system map, different planet types make a different radio noise. Out on the Galaxy map, it seems stars do the same, but I haven't found a catalog like there is for the planet types, so don't know if they are random.

Think about it: Frontier has said that we are thinking about this way too hard, they've also told us to listen to the Artifacts. We keep transfixing on the Morse code, but all that does is tell us where we are already at. Maybe the rest of the sound is what we need to be listening for on the map. The 2 sounds combined is what would allow the devices to act as a navigational aid: Current location + destination.

Granted, hovering the cursor over 400 billion stars would be a bit... monotonous, but it seems like a pretty obvious solution to me. All the clues about the Rift, etc. might help narrow down where to start listening.

Not sure if this is on the wiki (which TBH I have not even looked at that much) but back in the days of Thread 1 this was indeed discussed, and I believe the consensus was that all stars on the starmap shared similar sounds based on their classification (I think there is a generic sound when you first have the system selected, then a more specific classification-sound if you zoom in on it IIRC). That said, we might have missed something, or FD may have changed something since then, so feel free to try this. Folks looked at all the obvious candidates at the time - Polaris, Pleiades, etc. and even some less obvious ones - Eclipsing Binary Pulsars - damn you Drew Wagar, damn you to heck! ;-) - but we may have missed something here, and a fresh set of eyes is always good. I believe we also tried listening to stars targetted in the HUD while in normal space, and discovered they all made the same creepy sound no matter what you pointed at.

Someone a long way back also posted about planet types making sounds, again based on the classification of the planet. I think there may even be a thread on this in the Exploration forum somewhere if you wanted to check it out as well.

Not a stupid question at all. I suggested this a while ago, so I'm biased ;)

I thought I heard something very similar to the overtones "music" today, looking towards California Nebulaue from near the plague systems. Tried to locate it at Cal Neb but not there. Somewhere closer to home I think.

Clavains answer is better^^

Chocolate hob please

U/f the 'clues about the Rift' are nothing. Linked to Kahina Loren, who has been removed from the universe effectively because the character's creator could no longer keep her story going (take a look at a post of mine from earlier today).

This is exactly what got me thinking about it. I'm on my way towards the North America Nebula and while scanning around the map I heard the clicking noise. I turned the music off, cranked the volume in my headphones, and am currently floating about the map seeing if I can pick something up.

Can't hurt, best of luck! o7

I think you will eventually hear that clicking/chittering noise no matter what you are looking at in the HUD if you lock onto a system, and then shutdown all your systems. There is a long loop of a soundtrack that plays/repeats, and usually (for me anyways) the clicking/chittering seems to happen right around the time my viewport ices up, so not sure if it is supposed to be the scary sound of you being encased in ice, or the scary sound of alien bugs somewhere out there.

Yeah the chittering is definitely just a random noise that happens everywhere, but hearing it just happens to be what put the idea in my head.

Hey does anyone have a map of the permit locked regions that FD seem to be reserving? Maybe try listening in there.

Neither. Its microcracks formng in the canopy. Get it fixed as soon as possible, and for gosh sakes dont tap on it with your finger.

Ratking, what freaks me out is that the Bovomit sector all requires an unknown something--doesn't even say permit. So, maybe, it requires that unknown artefact since what is required is unknown (not that it says unknown specifically.) If people want me to I could head out to bovomit to find out what is over there.

Man, that's a long trip to find out it's a Galaxy Map typo...

A very long way. I am roughly 1/4 of the way there (in the Formidine Rift at the moment) but have not been able to press that "login" button for some time now, other than to check the Galaxy Map or to maybe explore a single system in the vain hope there might be something new and interesting in it, then I get morose and do a Zoltan and log out and go read or something. Or come back here and whinge about it.

Plus, Erimus and others have already been to Bovomit and guess what - because it is permit-protected you can't get in. And I don't think you would make it that far with a UA, even in a wing. Or even with several wings.

Regor Sector maybe, with a wing and enough care and planning and AMS units.
