So I thought about the ships being close together and thought I'd try to find some evidence to maybe and I think this video of mine should support it somewhat........

https://youtu.be/XenMIkJWgxA?t=6m13s

I hear 7 purrs-ish at one point when the anaconda is away and when it's close they jump down to 3 purrs-ish, anyone else? Because then....well it could mean two things (to me)......more ships or just bigger ships around it.....

That is simply what I'm asking to do in the last week or so...

So I'll repeat it, for simplicity and to be as clear as possible:

1) Wing up in a wing of four, BETTER IF IN BIG SHIPS: the mass of the ships could be important. That's why I've equipped my python for the occasion.
I still think the magic number is 5 ships, thought. So FIVE SHIPS, if you like, 4 winged + 1.
2) Deploy the UA
3) Bring the ships as close as possible to it.
4) record as many video as you can from each ship.

Expected result:

The Purrs will completely disappear, and something new will happen eventually:

hypothesis:
Some new previously hidden sound will show up with a new hint.

It's been tried, and disproven.

By the way, has no one ever wondered what the NPC convoys that have them are doing with them or taking them? Maybe try following them.

Yes people have wondered. But the convoys just seem to randomly jump around even repeating systems they've already been to.

The convoys will often jump out very quickly, meaning you enter the system and you see multiple wakes so after a few jumps there's a reasonable chances of losing them.

Given the rarity it's not so easy to properly test out because obtaining the UA is often the main goal, but generally people who've followed seem to be of the opinion it's probably just random and that they are not actually heading anywhere.

Try following a normal military convoy, the behavior appears to be the same.

It's possible the sounds are being "signalled" across clients and the flaky P2P results in data being lost, hence less purrs.

God knows weve seen whole sentences just not appear in ED chat with multiple people. =(

So, do we need our ships to hump each other?

Wait...

Hump...

Hump!

HUMP!

HUMPBACK WHALE!

Capturing a Humpback Whale to answer a mysterious cylinder-shaped probe that made whale noises was the main plot point of Star Trek IV! Leonard Nimoy was the lead role in Star Trek IV - and Leonard Nimoy Station and the UA were added in the same patch!

Guys, I think we're on to something!

Facepalm...

It's so obvious I'm embarrassed we didn't spot it sooner!

Rizal

I'm going out again tonight and over the weekend

If we bag one do you have a trusted Cmd to leave it with ? BTW it will be called "Pandora" :)

Thank you CMDR!
I will meet you this night then, I've sent you a friend request.

BTW, I suggest you to NOT hunt in Timocani: even yesterday, when I was flying from Furuhjelm to Bhritzameno, I've found a lot of SSS just after exiting from FS into SC, entered just some of them, and they were all Hafnium convoys... So, as I said already some time ago, could be a good tactic to jump from one system to the other, inside Helsey Tour area, and wait for the first SSS to show up almost immediately. It usually happens while charging FSD for the next jump. All you have to do is stop FSD from charging and enter the SSS that appeared just in front of you. I found two UA convoys in this exact same way, always in the FIRST SSS that spawned in front of me.

Hmmm, are you sure it's not just overlapping? If it's not, then it's indeed a new one for me: HHH HHL (..- ...) not sure about the length bit, could be (... ...)

Exactly, wrong word: they are overlapping. I'll edit its name.

I still find it interesting, as they are both identical at the beginning and in the middle as well. See my post for images and a small analysis.

I still can't believe that FD is really giving us a riddle that needs all the fancy theories here.
especially with the new galnet article. a clear hint.

I believe that the goal is to take the UA somewhere. And the hint to where 'somewhere' is, is in the morse.
We know the morse gives us the closest celestial body, and if we find a system where the UA morse does give a different name than 'our' galaxy map, then we found the right system. And then that is the system that needs to be travelled with the UA.
I would think the existence of the UA in the system instance triggers new information to be found.

If I had a UA (and time to play ;-) I would search the systems that are potentially on the way from the last known SS1 location to Azaleah.

just my two cents.
At least it would be easy and obvious enough, yet there is enough possibility to miss it ... like we apparently did.

Yup - this is basically a variation of Zoltan's "dark worlds" idea. The question though, as usual, is where to try and take it, given the near-endless possibilities. Hopefully RedWizzard's work above will shed some light on possible systems to search beyond the usual suspects of Soontill, the missing Voyagers, Sirius, etc. Which all should really be checked out in some detail, celestial body by celestial body, by someone with a UA I think. Given the Galnet today I am thinking Sirius and any possible link to the disappearance of the President might (should?) be falling off this short list.

DB actually said we were close once? When was that?

Also I'm not sure this test has been done but has it been tried to go on a rapid fire hyperspace trip? Meaning it doesn't matter where you go per se, as long as you keep jumping on to a next location? I'm trying to see if the UA needs somehow to be exposed to witchspace. I think this obviously because of the Thargoid connection and maybe because the UA might need to reach X amount of witchspace exposure or system jumps to do the next thing, plus it's been said before that it looks as if its phased into witchspace with the blue blur etc.

The Wiki doesn't mention David Braben saying that, was it in a video or on the forum? Just want some context around it really.

I think it was in the LaveCon 2015 Q&A if I'm not mistaken.

Ok, However We were going to collect a data set on SSS Spawn rates as in my earlier post #8706 However I have had no volunteers so your call I am happy to follow :)
the "Lapsed Pacifist" is currently docked just outside Timiconi, We wont be on till around 7:30 so met up where and in what group ? :)

Sub CMD Outspan is currently running a trade route in our T9 about 120 ly away. we have a shuttle ready to get back to the LP later on.
Need to put some credits in the bank. LP needs better thruster's :)

I'm reading on the wiki that Azaleach has been visited, with UA (from what I understand) in cargohold (on-board), but has it been dropped into deep space to listen to the morse?

I'm charging bags and luggage on my car right now ;)
I hope to be online at around 9pm BST (10pm CEST my time).

My ship is docked in Bhritzameno as usual: I plan to go towards Azaleach and around Helsey tour's systems.
In my opinion Azaleach is still the "center" of everything... ;)

According to the Galnet News: "She saw the transport break open only metres from her large window as she approached the station."

So it was destroyed before the impact. If it is indeed an assassination, it would explain somehow why there where no escaoe capsule.

T9s are huge, windows are small. It might've broke apart a few meters from the windows somewhere on the hull. Consider this as well.

Tldr

If the UA destroys ya ship has anyone actually let it destroy it or do they keep passing it around?

There is a repair button, y'know...

Anyone tried killing the FSD with a UA onboard while traveling in sc yet?
Crazy idea to go with my rapid fire hyperspace experiment. What is the fastest a ship will go in supercruise? What if you hold a UA in the hold hit up maximum warp at SC and cut the power to the FSD? What if the UA steps in and flings you to witchspace to wherever?
