2nd the interesting point, there was a link to a Screenshot of MB saying if raxxla was in the game there would never be any hints or clues, seeming to imply that it would have to be found by players. This may mean it's merely an Easter Egg but it gives me hope that there is stuff they'd never tell us up front!

Have you got a link for this? I'm interested in when he said that, as they may have changed their minds since the Sap 8 mission seem to hint at Raxxla.

If they don't provide hints then I doubt Raxxla will ever be found as the galaxy is just too big to stumble across it. My attempts to find the Voyager probes have really driven home just how difficult it is to find something even in a single system if you don't have navigational assistance.

linking a post from a link sharing website :D oh the irony

6) about the canister's lights: I've noticed them a thousand years ago, in the first thread, and my post was soon forgotten.

Interesting. Link?

It's even more ironic, "There will be no clues", coming from the one sole person from whom we have our solitary clue.

Lack of sleep due to toothache and thunderstorms makes a grumpy old man grumpy.

LARVAE.... PUPAE.... ADULT

Scarab Beetle guys .... The drawings on side of the cans are Larvae

The drawing on the head of UA is a Pupae .......

And we know what Scarabs like .... I don't suppose anyone has dumped biowaste on a UA yet?

The similarity between the Pupae and the UA is insane. Don't see anything about biowaste on the wiki (unless i skipped over it), just toxic waste. We must know for science!!

I realise you guys are probably sick of audio analysis but I thought I'd have a go at treating the audio recording in a few more unusual ways to try and work out if there is any information in there. I'm coming from a radio-astronomy background not an audio background, so I thought perhaps I'd have different input. For reference I used the recent "oops I blew up bob" youtube since it's long.

I first took a dynamic spectrum (i.e. form power spectrum every so many samples) which I think is the same as the "audio visualiser" images.

Not very interesting right? Good clear samples of the various honks and chirps though. One thing I saw is that there are clearly two "types" of chirp (the things that sound like "trombones" when sped up, a kind of "fat" and "narrow" feature. They have quite different spectra. To look at this further, I took the Fourier transform of each power spectrum, forming essentially the auto-correlation at each time sample.

It is quite interesting. You can see the two types of "chirp" here, as well as a third mode that does not correlate with the other two. All three modes also shift in frequency with time.

The same three chirps shifting in time is seen in other UA videos, but I won't waste more thread-space with images unless someone really wants it.

I tried "transcribing" the high/low (n.b. the fatter middle ones are the low chirps, and the lower narrower brighter ones are the high chirps) sounds, but as with everyone else I couldn't see any obvious pattern. I suspect that this kind of detailed analysis of the sounds is probably not that useful.

I wonder if you can talk with the ua,
simply by using the local area chat....
Would be so easy to figure it out, if it could talk back...
You could ask it where "momma" is,
or "Raxxla"....
*sigh*

Yesterday was enthusiastic, but not a break through,
yet i will have a longer look at the herculis cluster, maybe we find something there.

There has been plenty of local chat while people have been viewing a UA. No change from the UA has been noticed. We've also tried chatting to it directly but that's not possible.

Is there a master list of audio recordings of UA's we can download to analyze? There's a ton of youtube videos out there, but I was hoping someone had already compiled the audio only files along with the location of the recording.

Cmdr Britain (bitstorm on forum) links the audio only from his YouTube's as a matter of course, linked from his sig, and you should be able to figure out how to grab them YouTube videos with a bit of googling ;)

There's also a sub page on the wiki linked from the main wiki page, with a list of a lot of the recordings.

So, I've been following this thread for quite some time and the effort that some of you have gone to to prove, or disprove the various ideas and theories conceived by this communtiy is highly commendable. It must also be highlighted, once again, how civilised this forum has remained after so many posts without degenerating into abuse or farce.

But I have noticed the growing frustration among many of you as test after test throws up only more questions than answers. There are now so many conceivable tests and so few UAs amongst the community that finding the solution, however simple or complex it may be, will be sheer luck.

Now it has been said by FD that no more clues will be given so as not to risk giving the solution away too easily. While I wholeheartedly agree that too many clues will spoil it for everyone, I feel it's also time that the community, and FD, admit that something needs to change. Sure, this could come as an outright clue from a developer, but it could be just as useful to increase the frequency of UAs so that more tests can be done, or to develop a clever, multilayered story through Galnet that, at the very least, points us in the right direction. It seems to me that, for all of our great collective ideas, that's the one thing we lack, direction.

Nice to have you on board, if you zoom in a bit in the frequencies of the chittering you can !make out the Morse code quite clearly, that's how I've managed to transpose the ones I've listened to...still training my ear!

I have some sorrowful news and some interesting news from reddit.

1st, the sad news. I have seen several (more than 1) posts that regard the guy who claimed to have "shared a cab with the devs" to be an actual dev himself. They take his word as strongly as MB's "have you listened to them" no one seems to care that the guy was suspended

1.Treat things you find on Reddit with extreme caution.....wouldn't be the first time someone hoaxed or just plain lied on there about this kind of thing......I mean they shared a taxi with a dev?

2. Is there a link to that conversation on the actual forums? Erimus if you are reading can you confirm/debunk this?

I'm strangely lazy about some things. But yes, I can download the audio from youtube. I just thought maybe someone had done it already and made a handy gdrive or dropbox of every UA sounds file with notes. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.
