Unpopular Opinions

How is this unpopular?
have you met the community every dlc is apparently the last one we will ever see. This whole place is full of people prepping for the end of times every year we get comments like this is going to be planet zoos last year by both just the general community and prominent creators. But as I see it until they need the dev team for another game planet zoo isnt going to stop releasing dlc anytime soon.

Nobody wants PZ support to end, however realistically support will end. This is not a matter of opinion, just how the gaming industry works.

Yeah but I think we can take a break from doom talk, from what we learned from that video about the financial report a couple days ago it seems like we have a few more packs to go. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got support all throughout 2024.

The financial report said they plan on continuing support until the end of FY24. That's May. Realistically, the only future DLC we can rely on is December, unless more content packs have been added to the ovldata with the Oceania Pack.

i have a few
1. twilight pack is great and doesn't deserve the hate
2. flying birds isnt a priority, and most likely is a waste of development (if we get flying birds it's going to be a closer pack, and frankly i dont see them as necassary)
3. the black lava rock doesnt need to be flexicolour
4. i only want small new world monkeys and the golden snub nosed monkey (personal bias)
5. more butterflies for the WE
6. twilight has the best scenery of any pack
7. the malaysian tapir is perfectly fine
8.i dont want the walrus
the list goes on....
i would love to hear the responses for my hot takes
1. yes
2. also yes we may get one but that's it
3. double yes lava is really only one colour but I do hate the colour should have been darker orange
4. we definitely need new world monkeys but there are definitely other monkeys that deserve a chance to be added
5. yes but I want moths and other flying bugs more
6. This is an extremely wild opinion twilight excluding like the roof pieces has way too specialised of scenery pieces they are good but simply not as versatile as the pieces from conservation like the crates, hoses and other tools which have the capacity to be used in any zoo not just a Halloween or European style zoo. I do however think the aquatic pack is not as useful as everyone says it is and that the twilight build items are good for what they are.
7. agree
8. this is fine I guess I wanna see it but everyone's opinion is different

yes the game will eventually end that is a fact but when is a matter of opinion based on speculation
because who knows when the game will end the sims 4 has sustained itself off dlc for 9 years so who is to say that planet zoo cant do the same anything is possible.

In the video they posted going over the report they said planet zoo is still one of their top profitable areas and said something like “like Jwe2, Planet Zoo will continue with PDLC”. Now this doesn’t confirm dlc for all of 2024 but the way he says it and words it puts the impression he’s talking about more than one pack, making some believe we could see DLCs for the majority of 2024.

Unpopular opinions:
  • The two scenery packs this year are better and have a stronger theme than last years.
  • Follow up on last point, the scenery from the Tropical Pack doesn’t get enough credit. Its pieces are really useful and I feel like it’s gonna be overshadowed by the Oceania Pack cause it’s also tropical themed.

Realistic analysis is not "doom talk". It's not like after the africa pack where people were "doom talking" because they thought no interesting animals were left to add.

The financial report only spoke of FY24, which ends in May. The game MIGHT go on for a few more years, but realistically looking at the diminishing interest and social media engagement of each dlc, support will end sooner rather than later. Especially when considerin that Frontier is operating at a loss, as revealed by the financial report.

FY24 ending in May allows for one more pack in Easter as well. Planet Coaster finished up in June 2019, so there's also a possibility of one last DLC in June I suppose.

The Sims 4 exists under such wildly different circumstances that it's incomparable. The lifetime of The Sims games is extended by official support for modding, not to mention a core fanbase considerably larger than Planet Zoo's. I think people on this forum especially often forget how absolutely niche park simulators are. JWE has brand recognition to help it along, but PZ doesn't. We're a small corner of the gaming world.

Definitely better off comparing notes with Planet Coaster. That is our frame of reference. We've already passed the lifespan of PC so we're kind of squeezing everything we can out at the moment, but, if we're calling it "doom talk", then "the end is nigh, woe unto us all."

Edit: PC ran from November 2016 with its last DLC released in June 2019. That's only two and a bit years of life. PZ on the other hand released in November 2019 and we're currently nearing November 2023. That's four years. If we optimistically suggest that the "last" pack will release in June 2024, that's four and a half years. Pretty damn good.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I have another one:

- All the recent talk about PZ2 is kind of annyong to me. Chances are, there will be a sequel, but I am pretty sure it is quite far in the future and it is very weird to me that people contantly make long analyses about it, while the first game is still actively developed.

They put out a video too where the CEO said that as there is clearly demand for more packs they have multiple more in the works. I don't have the link ATM. It's nothing concrete, but it gives me hope for beyond December.

Frontier is operating at a loss, but PZ is generating a positive ROI as revealed by the CEO and their recent annual report placed it in the same category as JWE2 in terms of profitability.

Unless, Frontier can be assured of an alternate revenue stream from a new game they will not give up PZ. They won't know whether a new Planet game is a success until 2025 (assuming November 2024 release), so we can reasonably expect DLCs to continue for the entire 2024.

The Sims (and PC) can't be compared to PZ precisely because PZ still has a lot more potential when it comes to adding animals. The diversity of the animal kingdom knows no bounds and if we say that Sims ended when they exhausted all DLC possibilities, PZ still has a long way to go before that point. Even if they don't do any flying birds, one full year of DLCs worth of content would be easy.

Planet Zoo is not small compared to JWE, we sold several times as many copies even without the aid of console. Imagine if PC was also on console? Also no IP payments are owed to any other company for their "brand". Frontier has complete freedom and latitude to develop PZ however they want, with an artistic freedom they don't have with JWE. This is why Frontier will be eager to develop PZ for as long as possible.

I agree it is frontier most profitable solo game so they would be stupid to pull support the only way I see complete support loss is if frontier goes under. However they may plan a sequel which would kill support for the first game and if it is anything like jw2 compared to its first game it would be incredibly good for frontier financially. This is the ONLY way I see support stopping any time soon.

The sims has never and will never officially support mods the closet they have got is cursed forge making mods easier to install. Whilst yes a zoo game is more niche than a life simulator I still think the comparison is ok since developmentally wise it makes some sense the are both the top of their respective market having no other major competitors, they both operate on a similar system releasing dlc containing both build items and gameplay items in varying amount with a major base game update on pack release. Planet zoo has a better hold of its gaming niche than the sims and the sims has a more prevalent modding community than planet zoo also a roller coaster game is even more niche than a zoo game.
you seemingly forget that the only thing stopping zoo tycoon 2 from still being incredibly popular was planet zoo. a game first released in 2004 was the headliner for a whole genre of game for 1 and a half decades.
planet coaster on the other hand is also a good proxy but due to planet zoos continued success and active involvement by the pr team they just made a tiktok not something a dying games pr team would do I think the timeline will be off but it is definitely a possibility.

what video? also the doom talk will never stop as much as I want it to. I have already accepted we will never know when the game will end and I truly don't care if it ends tomorrow or in 4 years I wish people knew how to be content instead of constantly assuming the worst and dragging everyone down with them.

I would love to see this video could you find a link if not what was it called.
