Honestly, there’s so many “unpopular” pack ideas I could totally buy into. The reason I have such strong opinions right now about Frontier’s DLC rosters is simply because of the likely limited support PZ still has planned for it. If Frontier were to come out and say PZ will still be receiving additional DLC for at least another two years, then I’d be onboard with pretty well anything. The problem is though, Frontier definitely will not be making any public statements about how many more PZ DLC are planned or how long support will continue. Because of this, we can only make evidence-backed guesses for how Frontier will handle the game’s support. If we look to previous titles like PC, we find a support span of about 3 years after initial release. This year will be PZ’s third year on the market.
As for fun DLC ideas that don’t seem to be highly-requested, there’s a number of small regions, repetitive/similar biomes, and taxonomic classifications that I feel allow for some really fun additions to PZ’s roster. The
American Southwest is home to a variety of well-known species, such as jackrabbits, peccaries, armadillos, roadrunners, burrowing owls, skunks, quails, and one of my personal favs the Black-footed Ferret. Though some would find overlap with the soon-to-come Wetlands Pack, I’d love to see a
Freshwaters Pack. It’d be the perfect opportunity to introduce some fully-aquatic species like the West Indian or Amazonian Manatee, Arapaima, Koi Fish, Alligator Snapping Turtle or Giant South American Turtle, a freshwater stingray or eel, Piranhas, catfish, and any of the numerous shorebirds/waterfowl families still absent. Heck now that I think of it, I’d even be all about an
Amazon River Pack. And don’t even get me started on all the taxonomic orders/families that could easily be full packs of their own, especially those with little to no representation currently in-game. All the
large reptiles, birds, small mammals, fish, invertebrates.. I could go on
Even packs with little to no focus on introducing new species could be really neat if they provide useful scenery and guest items/interactions. A
Gardens Pack full of unique plants (maybe even some fungus, moss, and mushrooms), gardening items/tool props, greenhouse pieces, and maybe an insect or two (hint hint, butterflies and bees) would be brilliant. How cool would it be to design a fully customized greenhouse or butterfly house that entertains/educates guests too? Other interesting, scenery-focused options could be a
Zoo Architecture Pack (with an emphasis on animal housing and “backstage” areas),
Flora Pack, and
Entertainment Pack that could introduce more guest-focused options like playgrounds, petting zoos, additional transportation/rides, and carousels. The one thing about Planet Zoo is there’s no shortage of DLC opportunities.
