Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

A number of stability issues are being addressed as part of Update 13. It won't be long until we can follow up with more information on expectations here.

We're collecting all of the current questions coming out of this thread, just to let you know and will be with you asap o7
Looking forward to those details. Update 12's been catastrophic from my perspective.

Interesting that this is happening now and not however many updates ago the last big optimization push was since the intermediary time from then to now will have not significantly impacted horizons 4.0 performance so it's just wasted time that could have been spent resolving the issue that this merging intends to solve.

I guess that means there's quite a lot more to come or why go thru the trouble of doing the merge now. Though i guess a narrative that takes place in a location only an "optional" dlc can access would be a non-starter. But that need would have to be really really important to justify all of this last minute development cost in merging back the playerbases.

Anyways, i look forward to the super secret foot thargoid conclusion to this current narrative plot. We'll probably never enter trade relations with thargoids and add alien stuff and interact with them as a sentient species ...but hopefully it'll make for a scary experience for the foot players that challenges them.

Hi all,

We have just published the following article to our news page on the website and encourage you to have a read!

Please feel free to leave any thoughts down below and we'll do our best to answer any questions.

Does this all include console horizons? As there isn't any information on it apart from the list that says horizons is getting stuff

Hopefully then, going forward as one version will allow for a more detailed focus on significant optimisations and improved graphics/textures etc; Yes?

Sally has promised answers to this and a few other questions later.
I absolutely assume this to be the case, but let's wait for an official word on this. 😁

But seeing as 3.8 will continue to stick around, today's news doesn't really change much at all. I'd even say the only change is that now Frontier are "brave" enough to use 4.0 for future (story-)content.

The player base will still be split since apparently a sizeable group still prefers 3.8's rendering and planetary generation system. Or struggle with 4.0's performance.
Frontier will still have to kind of maintain two code bases.

Oh, my quote was a bit misleading.

While I don't doubt to hear from Sally either, what I meant was I don't doubt Odyssey and Horizons 4.0 players will be able to instance together.
Me either - the bit about versions in the original post.
But, it is one of the questions being asked, so getting it from Sally (in her own inimical fashion) would carry more authority than any of us forumites responding, even if we were correct.

Well, they did announce, even before EDO released, that the clients would merge at some point in the future, it would seen that point rapidly approaches.
Exactly. And now they are trying to sell it as an upgrade they generously provide to people that don’t want to buy Oddity instead of what should have been the case over a year ago.

I hope she just says 'check it on Tuesday' - because expecting the CMs, or the patch notes, to be flawless is a fools errand- right now even the devs don't know what bugs are going to stick the landing.

While we will need to wait and see, I'm thinking that the post could mean that future narrative (and possibly CGs?) won't be possible on 3.8 because 4.0 will be required.
